December 9th 2013. Now we will have every character from Brawl + Mewtwo and Roy, tons of new costumes, new modes, new stages, and other goodies. Can't wait!

Super excited for this, Samus is looking amazing.

Also what was going on at the end there? Was Falco canceling upsmashes into reflector?

That was an incredibly hype trailer. I'm going to be out of town that day so I'll miss the release day unfortunately.

Project M 3.0 is already the best for trying to do something with poor Samus. How she isn't a MVC3 Dante jack of all trade with obnoxious screen control is beyond me given how much firepower and (as per the only good thing to come from Other M) how many different aggressive grapples/strikes she's capable of.

Wow, the small additions like Kirby's up-b going horizontal and Samus changing beams has me really interested. Time to play Project M again.

Wow. Absolutely stunning. The things they've been able to do with Brawl are just miraculous. I still love the base version of that game, but Project M is just fantastic.

Project M is so amazing and 3.0 looks to continue that trend. Shoutouts to the team for doing such an awesome thing for the smash community.

Hopefully Smash 4 modding is possible one day. It would be nice to see it get a PM version if it turns out to be as bad as Brawl.

I played Project M at a friend's house and I hated it, it turned Smash Bros into some tournament obsessed game which goes against the whole point of the series. I did however appreciate some of the changes it brought with it such as the increased speed, Melee physics and the removal of tripping. With that said, Samus does look pretty hype in Project M 3.0.

I played it with my casual friends and they love it, I don't see how they can hate it..... removing tripping already makes it better than vanilla Brawl.

I'm curious, besides the bolded, how else did they turn it into a tournament obsessed game? Still seems like a fun party game to me.

Uh, the whole point of the series is to fight and win. It is a fighting game after all. If people want to hold tournaments to prove their skill why is that a bad thing?

Not this again... People play games the way they want to. There's no reason to be tied by a developer's alleged intent.

SAMUS AND OLIMAR FINALLY

It felt really weird playing Project M without being able to use either of my two mains from Melee and Brawl. Samus looks properly unruined so hopefully I'll be satisfied.

She was already this in Melee before Brawl went and promptly ruined her, so hopefully things are at least back to status quo!

This just makes me wish Smash 4 has some community feedback in it's design process, even if it's just location testing like any other fighting game. I know we tend to keep "developer's intention" sacred but these guys seem to have some good ideas too.

Also, an AMA is going on with one of the members of the team, if you have any questions that would be a good place to ask whatever you want to know.

And a newspost of the trailer (not that it's anything important as the trailer is what matters, but there you go, haha).

Yes, a solid 41 characters -- though there's still a potential few more slots left the team certainly wants to fill up.

I unfortunately had a rare launch Wii that had problems playing Brawl. My Wii eventually just stopped reading the disc, just Brawl in particular, so I sold my copy to a friend. I may have to repurchase it though now that I have a Wii U, this looks amazing.

I would just like to point out that the varied ideas of how to have fun with Smash have never been mutually exclusive. This mod might be a nod to competitive players and those who enjoyed the faster pace and depth of Melee but it is also about as imposing to new players and about as prohibitive toward lighter hearted matches as Melee was, which is to say "not at all" (and competitive players play for fun too, meaning that they don't take every match they've ever played all super serious like!). And if nothing else, Project M goes a long way in breathing new life into an aging game, offering up a lot more than you'd expect from what some detractors like to consider some sort of regression or grasp-at-the-past. New features, gameplay depth that does not detract from the accessible and fun nature of Smash, absolute shit tons of clever little throwbacks and references to older games that help to solidify and breathe even more personality into each character, new stages, old stages with new functionality, custom skin and music support, etc. etc. It's pretty much all around awesome

This is my fear.

I hope the smash 4 dev team is taking a few notes here and there.

They should come up with new and fun mechanics, certainly. But they also need to realize that removing the good stuff from Melee for the sake of a lower ceiling & barrier of entry for Brawl was not the right thing to do. Made Brawl a slogging chore to play.

Excellent work PMBR.
