And that's why Origins is, after all the nostalgia hype dies down, a pretty mediocre show. First episode is promising, but it's all downhill from then on.

You're referring to Kanto Ash. I'm talking about Ash who actually became mentor-like in later parts of the anime.

Ash can't get into the finals, but notice how most of them are bullshit fights? Hell, it was outright batshit in Sinnoh where he fights a fucking Darkrai. And yet he defeated both (Darkrai and Latios). The only time his fights seemed legit were in Hoenn (Meowth in boots) and Unova (Lucario), and even then those fights were bullshit to the max. There's no goal to get E4 in the anime, and it's safe to say Ash can get there if he can get badges.

Hell, I'd argue Indigo Plateau Ash is skilled, managing to get to the finals with unevolved Pokemon save for a few.

Ash can and will trash Red, unless it involved a lot of bullshit.

I wish there was one more episode that chronicled reds training in mt silver and his fight with the gold and silver protagonist. That would be pretty awesome

I would rather have a Pokemon Origins like anime for G/S/C. Then in the end, it shows Gold beating Red.
