Fàbregas completes his objective

It was expected that Cesc Fàbregas would look to pick up the yellow card he needed in Amsterdam to serve a suspension before the knockout stages of the Champions League, and that he did. It was the 39th minute of the first half when he appeared to stupidly kick away the ball at a free kick right in front of referee Pavel Královec who did not hesitate to show him the card he was looking for.

It is unknown if it was done on purpose or not but if UEFA considers it was he could be suspended for two matches. As it was, the Barca midfielder was already taking a risk due to the early stage of the game in which he did it. Until now, Fabregas had played in all four Champions League matches.

Think it's mental if he gets sacked right now to be honest; it's not as if they're 15th or whatever, they're only four points off second and part of a tight back.

If he does get sacked? Don't think it'll be a huge club. I'd guess someone like Valencia or Malaga where there's not a huge amount of money and he'll have to prove himself with a bit less pressure.

Kaka was class tonight - absolutely ran amok. A level above anyone else on the pitch, though Balotelli looked up there at times. Feel priveleged to have seen another great in the flesh. He was applauded off the pitch by the whole of Celtic Park and absolutely deserved it.

i was joking, but i wouldn't rule out di matteo so easily. if avb does get fired at one point, they'll want someone who can lead them to short-term success, i.e., a top four spot. it wouldn't surprise me if they would go for di matteo based on his success at chelsea.

I think he'd be far better as a coach to be honest, it's dawned on me over the last season and a half. Don't think he has the force of personality and the man management skills that you need really.

The lack of service to Soldado is particularly disheartening. They're just so willing to pass it around in non-threatening areas, they don't look for the early ball or cross, they don't watch his runs and release him almost as soon as they're past the half way line. They take their time to build an attack and then the opposition get bodies back. It's really odd considering what his Porto team were like.

Yeah I don't buy half of that. Have a go at the fans actually worked for a start as the atmospheres noticeably improved since then. The Sandro/Dembele thing is bullshit as well because Sandro's coming back from a long term injury and Dembele's started 14 games this season and has never once been an unused sub.

This, for me, is the worst fucking thing. I feel for Soldado. A good ol' fashion No. 9, a lurker in the final third, and a talented midfield can't be fucking arsed to notice him.
He'll probably be top goal scorer if he was at West Ham.

I do think the media is out to get him. I think it might have been Tony Evans who tried to claim that AVB must have a personality disorder, whilst at Chelsea.

One of the things being blamed is his demands of defensive work from his wingers. You have to imagine they just had much less work to do in the Portuguese league. They also had Hulk.

On that front: I don't know what to think about Lamela honestly. He doesn't look like a £30m player. I thought he'd be a standout player for the PL this season, a Hazard type, but he's not even being selected much and hasn't shone at all when he plays.

Roma, on the other hand are flying despite selling Borini (performed great for them), Destro out injured, and Lamela and Osvaldo sold. Must be Michael Bradley. USA USA USA

Bradley can't get in the first team over future United joint captains Strootman and Pjanic.

Agree with you on both counts, certainly the first one; of course the Portuguese league just isn't the same quality, but you'd feel that if Spurs took a little from Southampton's approach and played two defensive minded midfielders it might help the wingers out in that regard. Capoue and Sandro might be a little 'negative' on paper but if it means Lennon, Townsend, Lamela et al are freed up a tad, might be worth looking at pretty soon. Also Holtby needs to be out of the team for Gylfi/Eriksen, he's not very good in my opinion.

For Lamela, I knew there'd be a bedding in period. I think the move came too early to be honest, could have done with another year or two at Roma. He seems like quite a quiet lad and he's got a huge price tag and a lot of pressure on him, and it seems like it's affecting him. Honestly, he's got all the talent in the world. It'll click eventually, but in fits and droves for a while.

In the sense of forcing the players into a strict system to the point where they just seem to forget how to play football. They pass superbly as a team but then they get into the final 3rd and...nothing happens. They just continue to pass and pass and pass until they either lose the ball or someone takes a shot. They just seem to be over thinking everything.

I'm not saying the team need Redknapp and his "Just fackin run around a bit" style but no one seems to be playing their natural game at the moment.
