I played a lot of this on the 360 and recently got the vita version and I put in a few tries daily. Amazing game. Love it. We should get a thread up to discuss the daily challenges. The OT seems pretty dead.

Who else loves spelunky?

Yeah, I keep having to Tear myself Away from Spelunky to go beat Tearaway(which I did and I'm glad I did, everyone should, don't let it stay in your backlog).

That's not to say I'm very good, I've played about 5 hours of it and only made it to the jungle 3 times. Spelunky is awesome though.

Haven't played it much lately, but yeah it is a pretty good game. It kind of reminds me of bomber man for some reason.

Bought it 3 times, still play every day.

Though I've been slacking on my progress to beat Hell. Only got there once.

Love it and play it frequently. Still not very good at it & in a weird way I think that's the appeal. Hear me out.

The death/restart cycle is so tight & so fast to recover, it removes the fear of failure. Sure you're still gutted when your run gets cut short & you have to re-start, but literally 2 seconds later you're back in with a fresh world. No unskippable cutscenes, no plot BS, no "I'd better stop now as I don't have time to reach the next checkpoint", no wedged in new game mechanic or shitty area that frustrates you, just game rules you pick up in 5 seconds and how you move around. It's a beautiful, beautiful game.

The sheer amount of constant pressure your under negates the actual pressure compared to other games. I don't want to die in Bioshock Infinate (for example) and then have to do 15 minutes of progress again to reach the same part, and then maybe fuck it up again.

I put over 100hrs into it when it came out on PC, and then took a big long break from it. I started using playing again a few days ago.

Seriously.

Only just got into it a short while ago, I was loving the trial but when they added the fix and daily challenges I had to get it.

I've never ever been a fan of caves in games so it took a good vita trial for me to take the plunge despite all the good impressions. And it's still mostly caves, but damn is it fun. Awesome platforming mechanics are so solid and have a lot of depth to them. You feel really helpless at first, lasting for only short distances but you get better. And you get further despite each playthrough being completely different to the last, even if also familiar. So many neat aspects and things you could run into and discover as well (saw a bunch on part of a video - something called an eggplant run - spoiler warning, I guess, it's an article with the video though). Still have a long way to go. I usually make it to near the end of the jungle on a good run now.

Anyway, today's daily run started off so well to end in an epic fail for me, right after I bought some items. Still suck, but slowly getting better. I feel like I'm cheating by using the tunnels...especially when using the tunnels to unlock more tunnels. Too much practice without working for it if you know what I mean. Still not stopping me, want to accelerate my learning for sure.

I'm really glad I bought it on the Vita, because if i bought it on Steam I would've played it for 5 minutes and never played it again. It takes some getting used to but I really enjoy the risk/reward gameplay, it's like a 2d platforming version of Dark Souls on crack.

I'm way into it at the moment. I'm at the point now where I can get to and beat Olmec most of the time. Hell on the other hand, is a different story.

Send me an invite on steam if you're looking for some competition on the daily leaderboards.

I had to quit after finally beating the game normally because every time I wanted to do a quick 2 runs it ended up being a quick 20-30 runs. Still have it installed on my Vita in case I ever want to attempt hell, but exercising some self control to not play it lol

I must've entered HELL over 10 times since 360 launch, and never beat it yet.
The final final final boss is crazy stressful, even when I got a perfect game going (jetpack).

Excellent game. I want a sequel.

Fell in love with the free version. The 360 version then just blew my mind. I have played way too much of this game and cant quit. :/

My 9 year old niece absolutely LOVES it too. We beat the regular boss in co op a few days ago for the first time, we had only made it there together once before. She didnt make it to the boss level herself (died in last stage of the Temple) but was sooo nervous watching me play it and was super goddamn impressed when I beat it. It was kinda adorable. :D

She is starting to get better at it too. She can make it to the jungles alone quite often and brags to me if I am not around to see it. I love this game. :D :D

I love Spelunky. I'm pretty sure it's the perfect game. I played tons of it on 360 but still never beat it, personally my best achievement was unlocking the temple shortcut. I bought it also for vita and pc, but really haven't played too much since, since I have too many other games. My wife also loves it, though she's not that good. If I was to choose one game for a desert island it would be Spelunky. Even though I'm not that great at it my respect for it is limitless.

Once you get better you go through the levels quicker, don't need to take your time as much, adds a lot to it I think. I've seen it's even possible to learn the ghost's movement patterns, he's pretty slow - although I tried it myself today and didn't last long. You can even kill him (very slowly) in the lava stage.

Spelunky would be a great pick indeed. I was actually thinking about that a few weeks back before I got into Spelunky and I couldn't pick but I was leaning towards LBP on Vita.

I was completely obsessed with the original version when it came out for a long time. I've played this remake quite a bit but not nearly as much as the other. A friend of mine has gotten into and is slowly getting me back into it more.

I must have played like hundred hours in the original Spelunky. I bought Spelunky 'HD' in the steam sale a few days ago, and it's still really good. Some of the changes really fucked me up a few times, though (not being able to crawl over the ledge of an arrow trap to set them off safely, being able to accidently hurt the damsel with your whip, etc.).

I love spelunky. Watching some of the people on YT really helped my game. Things like the shotgun jump and best practices to kill shopkeepers. Oh and that sticky bombs go through wooden ledges... That is key for the ankh in the black market.

I love the game, but in a weird way. I don't play it very much because I suck at it, but I love watching streams on twitch.

Bananasaurus Rex is the best Spelunky player to watch. He even solo'd an eggplant run the other night (on top of killing the ghost legitimately).

I also have the 360 version but I also have a PS3 and just bought a Vita. Been thinking about double dipping for the sweet portable action and the daily challenge. I was kind of hoping for a sale during BF or Xmas. I have $20 just sitting in my PSN wallet.
