That was the gist of his column, his wife's circle was in conflict with his rather vivid descriptions of them. I still like his work though.Originally Posted by guitarhero

https://twitter.com/charltonbrooker/...68211284639744Got a date for the games show. I'll be explaining 'How Videogames Changed the World' on C4, Sat 30th Nov from 9pm.
Cool, hope they have special guest appearance from Internet Phenomenon KSIOriginally Posted by Hot Coldman
Matt Lees (GAF's own jam_sponge, and the man behind the PS4 Abridged videos) is the show's main writer.
Ergo, this is probably going to be wonderfully daft.

I hate that Dara o'brain and Jonathan Ross are always associated with games in the mainstream media. Both of them come across in interviews as such casuals I doubt they have ever done more than read the blurb on the back of a few boxes.
Lara over Samus/Chun-Li? I won't dispute that Lara Croft ended up bigger, but Samus was Master Chief before Master Chief existed and look at Chun-Li.Moving through to the booming nineties we will be looking at video games’ first credible female character, digital cover girl and tawdry teenage boy fantasy – Tomb Raider’s Lara Croft.
Watch some News Wipe, especially the ones about the American Media. You'll respect him after that.Originally Posted by OniBarubary

Video games are a part of culture for a decent portion of the world. Just like music, film, books, etc - are you going to suggest they haven't changed the world, either? Of course, video games haven't made the same impact - but entertainment is part of culture, and video games are entertainment for a significant population.Originally Posted by Shanks D Zoro

I feel for Brooker in that clip. It's like trying to get my parents in to videogames, they get impatient and fail to see the point. Perhaps they're right! But no :)http://www.channel4.com/news/charlie...ystation-video

With these and the PS4 i'll be sorted for the weekend. This documentary uses three games (Fez, Meat Boy and Braid), each at a different stage of development, to explore the pressures and rewards for independent game designers.
Forget this Saturday show, I'd just watch a series of Charlie teaching Jon Snow about video games. I was pretty much laughing non-stop when they started playing Lego Marvel.http://www.channel4.com/news/charlie...ystation-video

I remember Jonathan Ross saying one of his favorite Mario games is Paper Mario, so I've always had a bit of respect for that. He probably used to really be into video games, but as he got older and more busy kinda lost touch. I'm sure Dara o'briain is a casual.Originally Posted by Indrid Cold1

I really like how he explained how videogames can get a point across in ways that other media cannot. Specially with Papers, Please.http://www.channel4.com/news/charlie...ystation-video

I feel like he could have talked about Folding Home in PS3 and games like Journey, but I'm very confident he is going to do great with his show.
I think that - if you're like me, and have always felt angry at the lack of cultural respect/understanding games have had - you'll really enjoy the show. It's still made for a very much traditional TV audience, so don't expect super in-depth stuff, but I'm hoping it'll be a good way of explaining why our hobby is so wide & fascinating.Originally Posted by Juan29.zapata

I should clarify again, though - it's a documentary rather than a comedy thing. Expect comedy (because Brooker's hilarious) but I wouldn't go into this expecting anything vaguely like my Abridged vids. They hired me for my cultural knowledge about games rather than the daft lols, but yeah - hopefully you guys will like it!
I love this attitude. "Pff these guys just play farmville they don't understand the video games the same way I understand them. I bet they haven't even finished Dark Souls."Originally Posted by Indrid Cold1

Games as an interest has to be 0% or 100% investment. I think having a career like those two do you would be hard pressed to find 5 minutes to play games.

With his documentary, How Video Games Changed the World, screening on Saturday, we talk to the writer, broadcaster and veteran gamer about the challenge of making TV about games
" O.ountil I figured out the old guy is called Jon snow
More people should read this interview, it's brilliant. Matt Lees, Don Blyth, Cara Ellison, all damn cool people. The whole thing is full of choice quotes, so read it all. The bit about old TV media not being able to get around the language of games, was enlightening.
