Omega Boost (PS)

Team Buddies (PS)

Devil Dice (PS)

Team Buddies and Devil Dice look simple but they are hi-res (640*480) and run at 60 fps. They look pretty sexy in motion.

I have to give props to FFVIII, even to this day it impresses me at what they got out of Playstation, just do a summon and you know what I mean. I still pop it in from time to time and when I summoned Diablos for the first time in ages I thought, "WTF? That's PS1?!"

looking back, I think there are lot of unique looking games for that system. sometimes the blurry textures really add to the game, in my opinion (Hybrid Heaven, i loved that game). sort of how the gritty 32 bit textures of playstation add to Metal Gear Solid or Silent Hill's enviornments.

Tobal 2 on PSX still looks great, as does the original game.

Star Fox 64 still looks good to me also

Been looking for it but it's impossible to find it at a decent price.

Mario 64, Banjo-Kazooie, Conkers BFD, Zelda OoT, Zelda MM, Paper Mario; what didn't age well on N64 are games with realistic style in graphics. It looks ugly most of the time.

Pretty much all the 32-bit 3D games look like ass nowadays, some of the 2D stuff of that era like Skullmonkeys and Abe's Exoddus look fantastic though. 2D is timeless, I still think Pacman looks good.

For 3D, Tobal 2's about it really. Flat shaded, gourad shaded, high res and 60 fps polygons will probably always look good. :)

And I don't see any mention of

Sure it's a bit plain looking now (even a bit rough around the edges) but still good looking (and the soundtrack ... oh the soundtrack).

Add 2d game to the list

And also Raystorm, RayCrisis and Galactic Attack (all Layer Section games) to the list for games that don't look too bad now.

That shit is rare though. And I hate Viewtiful Joe. 2d being dead meaning, the graphic style, not just the gameplay style. I'd go for hi-res sprites anyday.

So would I (but sprites don't, necessarily, have to be hi-res), that's why I have a DS. But nowadays, beggars can't be choosers.

Though I ask, why isn't Mischief Makers a 2d game? Because characters are made of seperate limbs that rotate for their animation? Something else? I don't see it. The characters are clearly sprite based despite prerendered. Does that also mean the Donkey Kong Country games are also not 2d games?

I must be going brain dead, I'm SURE Mischief Makers was a 2D game.

Have I REALLY gone crazy?

Edit: Oh, I see what you're saying.

I was thinking sidescroller = 2D, in which case, it does not.

Oops.

Mischief Makers looks like a 3d game with 2d gameplay to me...it's like saying that the side scroller levels on Ratchet and Clank 3 are 2d simply because it's a side scroller platformer. Or Yoshi Story. Or Klonoa. It's called 2.5D.

When Ratchet and Clank are mainly 3d platforming? Regardless, if that's what you believe, I can't change your mind. And I never liked the '2.5D' term to begin with so I won't start with that.

Yeah, there was a side mini game in Ratchet and Clank 3 where you controlled a character oldschool platformer style.

I was question more of how can a few levels/minigame can make catagorise the rest of Ratchet and Clank as a 2d platformer when the base of the game is 3d. That's like saying the scant few instances of 2d ball rolling makes Metroid a 2d game, or even worse the switch from 3rd person ball mode back to Samus' helmet makes Prime a 3rd person adventure.

But *shrugs*

And both versions of Mario 64 look great. Arguement over. :p
