So there's a DS game, Seiken Densetsu 4, and World of Mana all on the horizon?

Lets hope these two are more like Secret of Mana than Legend of Mana...

Nope.

Seiken Densetsu... 4? Boo, it was suppossed to be a trilogy. :(

Looks great though, but why is the platform still tba? It's obviously going to be a PS2 game.

Children of Mana looks nice too. I wonder if it'll be another "gaiden" game like Legend of Mana?

I can make out that it says nintendo ds in the upper section, but not what the platform is supposed to be for SD4. Maybe PC or "undecided"?

Awesome! It's about time we get to see what Square Enix has been up to with this franchise and about time we get to see some more of their DS efforts!

Children of Mana looks great (though a little bit too much like Sword of Mana graphically), and Seiken Densetsu IV looks incredible! What platform are you on?!?

Maybe SD4 is for both PS2 and PSP. As jarrod said, all signs point to it at least going PS2.

Pretty much. Square Enix tends to go with the "sure thing" anyway and PSP's confused market focus and high development costs have pretty much scared them away from general support. So far (since the merger)...

Game Boy Advance
-Final Fantasy Tactics Advance
-Dragon Quest Monsters: Caravan Heart
-Sword of Mana
-Slime Morimori! Dragon Quest: Daisensha to Shippodan
-Dragon Quest Characters: Toruneko no Daibouken 3 Advance
-Final Fantasy I&II: Dawn of Souls
-Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories
-Final Fantasy IV

Nintendo DS
-Hanjuku Eiyuu DS: Egg Monster Heroes
-Fullmetal Alchemist: Dual Symphony (Squeenix USA picked it up!)
-Slime Morimori 2! Dragon Quest: Daisensha to Shippodan
-Seiken Densetsu DS: Children of Mana
-Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles DS (online!)
-Final Fantasy III DS
-Dragon Quest Monsters DS

PSP
-Advent Children: Final Fantasy VII (UMD video)
-Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII

I hate all the "Go out and buy a -insert console-" posts that pop up...

I've already gone out and bought a DS, but that doesn't mean I don't want games on another platform.

Nah, they don't hate the PSP. It's just the fact that S/E doesn't want to have to create a market for their titles. They stay on the sidelines to see who the market leader is going to be, and then they make a commitment. DS all the way (in Japan, at least...and, well, S/E is a Japanese company)

Game's looking really good, btw. If this has single cart multiplayer it's going to own many a soul.

If they ported Final Fantasy 7, 8 or 9 or any of their high profile PSX games to PSP, the Japanese sales for PSP would fucking explode! Why can't they see this?

No, World of Mana is the overall PROJECT NAME. I believe both Children of Mana DS and SD4 fall under the "World of Mana" project which covers all media and platforms.

Square Enix isn't interested in doing direct ports for PSP though, those games would demand (resource intensive) remakes. They'll test the waters with Crisis Core (a high production value FF7 ARPG spinoff) which will likely lead to more PSP projects... but due to market performance and development costs, I just can't see PSP getting nearly as many SE releases as DS. It's going to get secondary support, like GameCube/Xbox 360/Revolution for consoles.

Nice, I really am crossing my fingers that these games will bring back respect for the Seiken series - Sword of Mana was a disappointment, and Legend of Mana was a fragmented-story, shallow, wussified abomination of a game. It gives me some hope that Brownie Brown isn't working on them (they do some lovely graphics but such shallow gameplay!)

I tend to agree. It has been rumored that a Mana game was in development for GC, but with Revolution on its way, I can see Square Enix moving it to Revolution.

That said, this title could just as easily release for any other platform. Call it a hunch, Nintendo's probably got the Mana franchise wrapped up.

Crisis Core is vapour ware. When was it announced? They keep showing the FFIV Last Order anime trailer for it (the anime movie that came with FF AC).

And the whole cost thing is BS. How do we know how much it costs to make games for PSP? And PSP might be struggling in Japan but it's doing fine in NA and Europe.

Seiken 4 should be released for both GC and PS2. Other than Zelda there isn't much left for GC so I imagine the Nintendo fanbase would instantly go for a title like this.

It'd be nice and it's likely what Nintendo should be doing, but I doubt it. I think had Nintendo tried to wrap up a few secondary franchises off Square Enix (SaGa, Seiken Densetsu, Star Ocean, etc) they'd have done quite a bit better than they did with a flawed, GBA dependant FF ARPG spinoff nobody really cares about.

Crisis Core isnt completely vaporware yet. The trailer was on the FFVIIAC DVD and its planned for 2006 after all.

Speaking of vaporware......

Crisis Core is coming no doubt, SCEI is likely prodding Square daily about it. PSP needs this game more than it needs GTA imo.

And console level budgets just don't translate well to the ultra casual, ultra cheap, ultra disposable handheld market. Especially it Japan it seems, where Square Enix still easily makes ~70% of their revenue.

Uh, we know because developers have already made games for it?

PSP dev costs are way more expensive than GBA/DS dev costs. It's hardly BS.
