My guess is that an initial first playthrough MIGHT take upwards of 8-10 hours where you're exploring, speaking with NPCs and solving puzzles. This is per Episode of course. Either way, it'll be $20 well spent for me per system I buy it for XP

It's $20 on gog.com, cheaper than Steam atm.

It'll still be available when I'll want to play it, why would I buy it now?

Can't decide if I should play it now or wait for the second part and play it then.

This. There's no real need to pre-order a game unless it's really limited.

First review by German magazine GamersGlobal: 8/10 (they call it a “score trend” because it's only the first half of the game, they'll update the score once the second episode is out)

The first half of Broken Sword 5 is a on overly promising and atmospheric opener. The story is thrilling, the dialogues are very amusing and the graphics are gorgeous, despite a few minor flaws. Most notably George and Nico regained old top form again and have about the same amount of participation in the game again. If the second half kept this level and brought the story to a complete conclusion, this could become the best game in the series. But it won't hurt if the puzzles get more challenging.

Btw, the percentage value you see on your savegames is based on both halves of the game and not only the first episode. Beta is 8 % of the entire game, which takes about 1-1,5 hours to complete. That would make up a total playtime of 12-18 hours. But if you take your time and click every hotspot 2-3 times to listen to really all lines and talk to each character countless times to hear everything, you need easily over two hours for the Beta (it took me 2h15m). You have to know, for each hotspot they have recorded at least 2 different lines.

8-10 hours total doesn't sound too bad for the full game IMO.

Is it bad that this is like one of my most anticipated games of the year? Dumb question. So, is this episodic? If so, is there any way to buy the entire season? I gave enough hints to my family to just buy me steam gift cards for Christmas this year, so I can't wait. I'll be LTTP, but, hell yeah, a new Broken Sword game sounds awesome. Do they have the original voice actors for this?

It's the only game in the series that I never got to play.

You can get the season pass from gog.com for $20 atm, which gives you Episodes 1 and 2.
Also nothing wrong with being hype for this game. I only wayched the intro of the game from one or two 'let's plays' and ya know how Broken Sword 1 started? [spoiler]Same thing here![spoiler]
The Season pass is also on Steam but is more than gog.com's offering.

Very glad to know.I was kinda worried that they would not make an extra effect like they always do because of low budget compared to other kickstarter projects.

Rolf Saxon is back as George Stobbart, as if they could replace him with anyone else. He's as integral to the Broken Sword experience as Michael Ironside is to Splint... oh wait. Never mind.

Nico seemingly has a different voice actress every game.

Hm didn't read up about the game, is it back to P&C style? I stopped playing for extremely fast the mix of direct control and P&C was just horrible IMO ( I may gibe it another try as long as there aren't infuriating QTE like in 3, oh and people just have to play 3 to see some really bad boob movement on Nico).

Art style looks again more in line with 1+2. Will probably buy it sometimes if the reception is decent.

Would they even be able to release 3 and 4 without remaking the games from scratch? They don't own the engines for those 2? 1 and 2 would be quite easy for them to release though.

If this is true,PS 4 have the potential to become the dream console for adventure game lovers. The last console with sufficient adventure games is Wii I think.

It took me 47 minutes to beat the beta/demo according to Steam. And then I skipped some conversation topics because I got a bit impatient.

The animations were uneven, sometimes very stiff, sometimes really really good. And there were some strange pauses in the conversations.

Everything else, and I really mean everything, was really really good.

I'd much rather they do it like Monkey Island did by having both the original and remakes.
Though this might make dealing with save data a problem.

Woah, woah, hold it, that's a bold statement you make there.

Indeed Revolution said "maybe" on Twitter, but I highly doubt they'll release all BS games on PS4.
I'm pretty sure they'll look into a PS4 port of BS5 first and I'm confident it'll be released next year on PS4. MAYBE they'll also re-release BS 1&2 but I highly doubt it. About BS 3&4, well 3 is highly unlikely, but would be possible (they used the RenderWare engine for this game). BS4 is pretty much a given that it won't come to PS4 because they don't have the source code for this game. It was developed by an external studio (Sumo Digital) back then.

Today Charles Cecil sent out another Dev Diary via mail to backers and he said, we should make some noise with the hashtag #BrokenSword5 on Twitter. So tweet away guys :P

In the recent newsletter they say that you can choose between a GoG and a Steam code. I thought Tony said we were getting both?

Edit: Just saw that he clarified his statement. We need to choose indeed. Now someone needs to tell me how I get my save file from the Steam beta to the GoG game.

No RenderWare support for PS4 though since it became a 'dead' engine sometime after EA bought Criterion. If they had the means to port BS3, then I would have thought they'd release it on Mac, iPhone and Android already?

Most modern games store save files in the same place regardless of where you bought it.

I don't think beta save files carry over into the full game though.

Backers over a certain amount were actually supposed to get a beta, not a demo. Didn't happen, obviously.

I agree that the demo should be available for everyone. But since it's not, this will work: BS5 plays identically to BS1, only at 720p instead of 640x480. Also, without the hand-drawn art.

Honestly, just matching BS1 means this could be one of the best adventure games in years. I'm pretty excited for the 4th.

Don't worry, they should work without a problem. Savegames are stored on Windows in your Documents folder and I'm pretty sure the GOG version uses the same directory.

I'll get the Steam version because I'll get a DRM-free DVD version next year anyway. Also there will be Steam achievements for this game.

You're right. They've stated numerous times that it's very difficult to port the 3D games to other platforms and that it's probably not worth the effort.

They are aware of this and will most likely release a real Demo for everyone some time after the release.

For those worried that the game is only in 720p, from the newest developer diary:

The resolution will be 720p to ensure that the game works on as wide a range of hardware as possible – we do plan to offer a free downloadable pack with 1080p resolution assets soon.

Sweet. :)
