Why not make a campaign DLC package as part of BF4 with the old crew?
That's because the maps were built to be small and centered around Rush development. Conquest was an afterthought and the lack of multiple CPs really hindered the gameplay compared to previous BFs. IIRC the largest Conquest map had a laughable 4 CPS.The Rush never felt small in BC2, that's the difference. It's still felt like large-scale warfare, only that you are progressing forward through the objectives. Rush felt just as big as Conquest. In BF3 and BF4, the maps in Rush have shrunk down way too much.
That bums me the heck out. I'm still glad DICE made it, and I got my goofier version of Three Kings, the video game.
It's funny. I was a HUGE fan of BF1942. I put countless hours into it. It's easily in my top 5 shooters of all-time. Yet, I have not enjoyed a BF game since then nearly as much as I do the Bad Company spinoffs. I guess I'm just weird in that regard.
As a Battlefield fan who's played every game on Day 1 (well except the crappy Battlefield 2 Modern Combat garbage), starting at the BF1942 Wake Island Demo, The Bad Company games are my favorite.
Two of the best, 1943 and BC1 never made it to PC, which is a huge disappointment, but overall, BC1 and 2 seemed to be the two games that were simply designed with lighthearted fun at the core of both the MP and SP games.
I could barely stay awake through the BF3 and BF4 campaigns, i must have made it an hour or so into each - generic garbage.

Blinded by the luminous glory that is David Bowie's physical manifestation.

Who cares about the humor. The GAMEPLAY is what mattered. BC2 is still the best Battlefield by a good green country mile from them in the past five or six years simply because of the gameplay.
I want more of that. Less BF3/BF4's terrible map design.

That sucks! I can actually remember things that happened during the SP of both Bad Company games. Battlefield 3's SP was just like all the other modern shooters out there...all mixed together vanilla save the world from some madman crap.
BC 1&2 were both awesome they introduced me into the Battlefield series really, would love to see a third game.
doesn't that only apply to the sp campaign tho? why does DICE keep pretending that the campaign is a relevant part of BF? why do they keep pushing this shit and now forcing us to play the campaign if we want all weapons in the mp? fucking dice man.
I preferred Battlefield when it was 1942 and Battlefield 2. The map design has gotten worse since Bad Company 2, but then again it was a spin-off.
Such a shame personally feel BC2 was the best battlefield to date by quite some way, both single and multi-player guess I will never get the sequel I always hoped for.
Fuck this! I want MORE humor in shooters.
After I mow down a horde of enemies with an absurdly unreal amount of bullets, I want my character to make some cliched 80's esque one liner and proceed to destroy more things.
Please don't hurt me I haven't played BC 1 or 2 yet.

And that is why fuck focus testing.
I've had a lot more fun playing Bad Company 2 than either Battlefield 3 or 4 (not 2 though). Sad if I never get a Bad Company 3, it's the Battlefield game I'm waiting for.
Why must the masses ruin everything for everyone ?! There's literally a gaggle of "hard boiled campaign" fps out there. Not Bad Company... not bad company...
As someone who loved Bad Company 2, Battlefield 3 is one of my biggest disappointments on last gen. I hated it so much that I'm not touching BF4 even if it were free on Plus.
Blandness for the masses confirmed.
Can anyone step up and actually embrace targeting a certain demographic?

Yep. BC2 had a real sense of focus in its maps since they were built around Rush, which gave naturalistic battles from one side to another instead of the mess you get in BF3. Basically in BC2 I felt like each side had a front, and you were fighting alongside your teammates, pushing into enemy territory or retreating to set up defenses. In BF3 you wander around aimlessly and get shot from anywhere.Who cares about the humor. The GAMEPLAY is what mattered. BC2 is still the best Battlefield by a good green country mile from them in the past five or six years simply because of the gameplay.

I'm upset they listened to those people and not to me.
Bad Company 1 had by far the best Battlefield campaign of the generation.

Pretty sure that, if maturity sold, Spec Ops would have outsold CoD and BF.
Just goes to show EA/Dice is out of touch with what the people want. We don't want Madden but they keep renewing the license. BF4 is completely broken, haven't been able to play all week.
Bad Company 1 and 2 was great. Easily two of my fondest gaming experiences that I can remember. Now it sounds like we aren't getting a third and if we do, Dice will probably pull a 180 and change it up ruining the franchise.

While that is true, it probably didn't help that Bad Company humor consisted of taking potshots at Call of Duty."But it is true that for some reason if you want to make a game for the masses, you need to be more neutral when it comes to things like humour, because humour is very personal. Some people love it, some people hate it."

With stuff like the Batman/Skyrim marketing discussion, this and Gears needing to be grittier, it feels like the AAA gaming is rushing headlong into 90s xxxtreme comics territory. Wonder how long it'll take before ultimatum happens and the resulting contraction.
Even if this were true that doesn't mean that Battlefield campaigns have to be shit. You can have a more serious story and characters and still use Bad Company 1's fantastic open level design.
I remember when DICE made the best shooters on the market.
Now look what we've got.
Now look what we've got.
I loved Bad Company but not because of the characters or humor, but because of the multiplayer design.

I really enjoyed Bad Company and it's humor. The masses just didn't get it.
bf3 campaign was garbage, forgettable nonsense
did their focus group really like that shit better?...

Reading some of you it's as if bad company 2 campaign was soooo much better than what we have now :rolleyes
I don't think I've ever seen anyone say that BF3 or BF4 had better campaigns than BFBC2. Or the last Medal of Honor, while we're at it. Not that any of those are high bars, but there you go.
Really though, what they should be looking at is BC2's multiplayer, because it was superior to BF3's in pretty much every way. Who gives a damn about campaigns in Battlefield?

Needs more focus testing.
So looks like I'm never going to buy Battlefield again? Thanks DICE/EA
Dudebros need it to be extra serious macho, bro. They can't show weakness via humor or emotions or some other dudebro might think they are a pussy.
AAA devs need to be allowed to make smaller games without the pressure to hit a 10 gazillion sales target, like Ubi allowed the Far Cry team to go nuts with Blood Dragon. It really just makes sense for everyone.
Another observation : Your singleplayer campaign is making battlefield too shit.
Everytime someone tries to tell me that DICE has any sort of artistic vision for their games I'd just love to slap them across the face*... they might've had that at some point, but it's painting by numbers and follow the sales leader ever since BFBC2. BF3 in particular made me cringe with all the anal intercourse fixation in it's retarded voice acting.
And I'm not just talking Single Player. That is a whole other can of worms.
*or a boot to the groin

i didn't want to press start when that looped loading a game in mp!
YES.
The whole "society only wants grounded stories that play at realism" thing is getting really, really problematic.
Copying COD doesn't do you any favor either, Dice.
I get nostalgies every time it's played on This American Life.
Big suprise. With the kind of numbers those games sell you know they are being bought by an awful lot of idiots. Law of averages. CoD games have also gotten aggressively stupid, angry and jingoistic. Because that clearly appeals to the bovine masses.
Bad Company 2 was the last time I legitimately enjoyed Rush.
