Also, theres way too many ground monsters that make horse noises lol.
Not mechanical, but... an ancient evil awakening to put the hurt on humanity is in the game already, kinda.Originally Posted by More_Badass
Stuff like this would be awesome. How cool would it be if you accidentally awaken some kind of unstoppable mechanical beast, and then it's stalking you across the planet, maybe even off-world....
Possible Human story spoilers!

Wouldn't be shocked if whatever that is ends up being a villain of sorts.
I think this is just because the only critters we've seen are animal-like in nature. I consider them comparable to wolves, lions, etc.Speaking of creatures and monsters. I'd have to say one of my biggest complaints with watching all the beta video so far is how "fast" all of the monsters seem to be. I remember them talking about along with the random appearance, they will also have random stats and speed. From what I've seen so far that doesn't seem to be the case. Everything just leaps half a screen at super fast speeds all over you. I guess that stuff isn't quite ready or tuned yet? I don't know.

We've seen a few non-animal enemies (penguins with boomsticks, town guards) and they seem slower, but better armed, obviously.
I was waiting for this. I'll be playing with you guys.
It'll take me a bit to get a feel for things, and gather materials to build with, of course. Terraria was so bare-bones for so long, with only one type of furniture, it was pretty easy to process. Even after the last update, the amount of furniture and stuff to build with was pretty low, and since so much was poorly implemented I felt like I had more ideas than the game was capable of.Originally Posted by Weltall Zero
After seeing what you did in Terraria, I am almost literally trembling with delighted anticipation at the awesome stuff you will construct in this game. :)
Starbound though, has a ton of stuff right off the bat. I watched a stream last night where a guy found a sewer mini-dungeon and I already have a ton of ideas from just watching that. Every time I see something new, I get new ideas... and we haven't seen much of the Hylotl structures (Asian-style stuff), I don't think we've seen any human stuff, and the Novakids aren't even in yet. I feel like the game has more capacity than I have ideas, currently.
It goes without saying that having a big-ass central repository for materials where GAFers can drop stuff off would help. I can't visit every planet myself, so if I make a junkyard planet, people need to swing by and give me the space trash from their misadventures. I dunno how many people got to see what I had going in the last Terraria update, but I thought it was really impressive. I just... hit the limitations of what Terraria was able to do earlier than I expected.
Should be $15.Anyone got an idea of what the price might be on the Steam store / starbound site? Can't see it on the Starbound site seeing as it's offline atm.
Last I checked, it was $15 to pre-order so I'm expecting the same for Early Access. Would be nice to see a 10% or 15% launch discount thoughAnyone got an idea of what the price might be on the Steam store / starbound site? Can't see it on the Starbound site seeing as it's offline atm.
Also, can't wait for the beta. :)
Should be $15.
Thx, knowing Steam it's probably gonna end up as 15 euro's for Europe. Time to buy it off the Humble Bumble for 9 then :pOriginally Posted by More_Badass

Goodbye world...once the game comes out.
Should I wait for sales or is it worth jumping in to the Beta?
I say wait for impressions from the first stage of the BetaI got Terraria for like £3 and it was the most cost effective purchase I've ever made alongside Oblivion for £3 back in 08.

Could be fine, could be disastrous and extremely buggy.
Its almost out so you will probably know tomorrow :)
Exactly this, unless you're dying to play ASAP, like some of us. You can always buy in if it turns out it's great to play even in stage 1 beta.Originally Posted by Unbound By Death

I don't think I can resist. Going to be playing the beta immediately.

Not sure if all this is 100% accurate but:
And I've seen more weather info elsewhere- Weather is atmospheric, and lightning is generated in real time on the screen. Trees will sway in wind and more clouds will appear in rainstorms
- Planets day and night cycles will differ based on the planet, some may even be eternally dark or eternally light.
- Acid rain has been mentioned, which may actually eat away at player constructions during certain quests to protect an injured npc.
- Warmth Meter - Depletes at different speeds based on the warmth of the planet/surroundings. It takes into account things like weather, time of day, wind chill, etc.
Boy, am I glad I watched some early impression videos. I probably would have ignored that (in hindsight incredibly obvious) source and run all over the planet in search for the item in question. This would seriously have left me stumped. (I blame Terraria.)
Not much time left until the beta starts... this is torture. I just know my mail with the beta key will get sucked into the void in a freak router malfunction.

I WANT THIS GAME NOW!
What did it do?That cat is amazing
And since we can have pets, and the devs want breeding, how cool would it be if you can grow and evolve your pet into a dangerous companion? Like the cat could be grow and engineered along the way to become a armored tiger-like beast that accompanies and protects you
Everywhere wants me to buy Shadow Warrior O.o
I am talking about the streamers cat. It looks like a leopard!Originally Posted by More_Badass

He has a gold pickaxe. It's insane how much faster the digging speed is compared.
If I'm not mistaken, PBat was the first guy to do Let's Plays for Terraria before launch. He'd put one out every day and I'd consume it. Though with SB I'm trying to not watch anything as exploration is one of my favorite aspects of gaming.http://www.twitch.tv/paperbat
