The main reason being is that people were charging shipping costs as a primary way to earn money off the sale, since Ebay didn't take a cut of the shipping price, but the final sale price.
They'll get owned, for sure.
If the guy takes him to court he will be screwed. You can't put up an ad like that for the "box only" to trick someone, when in the description it clearly saysOriginally Posted by zomgbbqftw

Idiots.
Good on the dude selling it though! A fool and his money are soon parted.
And also has a description of the features included (Kinect etc.) I'm pretty sure people who have tried this in the past screw themselves over because they include info like this in their ad description.Platform: Microsoft Xbox One Type: Home Console

the games are not looking significantly better than games on 360 or ps3 and you only have a couple of exclusives to play with.
and the next batch of games is in late february/march (infamous:ss, titanfall).
nah, i rather wait until march or april to buy a next gen console.
then you will have a steady supply and you will also have some budget games.
with the extra money i get for my preordered ps4 on ebay, a ps4 is costing me 100€ in spring.
plus there are a lot of games for the 360 i havent completet yet-
I would hope something like this happens in court (Judge Judy clip):If the guy takes him to court he will be screwed. You can't put up an ad like that for the "box only" to trick someone, when in the description it clearly says

Dude got gta5 which isn't out. Stealth game launch incoming.Read the description again. He bought the PS3 versions of those two games, then paid the $20 to download the PS4 versions to the console.
Edit: which is still a little odd, since the PS4 version of GTA V isn't out. Is it?
Xbone has NO profit whatsoever.
Why did you make this thread :/
Buyer was very happy considering the insane amounts people are asking (and getting) around here. I got a free game out of it, that's more than enough.
Buyer has no feedback. 50/50 shot it's a fake bid.Just saw an Xbox One just go for £707

Xbox highest I've seen is $660. The regular retail price difference here is only $50...
People get crazy around Xmas
that's the one I sold, I spent £499 on it and made a good profit so bought a ps4 which ironically cost me more as with the xbox one I got Kinect and Fifa with it and already had xboxlive.
It pretty much is, when brought up with ebay or disputed with PayPal they would probably refund the buyer. The seller on the other hand for deception would be out the shipping costs. So it's really a loss for the asshat seller.Originally Posted by Meus Renaissance

Not to mention negative feedback from the buyer and possible ban. But still, any person who bid on that is mind numbingly stupid.
All they're doing is ruining Ebay's policies against the sellers, which don't need to be made any worse.
I thought that only applies to when you don't receive the item or when the item received doesn't match the description. Neither of which apply in these cases. The Ebay buyer protection policy will cover all the scams easily. I don't know why the sellers bother anymore - this isn't 2004.
Not really, Ebay doesn't really allow this bullshit anymore, even if it does say in the listing that it's just an empty box.Originally Posted by hohoXD123

Since I know that they have in the past.

1. Listed in the description as a box only
2. Listed in item condition as a box
3. Listed on ebay under ACCESSORIES, not as a console.
4. made clear in the item description that it's a box with no console inside for those who need just the box
5. Auction start at 99p
Surely if people start bidding on that thinking it's a console, it's their own fault?
If the buyer complains, Ebay will easily side with him, refund the money and ban the seller. It might take a week or two, but the buyer will win.Originally Posted by richisawesome

Technically if someone really wanted to do that they could easily withdraw the money to their account, change all their personal details, delete their banking and then close their paypal account. The buyer would then unfortunately be screwed. If the buyer complains, Ebay will easily side with him, refund the money and ban the seller. It might take a week or two, but the buyer will win.
No, the buyer would still get there money back, and you would now take a credit hit for non payment of a bill.Originally Posted by richisawesome

Paypal will hold on to the Seller's Paypal Balance for about a month or after the buyer provides a feedback that the item has been received and well.
If the buyer files a case (example the goods is not what is presented from the ad) Ebay will hold on to the seller's balance in Paypal and most likely will side the buyer.
The seller won't even be able to remove its credit card info while the case is still active.
The seller can withdraw the balance and do everything suggested in that post as soon as the payment clears (even prior to shipping the item). However, that still won't prevent them from losing out in the end, as already posted. That's not how it works.

for me it was the other way around. sold my xbox in two days for $800. took 17 days to finally move the ps4 for $660 with two games. a lot of people offering very low offers for the ps4, expecting to get it for retail or near retail cost. pissed me off.Originally Posted by Shadow780

I'm just going by what happened to me last year. I sold an item on ebay (skyward sword special edition) for £60 that was brand new, sealed and perfect. The buyer, almost a month later, then opened up a dispute with ebay and paypal after messaging me saying that the item received was in used condition, broken and he wanted a full refund. That was obviously bullshit - he'd played through the bloody thing and wanted rid of it.
Ebay and paypal immediately sided with him, and ordered me to issue a refund. Obviously, I refused. Luckily I knew where this was heading from his first message to me - at that point I removed my bank details from PayPal, changed my address to a fictional one and made sure there any links to my money were truly severed.
When the dispute was opened, my paypal account was put on hold and given a -£60 figure. Guess what? Didn't cost me a penny. I never had to pay that scammer back, thank fuck. Eventually my paypal account was closed, but who gives a shit. I opened a new one.
And my credit rating is fine - I've taken out two loans, got a £8k car and two credit cards since then.
Secondly, keep in mind the shipping charges and eBay/PayPal fees. Shipping can easily run about $50 and the fees for a $600 auction are around $75. Say a ps4 sold for $600. About $440 for the system after tax, and $125 for the above expenses. Is $35 really worth the time and effort involved? Not to mention the chance that you might get scammed out of both your money and your system?
Not how it works at all. That's not how it works.

The seller can withdraw the funds right away, the buyer can dispute it and eBay/PayPal will most likely refund the buyer regardless of the £510 still being there or not.
The sellers eBay account will then be suspended and their PayPal account will have a balance of -£510. If this isn't paid after a while they will pass the debt on to a debt collector who will phone him, send letters and perhaps show up at his house. It will go down as a bad credit on his credit profile too and fuck his credit rating.
This is how it is in the UK anyway.
The guy listed the 'box' in the 'consoles' section, he's not going to get away with it.
