Buy it so I can kick your ass in it!It's a super solid game--I've watched a lot of really interesting Let's Plays of the PC and XBLA versions. I wanna buy it so bad, but the controls in the demo are practically impossible for me to get used to. Bleh!
Any news on VitaTV? I really want that now.

I'm pretty sure that's normal for the PS3/Vita version, unlike the PC/360 versions, I'd guess?

Nothing as of this time yet officially.Got mine from the Amazon Black Friday deal, I am loving this device and wish I had bought it sooner, the only game I have played since getting it is Persona 4G, so I already a have a stack with backlog with Killzone and Lummines on top.

Its not helping that the usual suspects in the gaming media are shitting on it also. The Verge being one of them. Dont bother reading the crap they wrote, will only wind up pissing you off with how stupid the article is.
I can tell you right now that its a fucking fantastic little device for what it can do and the price. There really isnt anything wrong with it besides the fact that folks in the West want one but cant import it due to the regional restrictions put on the device. Anything else is just being a tit really.
Practice and patience, grasshopper.Spelunky is just too hard for my taste, it's like running face first into a brick wall.
I played the first two chapters, which act as sort of an intro to the story/gameplay, it seems. I laughed a couple times already so I think the game is going to be very amusing. Seems like it should be puzzles with some platforming. Graphics quality was acceptable, but hard to say what the deal with it is when some of it does look blurry. The game runs fine though, no hiccups, load times seem acceptable (no mid chapter loading in my experience yet), etc.Originally Posted by VanWinkle

Since bluemaxima seems to be MIA, here's a video of it running on Vita at E3:

I've never had Guacamelee crash.Man, guacamelee is kicking my arse with some of the enemies and platforming. As soon as you get the doublejump and dimension change abilities, the difficulty seems to have jumped. Also crashed on me a few times in the worst places.
But the platforming is definitely challenging in parts.
Fortunately, I thought the game did a good job of ramping up to those... where in particular do you seem to be having trouble? (Tule Tree?)
Stick it to the man sounds pretty fun. Will try and hold off for a day to hear more impressions but probably will nab it quite soon. Then for the other indies:
Maybe V-trax, although seeing trackmania on DS it gives me hope for a Vita version some day.Doki-Doki Universe 10th December
Terraria - Dec 2013 ??
Eufloria HD - 18th December
Dusforce - Jan 2014
Luftrausers - Early 2014
Binding of Isaac?
TxK - ?
olliolli - ?
hohokum- ?
It has uses, that's not a bad one but being broke it's probably not the best buy to keep for myself I think, thanks.Set it up for another region. If your main Vita's PSN is EU, having a backup set up for NA or JP lets you grab locally unreleased stuff for a lot less than importing.
My heart says to pick it up, use it to hook my dad on Football Manager and then get him to buy a PS4. Bit too much risk though, maybe I'll get to spend it on some games if I get lucky with the sales.Stay true to your heart, Skyzard <3
Feel a bit bad for the taking the reservation but it expires tomorrow, and the offer ends later on, not so bad.
Two vitas though, spelunky co-op, mum on flower, LBP co-op. Less battery hassle, probably end up actually playing the games on my other memory card...although since I got the 64 I still haven't set up the 32 for the overflow games (that didn't fit on 64).
They're looking into it last I heard.Originally Posted by Acquiescence

I'm guessing it will have "a little bit of motion blur" when compared to the legendary OLED.

It's such a shame that the NA store doesn't discount more PSP games. I totally have a list of things I want but I'm unwilling to pay $20 for them (NEOGEO Heroes, Metal Slug Collection, Gradius Collection, Sega Genesis Collection, etc.).

Mutant Mudds Deluxe and Rogue Legacy both added to the list thanks! Just watching some videos of both now. Although I'm a bit worried that Spelunky has ruined other platformers for me. Just encountered the golden monkey that poops gold and gems. Amazing.Originally Posted by corrosivefrost

It'll be gone by the end of the month, probably when Sonic Racing Transformed rolls over to Free.Just got some money rolling into my account, I'm just wondering what's the status on Soul Sacrifice on PS+ right now? Did it join as one of those games that will just stay around or is it going away soon-ish. Because I'm without Plus atm, and I got some other stuff to play, so I'm only going to activate it right now if SS is about to disappear from the freebies, I guess.
It will disappear soon. Likely end of this month or for sure by the end of January. SCEA has made it clear that they do not plan on changing out Uncharted/WipEout 2048/Gravity Rush any time soon.Just got some money rolling into my account, I'm just wondering what's the status on Soul Sacrifice on PS+ right now? It's amazeballs.
So much so, that I will buy it instantaneously once it is released and it will never leave my Vita's 64gb card (just like Spelunky).
Possible, but not guaranteed. It'll be gone by the end of the month, probably when Sonic Racing Transformed rolls over to Free.
The Vita games up for replacement this month are: Soul Sacrifice, Stranger's Wrath, and Hotline Miami (I think).

