So I got the console and played the first hour or so of Last of Us (gorgeous) but being so late to the party I have some questions:

-Can you turn off the ps3 while it is downloading games so it keeps downloading them in standby mode? (I want to dl Demon's Souls while I sleep)

-My fingers slip off the R2L2 buttons all the time, is there any good grip or something like that?

I'll ask more questions as they come to me.

1. No, you can't download while in standby mode
2. There are third-party attachments available you can click on your L2R2 for more grip, check Amazon or your retailer of choice.

No but you can set it turn off automatically after it downloads and installs the game.

Get Super Stardush HD! You will not regret it, it is such a fun game.

Buy persona 3 fes, then find some way to play persona 4 (on Vita perhaps?), the buy persona 4 arena, then wait in anticipation for persona 5 with the rest of us.

Played Persona 2 and 3 on psp and didn't like them so I'll pass on P4, P4A and P5 (I'm getting Q day 1 though) :p

I loved all of Naughty Dogs games, tales of graces f, tales of Xillia, resistsnce trilogy, infamous collection, and metal gear solid legacy collection. And god of war saga of course.

Love my ps4, but definitely miss my ps3. Especially avi playback ;(

You have to shut off via the XMB while a download is in progress.

1. Start a download.
2. Press the PS button if you're in game.
3. Go to the left most column, Users.
4. Select "Turn off system'.
5. Check the box to continue downloads before the system shuts off.

Thanks, I'll look for that option and do that then.

Just try turning it off through the XMB while downloading something and it will ask if you want to make it turn off automatically.

Infamous 2 does not disappoint. I would recommend skipping the first game, but it does have some cool story choices that can be carried over to Infamous 2. Uncharted is all quality. Killzone 2 and 3 are awesome. Resistance as a whole is average at best. Heavy Rain is flawed but unique and is worth it for the experience. Jak trilogy is still awesome. Art style makes the game still look good, which is awesome

I was going to create a thread but I saw this luckily so..

I want to get a PS3, I know its very late into the cycle but I regret missing it last gen and want to play some exclusive games as i've decided to get a PS4 over the Xbox One as my primary console next I thought I owed it to myself to play these games. Now to my luck my Uncle has a 320GB slim boxed at home that he never uses so he's letting me borrow it in a couple of weeks.

The games I could think of were:

The last of Us
Ratchet and Clank HD collection, Tools of Destruction, Crack in Time, into Nexus - loved the first game on PS2 and want to play rest.
Jak and Daxter Trilogy - Never played any
Sly Trilogy - Never played any
Uncharted Trilogy - Never played
Ni No Kuni - Not really into JRPG but love ghibli
Infamous 1&2
Splinter Cell Trilogy - to replay them in HD
Folklore - played the demo years ago and seemed cool, loved the music

Anything i'm missing? Not too interested in Heavy Rain or Beyond Two Souls.

Obviously i'll be getting PS+ right away, been envious of the insane deals forever now being a xbox live gold member.

Anything I need to know really? Never had a PS3 so.. I will have to spend time updating software and long instals I know but any tips of things to take note? Also i'd like to get a PS4 controller ready and if its superior quality why not, but I understand it won't work with all PS3 games is that right?

why has noone recommended Catherine? I don't own a PS3 and haven't played the game, but I'm thinking about buying one for christmas and this game would be the first I play.

am I wrong?

Its great, but those games are only free for 14 days. After that, you have to start paying money to keep them. And they will go away as soon as your subscription runs out.

Honestly, PS+ is less useful starting now than it was before. Lots of people have accrued a large library of games that they can still play, but you will be stuck with what they put out from now on and there will be less and less focus on PS3 as time goes on.

Its still great if you trust that there will be games you're interested in playing will be released, but I don't know if it'd be worth it for me, since I'm only interested in the exclusives(and only some of those, at that).

That said, I think I'm gonna sell the PS3 I just got. I hate the controller with a passion and after playing GTAV for about 20 minutes, I realized that the sub 30fps framerate was going to seriously drive me crazy, so I turned it off.

I really wanted to play Demons Souls, but I'm not sure its worth putting more money into this and not selling before X-mas, where I'll probably have the best chance of selling at a reasonable price. Oh well! Got plenty of other stuff to play.

The PS3 offers so many great games, you are in for a treat. :)

If you like racing games then Gran Turismo 6 is just around the corner. (I hope it's good)

TPP/TPS? The Last of Us, Uncharted 2/3, Metal Gear Solid 4, Infamous 1 (the atmosphere in this game is so cool) and Infamous 2 (not as cool, but somehow a better game IMO),

You just want to kick some ass? God of War 3
Indie? Flower, Journey, Super Stardust HD
Platformer? Puppeteer, Little Big Planet 2

Also, Heavy Rain and Beyond Two Souls if you like film-like experiences in games.

I'm was in the same boat last week and decided to get the PS3 500GB + Assasins Creed 4 + The Last Of Us bundle after only having a 360 this generation.
The backlog is just amazing! The PSN store was overwhelming with so many classics to choose from. Plus that the DVD upscaling and Blu-Ray playback is great compared to the cheapo Blu-Ray player I had.

So far I purchased:

The Last Of Us
Ass. Creed 4
Journey Collector's Edition (including Flow and Flower)
GRID2 + Guacamelee (came with PS+ this month)
Ni No Kuni

I cannot recommend you Wipeout HD strongly enough. :)

Warhawk was freaking awesome! But I don't think the servers will have people anymore :(

I have only one piece of advice.
Play the Uncharted series on easy, it's about story more than gameplay.
ANYONE telling you to ignore Uncharted 1, should be ignored.

Oh, no they do. I get in full 32 player servers every night.

Uncharted on Easy? Did people really have that much trouble with the game on Normal? C'mon man!

The game has "ok" gameplay, sometimes quite great, sometimes NOT so great.
Considering it's purely 100% an awesome Indiana Jones movie experience, I'd say drop the difficulty to avoid the shitty sections.

Can you finish it on Hard? Sure. What's more fun? Easy -especially if he's new to the PS3 and just needs to churn through 25 awesome games.

This thread makes me relict how good the PS3 exclusives are. Sogood.gif

I bought one on launch day...and honestly I probably only used it as a Blu Ray player the first 4 years I had it. I gamed almost exclusively on the 360. The PS3 didn't really come through for me until the last couple of years..and man did they ever deliver on the games, whereas Microsoft really faded once they shipped Kinect.

Its a great console, lots of great first party stuff and there's no shame in jumping on the bandwagon right now if your wallet isn't ready for next gen.

So I go to tun off the system and it says its doing downloads / updates will turn off automatically.. I look and I have GT5, Battlefield 3 and some sword and shield game downloading? Any idea or reason why??
