Anyone else got this email?Hello,
I am emailing you to advise that there is a small chance that your Eurogamer account was accessed by a 3rd party.
On the evening of Tuesday 26th November, a mistake during a site update caused a serious bug where a small number of users were accidentally logged in to one or more completely different user accounts, at random. This problem lasted for 3 hours. Your account may or may not be one of those accessed.
During this period, individuals were able to view a limited amount of private profile information (listed below), and could read private messages sent using the site's IM system. In addition, some users chose to post on the forum and comments system as the other user.
Users were not able to retrieve passwords and these have not been compromised.
I believe the problem to have been fully rectified. Nevertheless, you should be aware that one or more people may now know the following information about you:
The email address associated with your Eurogamer account.
Your real name, should you have provided that to us.
Your geographical location, should you have chosen to enter that into your profile.
The contents of any private messages you sent using the site's IM system.
If you know that you have sensitive information in your account IMs, then you should act as if that information has been compromised, even if you have no other indications that your account was accessed.
I apologise sincerely for any distress or inconvenience this has caused to you.
If you have any further questions, or would like a fuller explanation of what went wrong, please contact me directly at the above email address.
This email has only been sent to a very small group of users - users who were not emailed were not affected by this.
Regards,
Mark
