I do enjoy living vicariously through other gaffers' experiences with the system.
Snake in the grass I tell you.
And the system eats these things without you even pushing a slightest of a 1/100 of an inch of your muscles!
I am so blown away right now and I apologize for the gushing bullshit.
They use rounded edges. They're magical. I believe the PS4 is the same. The disc edges are like fucking butter smooth. What is this?

Im about to start it up. I went and updated both NL and 101 before I started anything. I also tested out Megaman X on Off Tv and it was fucking amazing. The controls feel great.Good to know that the Nintendo Hardware Seal of Quality is still in place =3
now can you give us some impressions on NintendoLand ? =D
101's simple intro to the start screen put a huge grin on my face.
Your job is done here.Well I bit the bullet and went ahead and picked up the Nintendoland Deluxe on my break along with The Wonderful 101. Kamiya's lovechild and Mario 3D World sent me over the edge, plus I havent seen many deals (Black Friday or otherwise) so I said fuck it.
Before anyone asks, I didn't pick up the Mario/Luigi U bundle because I didn't want a Mario overdose before next Friday. Plus, I look forward to getting used to the gamepad via Nintendoland (which you all said was pretty cool anyway).
I already have a wiimote+, chuk and original pro controller at home. But I do have a couple of questions before I dive in:
- Should I expect a 45 minute - 60 minute update as soon as I turn it on?
- Is there a noticeable visual difference with OG Wii games since they're running through an HDMI? I have a decent library of great titles that'd I'd love to see cleaned up a bit (Twilight Princess comes to mind)
- How does transferring my Wii VC games to the Wii U work? How does that $1.50 charge occur? I have Super Metroid and Super Castlevania 4 on my Wii. Will the U know that I purchased them already or something? I'm guessing I'm not going to be able to transfer over titles like Chrono, DKC or FFIII?
edit: oh almost forgot about miivese, had alot of fun on there. And I love the option to video call friends
I don't have a TV right now, though I do have a PC monitor that I could hook up to the system - but really, the 'handheld' experience seems really appealing to me, playing in bed, etc.
How feasible is it to play the Wii U almost exclusively on the gamepad (I'll be getting a new TV in a few months) and what games work best for that style of play?
I tried Wonderful 101 at the store the other day, and while the action was a bit cramped on the gamepad, I think I could get used to it.
Do some games have features that I won't be able to access if I play only on the gamepad?
I'm specifically curious about Wind Waker, NSMBU, SM3DW, Wonderful 101, Batman, and Pikmin 3.
It's certainly possible with a majority of games. I think ZombiU and Nintendoland are the only ones that really require both screens. Can anyone advise on playing solely on the gamepad?

The only ones I can think of that can't are ZombiU and Lego City.
Honestly, the off TV play works wonderfully well. Though with W101 it can be a bit hectic at times to play on the gamepad.
Wind Waker, NSMBU, Wonderful 101 and Pikmin 3 I know can all work exclusively on the Gamepad, if that's how you want to roll. I think SM3DW was confirmed to support the whole game in off-screen too. Don't know anything about Batman.I'm specifically curious about Wind Waker, NSMBU, SM3DW, Wonderful 101, Batman, and Pikmin 3.
Also I haven't played any Wii games on the system, I might pop one in and see how it looks/sounds with HDMI (my Wii was always hooked up with composite cables LOL)
Welcome to enlightenment, the Wii U kicks fucking ass. I'm going back to it and Deus Ex Director's Cut as soon as Killzone is finished. The disc edges are like fucking butter smooth. What is this?

The pointer's sensitivity feels like it was made for the Wii Remote + Nunchuck setup. It's my preferred way to play. The gamepad's perfectly acceptable though and I have no issues using it if I go off-tv.Originally Posted by illadelph
I figure I might as well ask in here.....I just got Pikmin 3, what is the best controller to use for the game?

How does everyone feel about the Pro Controller? Not for Pikmin 3, but in general? Is it worth the purchase?

It has its flaws (a good Kotaku review for the thing outlines them), and it doesn't work as a Wii U Pro Pad, but they're pretty cheap now ($20 used on Amazon as of writing), and I've really enjoyed playing Mario 64 and Link to the Past with it in Wii Mode on Virtual Console.
I'm kinda looking forward to playing Sonic Colors for the first time with it, too.
*passes out*
Batman needs a TV in order to access off-tv mode. Stupid I know. The devs included the off-tv function in a menu that is only visible on the TV.
I'm specifically curious about Wind Waker, NSMBU, SM3DW, Wonderful 101, Batman, and Pikmin 3.
I personally wouldn't play it off-TV anyway - once you get used to the convenience of having a map right there on the Gamepad which means you don't have to keep pausing the game and going to the map screen, you'll never want to play it any other way.
And somehow surprisingly despite it being a third party controller, the plastic feels as legitimate as the original SNES controller. The only flaw beyond copious syncing issues is the triggers, which are just buttons, not analog sticks.Originally Posted by illadelph
that controller looks cool as shit
Yup. So far, the announced lineup is looking pretty amazing for me.Originally Posted by Colonel Mustard

What? This thread? Im just being honest man. I never once gave this system the time of day last year (obviously).Originally Posted by Linkhero1

This is just simply incredible. To me =D
It's like I just unwrapped my first NES all over again.
And I totally get the Cube references. God what a great system.
I think that's how a lot of people feel. I didn't care until they had a limited edition zelda console. If it weren't for that, I wouldn't have even bought mine for a while but I was pleasantly surprised and very glad that I did. I'm loving my system so far. What? This thread? Im just being honest man. I feel the same. It's like I just unwrapped my first NES all over again.
I actually bought the Wii U at launch, but kept it sealed for a week to see the first impressions and figure out what games were coming. When it seemed there was literally only one game of interest, I returned the system. I completely ignored it until about a month ago when I first read about 3D World and Wind Waker. I then started checking into other games and was sold on the system rather quickly.
These past couple weeks have been great. It's rekindled my interest in modern gaming. I've discovered that it wasn't modern gaming in general I disliked, just particular games. I even bought a new and bigger TV so I could be more immersed in NSMBU.
They look the same to me.seriously? i have about six wii games unopened i've been meaning to get to. i'll probably get around to playing them sometime next year.
Useful if your TV has a poor scaler, though.
Yea, it feels like a true successor.Originally Posted by Colonel Mustard

Its great yet it still has a combination of hard core and casual titles
All it needs is a better VC
It's amazing that the people who constantly crap on Wii U have never actually messed with one.
