I bought a Wii U but that has nothing to do with this thread. Its annoying and so is the singstar one. They shouldn't be on there.Let them. It's in the apps/services tab which makes it completely relevant.
If it really bothers people they could get another console. Vote with your wallets people. Buy the Wii U.
Why even post in the thread if your just gonna shit it up?For media apps on the media tab. Don't give a shit.
How about get off of my XMB.
Well, we've had ads placed in the playstation 3 store before so it wasn't really invasive. Though this isn't really an ad, it's more like bloatware because I believe the latest update put the program on the machine.Massive picture is massive.
So is this the first case of ads on PS3? I don't own one yet, so I wouldn't know.
sorry, forgot my s3 took such big pics lol.
Its not bloatware because the app isn't actually downloaded on the console. Its just and ad for the app.Originally Posted by ChiliManiac
Yup, it's real. I believe it happened with the last update. So instead of doing ads it seems Sony is forcing bloatware down our throats....I'll see if I can post a pic for you all.
Fuck this thing, seriously. Every time I switch on my PS3, there it is.Originally Posted by Derpcrawler
For those who wondering about PAL SingStar ad:
You can't delete it, it's fullscreen and XMB boots into it all the time when powering on console. You can't even hide it, i.e. it doesn't go to any folder.
Nice to know somebody can pay to change the PS4 background, even if it isn't the owner of the console.Originally Posted by Derpcrawler

Of course i do... it's the number one gaming device used to watch Netflix in the U.S, my point was that if you're gonna use Netflix... then catching a glimpse of some random icon while selecting the Netflix app shouldn't be that big of an offense...Originally Posted by ChiliManiac
Do you know how many people use Netflix on their PS3? LOL :D
Haha, I know. I was being sarcastic in the last comment. Though if it's a preview of things to come we should at least be aware.Originally Posted by eddfromtheriver

So I assume you spend a lot of time in the aps/services tab for it to be annoying, huh?Originally Posted by Vane_MagicCity
Right in the games tab, that's really ugly.
Well, when it was just Netflix it was one little ad and then they added Amazon and it became 2 little ads and now they have added Redbox so it's three little ads.
Guess what happens next, especially if only a few complain.
Yeah, that bears repeating: after forcing the app down our throats, SCEE were absolute assholes about it.Originally Posted by Derpcrawler
Oh, people hammered PS EU Blog for months, only thing they got was bans/comments delete and snarky remarks by SingStar community manager varying from "It won't go away" to "Deal with it". But if same thing would happen in U.S., Sony would back out on 2nd day of this BS. In EU they are as arrogant as always, because they know EU is in their pocket. That's my main concern, if PS4 will dominate again worldwide I am afraid we will see arrogant Sony again.
Press Square?I am more concerned about the games tab. If you take advantage of ps+ you can easily have over a hundred games to scroll through, every single dl of a pinball arcade vita table is another icon to scroll past. Is there some way of organizing games into sub folders?
I want to murder the ones who green lighted this (ok i exaggerate). I have never bought anything related to that game and will not, out of pure principle, buy anything related or connected to it. Showing things down someones throat is not the way to go.Go check out Singstar on the european PS3.

All tabs in the game section are full screen when highlighted.
My PS3 doesn't boot to this screen either.
So many little things irrationally annoy people , can you imagine if the controller had a light on top ? :)
Sony announced they were going to use Playready in March of 2011 and Playready 1.0 was released Sept 2013 then we get a firmware update and on Oct 29th a Verizon Red Box APP shows up on the XMB.
With Playready, Microsoft is in charge of security and can revoke features when you are on-line if they detect that Playready has been hacked. Playready is also the DRM of choice for most CE companies (TVs, Blu-ray players, Tablets, Phones) and Cable operators for the DTCP-IP DRM being used with DLNA-RVU mandated by the FCC for June 2014.
I think Sony has been waiting on this and is the reason we haven't seen an update to the PS3's HTML5 <video> and DLNA; both will now be rewritten to use Playready. This I believe requires the entire PS3 OS to be reviewed and many routines rewritten to comply with Playready DRM. That the Verizon app is 30 megs in size would imply that most or all the Playready DRM is in the APP and little is using the PS3 software stack.

I buy mostly digital. Plus disc keep spinning whenever you a launch ANY app or game.Originally Posted by Metalmurphy

It highlights this ad by default. I can't believe people trying to justify such practices, it's unacceptable since you don't get this crappy deal in US. And the way Sony handled it was old style super arrogant Sony. Insert disc, opt in for "What's new". How about they give a fucking option to hide it.All tabs in the game section are full screen when highlighted.

I agree, being presented by a fullscreen Singstar ad everytime you turn your console on is unacceptable no matter how people try to spin it. You don't even have to be signed in to the PSN it's always there so nobody can say it's okay because you get ads on a free service, I'm not even using the service and I'm getting ads.Originally Posted by Derpcrawler

Has it been established how people are getting the Redbox app installed by force? Is it PS+ or are people clicking the Free Month ad or something?
I'm located in South Korea. I have a US purchased PS3 and a US PSN account. My PS3 is hooked up to my VPN router with a US IP address. Aside from my time zone settings, there's no reason the PS3 shouldn't think I was in the US. I have System Software version 4.50. I'm not PS+ right now. So... I don't know what criteria they're using to determine who gets this.
I still have the option to delete any of the services and I recall installing Crunchyroll once and then deleting it with no problem. So I don't know what's up with the person who couldn't delete Amazon Instant Video.
