Had some ASDA money off vouchers so decided to put it towards an eShop card for ALBW.
Entered the card onto my 3DS and got an invalid code error 005-5838.
Took the card back to ASDA, they said nothing they could do and to get in touch with Nintendo.
Got in touch with Nintendo - they said the card was not activated by ASDA and to take it back for a refund. ASDA are refusing to do so.
Help me GAF - you're my last hope, what do I do??!!
But don't swear or go overboard.
1. receipt for the cash amount and purchase of the card;
2. the activation successful receipt which has a bunch of *s and the last few digits of the card I bought.
I only got one receipt - I've bought itunes cards from ASDA and only got one receipt for that too.Originally Posted by wackojackosnose

I agree with you though, you do normally get two receipts.
Joking aside, I hope you get this problem resolved.
Now I know ASDA is a Walmart company and all but I don't think they care about the Better Business Bureau considering they are in the UK (we're not the 51 state yet...)Originally Posted by wsoxfan1214
Mention the BBB and ask to talk to a manager and such. Always works.
Yeah, that's my experience with buying eshop cards from GAME - 2 receipts always. Even when I buy them via the online store, they send me the physical activation receipt along with the card.I only got one receipt - I've bought itunes cards from ASDA and only got one receipt for that too.

Ah, if you only got the one receipt then it sonds like this is asda's fault.I only got one receipt - I've bought itunes cards from ASDA and only got one receipt for that too.

Did they not even try and scan the card again? I'd ask to speak with a manager.
It felt like it the way they were acting.Originally Posted by Starwolf_UK
So in other words OP is the first person to ever buy a prepaid eShop card from ASDA...
Supervisor tried to scan it again a few times - nothing happened. She called her manager who told her that I had to take it up with Nintendo. I was in a rush as I was on my way to work - gonna go back at lunch and harass them again.Originally Posted by Sir_Crocodile

Worse comes to worse call nintendo while at the store and have them talk it out.It felt like it the way they were acting.

Hmm well is there a way to bring up a list of what cards have been activated on 3DS?Also not gonna happen.
Was on hold for 50 minutes before I got through the first time (at least you get the Zelda Lost Woods theme whilst you are on hold to Nintendo).
That way you can show that the amount on that card hasn't been activated? It's small but all I can think of. But yeah like most said you'll more than likely just have to make a polite ruckus for a bit.
Not sure if there is but I'll have a root around, cheers. I can sort of see ASDAs point on this one - I don't have any proof that I haven't redeemed the card already and am not trying to scam them.Originally Posted by Jawmuncher

Basically Nintendo error codes suck, they are poorly documented and sometimes the same code means multiple things. If the code clearly meant "valid code but is not active" ASDA would not have a leg to stand on.
Yeah I did the same googling as you - server busy seemed to be the main culprit. Have tried it countless times over the last few days though.Originally Posted by Starwolf_UK
Having a google it seems that the error code can also show up when the server is busy too it is not a universal "valid code but is not active".

The email from Nintendo support completely contradicts this though -
"The error code you got tells us that the activation of the card at the point of sale did not properly succeed. Please take your Nintendo eShop card and your proof of purchase and return to your retailer and ask for support. Your retailer may also be able to eventually exchange the card with a new one.
Nintendo eShop cards cannot be used until they have been activated which takes place the moment you buy them directly at your retailer. Your retailer can check in more detail where the actual issue is located and can assist you further.
Nintendo eShop cards are not produced or distributed by Nintendo of Europe. These cards are branded gift vouchers that can be used on the Wii Shop Channel, Nintendo DSi Shop and Nintendo eShop.
We are sorry we cannot be of direct assistance on this occasion, however we hope this goes some way to assisting you in resolving your enquiry."
Not sure who is being more useless at this point.
Buyer beware to anyone thinking of getting eShop cards!
I want to know if this went anywhere or if OP is still out of pocket because Asda don't know how to activate eShop cards and the eShop is useless in giving error messages.
