Ah yeah, probably should have added, even if you can't get a server set up for you and your friends, HaRyu usually has a GAF server up. If Terraria was any indication, it will be positively jumpin' most of the time.

For the Beta, I'm pretty sure I read in the FAQ thread that files will be saved locally.

You'll be able to buy it when it launches for Early Access on Wedesday via Steam.

Yep. I'll release info about access to the server when the game hits.

It was never on Kickstarter. You can still preorder it from their site: http://playstarbound.com/store/

or as mentioned, wait for it on Steam Early Access.

Guys, I have a question. I'm thinking of pre-ordering Starbound to get beta access. I see that every pre-order includes a copy of Starbound. Now that the game is scheduled to release on PS4 as well, I'm inteded to play it there.

So the question is, if I pre-order this today, is there any chance that I can use my copy to download it on PS4 when it eventually comes out?

Thanks for the help in advance.

I've had my one eye on this for quite a while, but I never got too in-depth into the features because the game is so massive. I never realized until watching Zoey's video that the game is very heavy on Minecraftian crafting to make your home, tools, everything. Spending hours collecting and refining resources always seemed like pointless grinding to me, so the whole "and then we can get a pickaxe just for stone!" bit gave me bad flashbacks. I just wanted to run around and explore procedural worlds, find treasure, and build where I want to without worrying about resources. So now I'm a bit on the fence about whether I'll enjoy it.

Because a good amount of the people who had showed up in the pre-order thread got too over-hyped and angry that the game never was released earlier. So either assume that:

a) They're still "pissed" on principle, and they will never touch Starbound, ever.
b) They went on media blackout about Starbound when they got too frustrated, and don't actually know that the beta is even coming out.
c) They're waiting for beta to be completed and actual game to be released before they say anything.

They mentioned that at least connecting to other servers is like Terraria, so I think you just need to know the IP address.

So just figure out the local IP of one of the computers on the network, and have the other computers go to that IP. (ex: if your local IP is 192.168.1.110, your GF would put in that address when connecting)

This is just a guess though, you probably will want to wait until the game actually comes out and someone tests it before you plop money down.

if your asking if there is LAN then the answer is yes, whether or not it's not beta is another question. But I would assume it's in beta since it's the easiest multiplayer setup to create game wise, be kind of idiotic to program internet based multiplayer before LAN, be like building a bullet before knowing the concept of a gun.

Edit fix: damn auto correct

I'm c), the wait was long enough and we got far enough media about it that now I don't have much more to say than can't wait the 4th.

Thanks guys, well I'll get my copy now and wait till after it releases to get my GFs copy. Getting it for her as a surprise, since we spent countless hours on Terraria. I have not told her about the game at all, so it'll be "Hey babe, remember that awesome game we played a while ago? BOOOOOMMMMM BIOOOTTCHHHHH HERE"S A MUCH BETTER VERSION OF IT WOOOOOOOOOOOOO" or something like that... Not even remotely close to that XD

edit: Also, has there been mention of gamepad support? Sorry for asking silly questions but I tried to stay in a media blackout as much as I could

Anyone know if the Steam early access will have 4-packs?

Would be more comfortable going with that than just through the site if people were up for it. Otherwise I'll probably just buy it anyway.

Don't know for sure, but I'd say it's likely. Other early access games have four-packs. The site goes through Humble, if that makes you more comfortable with it.

Yeeeeeahh... I was watching him last night, I'm pretty sure this is his first stream. Ever. He also seemed to have no idea how these kind of games are played, building "houses" out of dirt and complaining when monsters got inside, wearing armor in the vanity slots, going to planets way above his level and bitching he doesn't have fuel to get back. Using wood as fuel even though he had coal, calling the flashlight useless and leaving it behind, spawning a boss after ignoring warnings that he needed armor (not just better, but ANY armor) and then bitching when he gets his ass beat.

Was watching it with a friend and we were both in awe that somebody like him received early access. He seemed to be clueless about how Minecraft / Terraria type games work. Ehhh.

Seriously though, watching him bumble around was entertaining briefly, but when he started getting mad and bitching that the game isn't very good because it's not giving him the exact material he wants in bulk was kind of obnoxious.

If the goal of a pre-release stream is to show the game off, for folks who want more hype fuel or are just checking the game out, he failed miserably.

Man... now I'm itchin to do a stream of the unofficial GAF Starbound server...

Retro tells me we have a spare Mumble server lying around we can use to chat. Any streamers want to volunteer when the beta hits? I want to try using the Dual Stream site to show off 4 players.

http://www.dualstreamnow.com/

I might be one of the 4 to stream, but I don't want to screw up any bandwith/load tests on this computer when the beta hits, so I'll probably hold off until a later stream.

BTW, I'm only asking if 4 people want to stream when they're on the server. Everyone is invited to pop in on the server and play (we'll figure out max capacity tomorrow).

I love how I keep hearing people say "This isn't like Terraria!" when it totally is. Its just Terraria taken in a different direction. But its still very much rooted in Terraria.

That's not a bad thing so I don't know why people get defensive over it.

OCD was in full swing, the giant clumsy arches of slush he used to build a base was an especially rage-inducing moment. Jira actually was saying stuff like "I bet that pisses you off" AS I WAS TYPING ABOUT HOW MUCH IT PISSED ME OFF.

I think I want Starbound so much just because, unlike Terraria, I can not want to live on a given planet anymore and actually leave.

Well, it's not just lying around, exactly. We use it for Guild Wars 2 all the time, but it has a 50 player cap and despite usually having that number of players on at primetime, not everyone is in Mumble. Most of the guild leaders chip in to keep it running, but if it's not being fully utilized, I figure a dozen GAFers using it for Starbound would at least get more of our money's worth.

Besides, that way I'm not entirely abandoning our GAFGuild, since I'll always be easy to find.
