Decided to Replay GOW 3 again as its been a long time since i finished it. Also finished my 3rd play trough of MGS:rising so wanted another game in this genre. i was expecting the experience to be just average because i have already finished the game before and am playing right after Rising but man i was so wrong. The first thing that stuck to me was this game is so beautiful and i even tough word epic is overused but i cant find anything else to describe it. The fight with Poseidon was not challenging but its was visually spectacular. and it filled my inner itch of not only seeing but playing these big epic fights. after that GOW3 was still run and mill GoW game play but i still enjoyed it. its not button masher like people describe it. even on normal difficulty you have to block and evade . then came the Hades fight and man i fell in love with this game again. the fight was intense and so fun. The other thing i realized that SSM excel not only in tech but also in art department. the lightning and the choice of camera angels made this fight so beautiful. Just compare this game to recent Sam Warthog titan movies and this game does everything better than that movie
I kept on continuously playing this game for 4 or 5 more hours and stopped before Hercules fight. and again loved this fight. it really felt like to behemoth are fighting. no other game is able to capture this feeling for me . You can feel every attack connecting thanks to intelligent use of rumble effect.The graphics are still top notch specially in crystal mansion where it looked like RYSE. Also one thing that surprised me was this game has good platforming elements too. these parts are shcokingly much harder than many so called plat formers
If SSM can continue this level of quality with GOW i have no problem sony milking this franchise. so many developers are trying to imitate this formula but none have succeeded so far(e.g ryse,hravenly sword). I know Ascension was not very well received here but i need more GOW. Cant wait for next entry on next gen consoles

Anyway, truly a marvelous looking game, the first time I fought poseidon my jaw was on the floor for a good 3 hours.

Yeah I'll admit that I thought it was Gears of war - but glad it turned out to be God of war. I'm with you friend, absolutely love that game - played through twice, back to back. Playing through the second time on the hardest difficulty really makes you swear a lot, but it's a great challenge. It is EPIC in nature, and I think the most memorable for me in the series so far. I will always hate QTE's, and if there is another one, I really want them to try something different.
I just completed Ratchet and Clank: Nexus and I loved it (like the series) - game looks and plays great. I have Metal gear: rising sitting there to go too, so I'll have to get into that.

I'm thinking of buying the saga for PS3, I only have the first two on PS2 but never completed them. My fear is that it might become too repetitive and I don't think I will like the main guy; Kratos. A bad main character can ruin any game for me, like Alex Mercer in Prototype. I don't want to play some lunatic who is glorified for being an asshole I don't like, which is my main concern. I will pay attention to opinions of people in here and hopefully some of my concerns will be alleviated.

God of War Ascension had even better graphics. And MUCH more skill based gameplay. But the scale wasn't as grand as GOW3.
Ascension was a bit of a led down for me, but GOW 3, awwww yeahhhhhhh, such an amazing game (and no annoying spinning things that you get sliced by like in... The first one is it?).

If people say the word epic in regards to video games, GoW3 comes to mind this gen.
I didn't like him either and just felt like you, I actually struggled finishing GoW 1 (the first game I played when it came out as a HD version) due to him, but in the end I played all games. For me it's GoW 2=GoW3 > GoW: GoS > GoW1 > GoW: Ascension > GoW: CoO.
wow still controversy over thread title. i always assumed that GOW was god of war and geow or gears was acronym for gears of war
It was alright. I enjoyed it a lot, but coming off God of War 2 I wasn't exactly blown away by it. The second best game in the series, though I say that without having played Ascension other than the mp beta and the demo. Also I was very disappointed when Hades wasn't voiced by James Woods.
The game is completely unfun on anything higher than normal (I started fresh on titan). I really don't like this one.

Easily the best God of War.
One of the few games where playing at the highest difficulty level creates an even better experience and a more coherent gameplay/narrative dynamic. You truly feel how dangerous and deadly Kratos quest really is. Love it.
One of the best games of the generation. I still think fondly of the Poseidon fight and the Hercules fight.
To me this is one of the best games this generation. So large scale and jaw droppingly epic.

Not as good as God of War 2, but still a fantastic game with one of the best openings ever.
Best looking game from last gen.
GoW3 was a mixed bag for me. I really enjoyed 2 for the sense of variety, it kept bringing you to great new locales and felt like a huge step up from the first game. 3 seemed to spend far too much on a few segments(intro, cronos being the main ones that come to mind) while a lot of the game blurred together for me. It also started bugging me at the end with that awful scorpion boss fight that has completely wacked out hitboxes, and the extreme difficulty hump out of nowhere with the Cerberus dogs. And the cherry on top was pretty weak post game offerings as the dlc age destroyed the whole costume thing, and the trials were weak. And they patched the new game+ exploit. >:(
However, it had some high points with me. I really enjoyed the Hades and Hercules fights, and they are probably near the top of my favorite bosses for the franchise. And it was certainly beautiful, of course.
