Antichamber - This is still in contention for my GOTY, A Link Between Worlds may have overtaken it though. Not sure if this one can be considered "unpopular" though, I think a good amount of people got into it.

The Swapper - Great puzzle game, really moody atmosphere, absolutely gorgeous.

Battleblock Theater - Behemoth's newest game, rarely see it mentioned. Has excellent level design later in its campaigns, both in co-op and single player. Probably the best couch multiplayer game released in a long time, the multiplayer games are just a blast. Really charming platformer.

I wonder how well Atelier Ayesha sold. I remember lots of boycotting around here because of no CE and also no dual-audio. Despite that, I really enjoyed the game and definitely one of the best RPGs I played this year. Don't know how I'm going to compare to the Arland trilogy though.

Non-stop rollercoaster of amazing visuals. I have the hardcover artbook, I can highly recommend it to anyone interested in the game's visuals.

Remember Me deserved better than this.

The Cave, definitely. It is on sale for 75% off on XBL, so I grabbed it. It is amaze-nipples. One of the best download titles I have played, and I am very glad I enjoyed it, even more than other games rated much higher than it.

Oh lord, I forgot about Book of Shadows.

I loved Corpse Party, but I don't think I can take any more. That game just depressed the shit out of me. I put the game down for a month when I had to play as the little sister. Nope, nope, nope, noooooope.

Maybe now I'll get around to it...*sigh*

The art for Remember Me is insane indeed. Pleasantly surprised by that game, thanks PS+.

I'd recommend:

Antichamber. This is like a dark, twisted and insane companion to Portal. If you're a fan of the latter, you have to play this game. Not an option. This is top 3 of 2013 material for me.

Gunpoint. Stealth puzzler with great mechanics and design. You have the ability to rewire electronics, giving you a bunch of options how to beat the level. Screens make it look a bit complicated, but it's not. The post-mission banter is pretty funny and the game doesn't wear out its welcome. Only takes about 4 to 5 hours to beat, perfect length.

Not going to list more, just the two I feel everyone should play.

I was very let down because of the great art. The game kept showing you all these amazing locations and ideas...and then diverting you into a bland arena to hit buttons for 10 minutes.

What could have been...

Volgarr the Viking tops my list of games people should play. Very old school, but that school is still damn fine.

I think the best game that didnt get enough attention this year is actually the PC strategy-game Europa Universalis 4. Waaaay too many people dismiss games like this because it looks to hard or something else, and the gaming press treats it like it doesnt exist, but its my game of the year so far (havent played Zelda yet), and its unfortunately only played by a small group of enthusiasts.

Price is the problem with EU4 for me. Now I'm sure it is worth every cent, but it isn't like I don't have a heap of other games I haven't played.

Battle Worlds is very much suffering from the same issue for me. From everything I hear it is a real quality experience...but nobody seems to have it.

Hmm for some levels you definitely have a point, like the sterile prison level. The outside areas were more varied. But you do stare at the pretty more than actually playing in it, agreed.

Volgarr, oh man. That game isn't just old school hard, it's hard old school hard. I made it past the first boss but I'm done for a while. I usually have the patience and persistence for these games, but Volgarr's pushing it.

Aside from the aesthetics, I thought the game was mediocre, but I really hope Dontnod get another shot at it. A sequel a few years down the line could be truly amazing.

Just let us explore the beautiful environments, please.

Dark and twisted are not words I would use to describe AntiChamber...Portal 2 is probably darker...great game regardless

Criminally gets overlooked despite the booming popularity of 'rogue-likes' nowadays and despite the goodwill Adult Swim Games fostered with their published Steam games this year. It's fast-paced with excellent and responsive controls, it's deliciously old-school in design (especially the audio) and it's a steal at 5 bucks (main game + DLC with the current Winter Sale discounts). The developers, including GAF's SovanJedi, have also been very receptive of overall feedback over at the Steam Community boards and regularly followed up with patches both big and small months after the game's release. Every other game I considered mentioning has already been brought up in here, so this is my go-to pick by a country mile.

If they ever release a Super House of Dead Ninja's 2, it'll be a no-brainer for me.

One big problem I had with the art style is that everything tended to blend in visually in certain worlds, area's which I can imagine were a total pain for colorblind players. The fourth world (with the industrial, lava-filled environments) in particular was terrible in this regard, and the backgrounds of the final world got too cluttered in conjunction with how much the game started throwing at you. Both made it hard to see what's ahead of you on occassion even for someone like me with near-perfect eyesight.

I'm surprised this hasn't been addressed by the developers through means of a patch and it likely never will; I expected the above to be a bigger deal.

Co-sign. All the blatant carrot-on-a-stick "gameplay" mechanics in a futile attempt to one-up Call of Duty has soured me on the genre ever since 4 was released, but games like Gunslinger still give me what I'm looking for in a good shooter (even if it was still very linear at heart). It's too bad Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon got all the attention at the time and I'm also very much looking forward to Shadow Warrior.

Antichamber is a good choice. I never got into Portal, but I loved this. It's a little loose feeling, but fairly clever, and occasionally really confounding.

An adventure where you play as a mother badger with the objective being to protect your babies through different stages and obstacles. It's short, but effected me emotionally in a way very few games do. It's currently 60% off on Steam making it $3.99. Or you can buy it through Humble, but it's not on sale.

This is an abstract first-person adventure game set in space. There's very little story in the game and what little there is is obtuse. It's a beautiful and mysterious world that is a lot of fun to explore and has secrets that can be found. It also gives a feeling of being isolated and alone, yet there is a multiplayer component that provides a sense of not being totally on your own. It's on sale right now on Steam for $6.69 or you can buy it through Humble where it's currently on sale as well for the same price.

This was originally released as a free game for Adult Swim but had content added to it and released on Steam in the form of an expanded version. It's like a musical shmup where bullets fly out to the music playing and you have to avoid them. There's also a mechanic that allows the player to slow everything to help maneuver around the bullets. It also has a fantastic soundtrack. It's $3.99 for the duration of Steam's Autumn Sale. Or you can just player the original free version I linked to above.

All three of those games are some of my favorites of this year and will be on my top ten list.

Its sad. It seemed that the Wii finally delivered on its promises with motion controls when the system was all but dead. I imagine an alternate universe where Skyward Sword was the Wii's launch title.

An extremely in-depth fantasy turn-based strategy game. Granted it launched in a buggy state, right now it's mostly fine but criminally ignored by gaming communities.

Amen to Sly Cooper Thieves in Time.

As a huge Sly fan that game really was amazing to me (especially since the fine folks at Sanzaru made it rather than Sucker Punch).

It really is ashame that Sony seemingly didn't market it at all when it came out and no one played it.