The game is so good that when I saw it was being sold for $4 in the B/S/T, I bought the seller out of all copies he had remaining and gifted them to people on my Steam friends list.
There is still some slowdown in the more intensive levels, even after the patch -- I had a jungle level combining "The dead are restless" with "I hear water running..." (and I was checking to see if the hidden character was at the bottom of that level in the PSVita version; he's not). I hit some slowdown in there, so it's not totally gone... but it's still much better than it was.Oh, it's totally me, not the game. I'm very picky about character movement in stuff (inertia/momentum, friction, impact, etc.), so it's just something I'd have to personally get used to. I had similar problems enjoying Rayman Origins when that came out, as well.
What's wrong with them? They're incredibly tight as far as I can tell.

Not sure if you're just not liking holding the R shoulder button to run or what...
I've been playing a lot of Spelunky on both PC (with x360 controller currently, I need to see if DS4 will work with it using x360ce) and the worst part of adjustment for me between the two is that they put RB as the equivalent of the Vita's L. But that's only for exiting a level, so I'm not too bothered by it.
The issue is the combination of extreme difficulty (unlike, say, Binding of Isaac you can get instakilled from full health very easily so any momentary lapse in concentration can be an instant game over) and lack of lesser objectives (e.g. in Binding or FTL you can go for various unlock targets first before facing the challenge of a full game completion) so anything less than a win doesn't count at all but a win feels so impossibly far away. It makes me think that there's no chance in hell that I'll ever manage to do any better than a total failure (i.e. a loss at any point in the game). I'd rather play La Mulana for my indy fix.Originally Posted by corrosivefrost

Long answer: Hell, you don't even need to download them. Just "purchase" the free game and then when the download starts, cancel it. They'll remain in your download list for future use. :)

Only once you get your 100%. :)You're doing it wrong. You're supposed to throw Welcome Park in a bubble and never start it up again.

Why haven't you guys talked about Nuclear Throne (formerly Wasteland Kings) by Vlambeer games (Super Crate Box, Luftrausers) in here? I didn't even know it was coming to Vita (it is -- PC, PS4, Vita, and I guess Xbone now).
Game looks kind of cool. Not $13 early access on Steam cool, but cool enough it's on my Steam wishlist now and I'm curious to see how the Vita version ends up.
Apparently, over in the thread about how ID@Xbox forced (in a way) Vlambeer to give Sony a 1 month exclusive for Nuclear Throne, the article mentions something about Luftrausers indicating that one version is screwing up the release:
Anyway, it looks cool, go check it out."Honestly, we've had enough trouble with our promise for a simultaneous release for Luftrausers, so by getting rid of parity we'd be able to focus on one platform for Nuclear Throne first. We also liked that we got to honor our long and super-pleasant cooperation with the people at Sony that way."
Turns out he got hooked on Hotline Miami and now is looking for one himself. Any deals I should point him to?
I'm in two minds about the game's structure. I also love its replayability because of the levels being random generated. It's a genius idea that works with the game. I guess it's just the challenge that is off putting, and more so when luck is against you. So in a sense, it would have been welcome if the game had different options to costumize the way you play the game depending on your mood, like you given the choice to have checkpoints or not, or you adjust the amount of enemies on screen or their aggressiveness. It's pretty odd that the game doesn't have any difficulty modes.I love all those things about the game!
Much prefer infinite re-playability over a set design with checkpoints! The challenge and randomness is what makes each adventure great, even if only short. Watch some pros play for inspiration!
(spoilers):

