I do have two monitors, but honestly, my new 27" is plenty big enough to do side-by-side multitasking, which is awesome because I do a lot of that. I'd rather do this than have a 2nd monitor working my GPU all the time.
I've had dual monitors for 5-6 years now. It always feels so restrictive when I have to use a computer that only has one screen. It's so much nicer being able to spread out windows and have everything up at once. I use my second screen mostly for media and messaging stuff.
I kinda want to have a second monitor set up vertically for pinball, Ikaruga and web browsing. I think this will be an important moment in my life when it happens.
I have dual 24", but I always feel kind of guilty when I'm only really using one, and the other is only showing my desktop image and wasting energy. So often I turn the 2nd one off.
I just hooked up an older 1680x1050 22" monitor to my rig to compliment my 23.5" 1080p one. It's perfect for monitoring my own streams of WoW and Hearthstone, and I can't go back to single-screen computing.
Dual monitors certainly are amazing. Just so much more productive and versatile.
Multiple monitors really are quite nice to have. Aye "alt-tab" and the equivalent does work obviously, but having more space to use is simply more effective and visually pleasing.
I've since switched to three monitors with a digital photo frame serving as a mini-monitor. The largest for graphic art programs, digital photo frame usually for pull of menus (Photoshop layers, swatches, etc. for an example) , a second monitor for reference photos, with the third for guides or information.
All handy to have ready whenever I want to glance at them. not needed, but a nice luxury that didn't actually cost me much to set up.
Outside of work, I really don't use anything other than two monitors. In which case the third monitor and the digital photo frame simply serve to highly something visually pleasing, can be powered down, or can be turned around so that someone else can watch Hulu or a youtube clip and the like.

Ever since I first went dual, I cannot go single monitor ever again. Productivity is through the roof. I made sure even my workplace knows what's up.
Dual monitors? That's nothing.
Quad Monitors are where it's at!
(Yes, it's probably overkill, but hey, I didn't pay for them nor am I complaining.)

I use a laptop. It's ghetto as hell, but it does the job.
Whenever I'm just on my laptop I struggle with the limited screen real estate.
I love using my external monitor as my primary screen for browsing and whatnot, and the laptop screen for video or other secondary things.

That's how I'm basically using it right now:

Browser on the large 22" screen and on the left the 15" laptop screen with winamp, taskbar, time (it's the main clock that I use, I don't have a physical clock on my wall or anything), calendar etc.
Also comes in very handy when I'm studying and have multiple pdf and word files open or just want to open a second browser window.

Netflix all day, browse/game on the other.
just spent the night playing some BF4 TDM (gotta unlock stuff) on my main 1080p 120 Hz monitor with the Giantbomb twitch stream on my secondary 1680*1050
for gaming a triple (120 Hz) portrait setup would be awesome, but I like dual landscape or landscape+portrait better for productivity/surfing
using Ultramon to quickly enable/disable the secondary monitor, works great with W8.1 as well

I have my laptop sitting alongside. Other computer > two monitors.
Had this discussion with my brother in May, when I was considering making a computer. I opted to stick with my laptop for a litttle while longer, and bought myself a 27" Dell monitor. I really like the size, and I can snap two windows side by side and still have enough real estate to use both programs easily.
I guess for programs you that need to be full screen, dual monitors come in handy. The problem I have with them is that I usually focus my attention on one of the monitors, and each monitor size is less than my 27" (although probably more when put together). As well, your going to have to move your head / neck to use both monitors efficiently, and I rather just keep my head in one position.
In my situation, one monitor works well for me. Although I guess two 27" monitors would shit on my theory pretty quickly.

Love mine, makes everything so much faster. Sorry, but alt-tab doesn't come close when I have multiple documents open and referring to them while writing. For recording in Reaper, I don't think I could even use it on a single monitor anymore lol.
I'm thinking of getting a 27" to throw in the middle and have my 24"s vertical on each side, vertical looks like it'd be great for reading stuff.

While we're at it: my second screen doesn't display in full screen: I've set it t 1280x720 which is the max resolution for this tv but the borders of the actual image screen aren't scaled to 720 even though I've set it to 720 [I know, right].
So basically I can't see task bar, browser close buttons, tabs and stuff like that. Is there any way to fix this?

I've been dualscreening for a few years now, thinking of getting a third. Who here rocks 3? Worth it?
I use duals at work and really like it and want to add a 24" to my at home rig for the convenience!
I've been using two monitors for years. I've recently went to three 24 inch identical monitors for some 5760x1080p gaming. I ran into the same problem with only having one monitor for gaming and none for the other stuff. So I used one of my older monitors for a fourth supplemental so I can have videos, TV, maps, etc up. The resolution is so massive with all of my monitors that I have to use the Hong Kong Skyline on Wikipedia for my desktop, lol.
I have a 32" HDTV and a 15" (5:4) monitor next to each other. However, I usually only use one screen at the time.
So I'm fixing to go down the road of having a proper second speaker. Anything I need to know before I invest? Cords I might need?
I've got an X51 but it only has an HDMI cord oddly enough. It's got a DVI and I've got a DVI to HDMI I can use though, but sound might be an issue since I'm using speakers instead of the monitor's native sound. Is there a good 'guide' on how to set this all up in windows 8?

I'm so addicted to dual monitors that I've considered... 3.. The second one almost made browsing the internet 5X more enjoyable.
3 is even better.
Dual monitors are great until you start trying to run stuff fullscreen in one screen. Then you'll realize it's actually a great way to consistently produce BSoDs.
It's not the same thing. You can use window layouts to augment your memory. Systems like "Reference materials go on the right. Work goes on the left." are actually helpful. You guys have never heard of Alt-Tab?
There's a big difference between a stack of information and a spread of information. The spacial positioning the later provides is actually quite valuable.
I don't know what I'd do without my multiple monitors now.
I've got my Macbook Pro's 1280x800 screen and a 1080p monitor hooked up to it and assigned as primary. I've pretty much always got something going on Twitch or VLC on the smaller screen, then normal browsing and work gets done on the main screen.
I've only got one monitor at work, but it's fine because I'm not really supposed to be watching videos there anyway.

I love dual monitors. I have my main monitor and a cheap ancient monitor as my secondary display. On my secondary display I have skype, steam and CPU temp monitor and task bar, main screen is for games/web browsing. Main display is also used for PS4/PS3 games.
I need a new desk though, my current one is falling apart and is not suited for a dual monitor setup.

I wanted to go triple screen for sims, but I decided I'll probably just get an OR when it releases instead.
Might go dual monitor one day but I don't have the money or desk space right now for some nice, thin-bezel monitors.

The more the merrier, I find it frustrating trying to work without at least two screens.
I want to do dual monitors, but vertically. I have a 25" and 23", would put the 23" on top. But wth is up with the price of vertical monitor mounts/stands? They seem a lot more expensive than side by side....
I'm looking into getting one soon. can't day trade while constantly sifting through charts and shit
But isn't it annoying having the side monitor display a stream/show with sound coming from the front speakers.
been using dual monitors for over two years. love it.
Used to rock multiple monitors until I just grabbed a large 30" monitor and now can't go back to less than 30. Used my 24" in portrait for a while but didn't really need it there.
you are doing it wrong if you don't have at least two monitors
For work they are nice. For home leisure they are distracting. Much better to fully utilize the space of a large monitor with high resolutions and window sizing, that way you can keep your attention centered.
Yeah can't live without it.
How's that RAT mouse? May get one in the future.Originally Posted by pikachu Lv 5

Edit:
Well, there's dual and triple monitors...
And then there's this.