Having the shortcuts is already basically cheating :P I love it all!
I'm doing exactly how you are in terms of progress so far btw, just making it to the ice place once or twice. PM me if you plan on sticking around and doing the daily challenges, so far just novacaine has done today's apparently...and I rocked his score :P (still planning on getting that ssd score up too btw).
I'd have loved being able to properly finish the game and then go back to the game and play it again just for the randomness, but then trying to survive as long as possible with the way it's meant to be played.
Thanks for the link, I've watched some of it already and is it me, or does it seem like the guy is playing the levels for a long time? Usually I take between seconds and 4 minutes on every level *will watch more of it later*
I'm definitely planning on playing the game more. Actually, today was pretty embarrassaring, as I was playing the game for so many hours. Every journey might last a couple of minutes, but you can't help but continuing all the time. And that's what I don't like, wasting hours on a game, doing the same sections over and over just because you can't save your progress. It felt unhealthy :( And that's without even trying daily challenges!
I'm having trouble getting a shotgun since shops are random and you don't always have enough money :( There have been so many times where I had like 30k wanting to spend on a shotgun before the jungle levels end. I also didn't realize that the shortcut for the temple levels won't appear if you don't have the shortcut for the ice level. Very frustrating!Originally Posted by corrosivefrost
(1) It's a goal to strive for. As a heads up, the 3rd item to unlock the ice caves shortcut is the shotgun. The third item to unlock the temple shortcut is the key you find in 1-2, 1-3, or 1-4. Plus it teaches you to deal with the basic gameplay elements through repetition. There is no point in just starting in those later levels unless you want to practice on them... the main point of the game is speed/score runs (look at the daily challenge; hooray, I'm #13 today. I'm sure that will fall...). If you don't start at the beginning you miss all chances to get items in shops and to do some of the more fantastic stuff like the black market and using the Ankh.
(2) If there's a part with a huge fish? You don't deal with that, it should only be at the bottom of the level. If you really wanted to kill them all, I suppose you could jump in the water with a shotgun and go commando... but I don't think there's a reason to. The exit to the level should be on one of the pieces of land floating on the water.
But I'm trying to stick with playing the game from the beginning instead of using a shortcut. I made it to the temple once. It felt good for a couple of seconds, but I didn't get to explore it, some mummy killed me straight away.
Thanks about the huge fish, I thought you were meant to kill it. I wasn't sure where the exit was, at first I thought it was in the water!
You are set, congrats! Nice photo too.Got my Vita today. Very happy with it so far. Grabbed P4G, Hot Shots Golf, and Spelunky.
All those attempts and lost progress weren't for nothing though! It all sinks in and helps you get better at the game.I'm in two minds about the game's structure. Every run I'm secretly hoping to do amazing but I know that the death will be quick and perhaps feel unfair still. Just got to learn and move on. It being pretty hard makes it so rewarding when you do well, makes it feel like a proper accomplishment.
You're right it's always awesome to have customisation in the game so that you can play to suit your mood. I feel like the shortcuts are close enough to that, despite still sucking when I use them, they are basically cheats to practice and skip sections when you don't feel like struggling.
The guy in that video was spending forever in the early sections as I think he was trying to get the ghost to go over gems to turn them into more valuable gems or something like that. Still need to finish off the rest of the video myself...but the dude moves so swiftly, amazing gaming awareness.
Might try to look for some mutual demos on both stores to test later but I haven't noticed any yet. Pretty much feels like the oled minus the colors. I'd say it's much closer to the LCDs in modern tablets and smartphones than that abomination in the psp 3000 from 2008, which was sub par even at that time.Originally Posted by corrosivefrost

Is Rogue Legacy frustrating like Spelunky? I was really looking forward to that one (being a mix of castlevania and arcade style gameplay) but my heart can't deal with more of Spelunky straight after.I don't like Spelunky at all, but I absolutely love Rogue Legacy. I will be most certainly double dipping on the Vita version when it hits.
They end on 11 December, so you have enough time for them.Oh my god, thanks a lot. I'm totally buying them. Do you know when the sale ends?
Not sure wether to get them myself.
The military DLC was pretty fun, but are the other two worth it at this price?
While we are speaking about indie games, Honeyslug (Frobisher Says, Hohokum, Passing Time) will also release Super Exploding Zoo for Vita. I really like their games so far so I have big expectations :)Then for the other indies:

I'm doing my bit!
Welcome to all the new vitabros! Hope you enjoy this awesome device.
Also, to anyone with an EU account, who have never had PS+ before, I have two 30day trial codes to give away. And I want to give them to vitabros, so if anyone is interested - just ask. :)
On another note, I'm looking for a protective case or a soft pouch for the Vita. With the PSP I'm used to its soft pouch, but given the Vita's analog sticks (while the PSP have a 'nub'), wouldn't a soft pouch press on the analog sticks and have a negative effect on them in the long run?
At the moment I'm using my PSP's protective case to store the Vita, but it's not really comfortably to go around with that.
I really liked the PS3 demo a while back...it's nothing earth shattering and the combat can get repetitive, but it moves along well, levelling up gets addicting and the interface is well done...I might buy the Vita only version, would also like some impressions but it probably looks the same as the PS3,I mean it's not an intense graphical game.Any impressions on Rainbow Moon yet? I have the demo downloaded but I haven't been able to dive into it yet.
Welcome to VitaGAF!Got my Vita today. Very happy with it so far. Grabbed P4G, Hot Shots Golf, and Spelunky.
Persona 4: Golden was the correct choice!
Not sure if you like shooters, but get Killzone: Mercenary. Also Tearaway. Tearaway is a fantastic experience that shouldn't be missed.
I like those guys, really awesome artstyle as usual too.
