Just wondering, do any GAFfer's own any rare *new* and *sealed* copies of games?
Was just checking e-bay and 1 game I have sealed seems to be getting more and more expensive.
Probably won't sell it cause it's not that much in the grand scheme of things...

Though yeah, any of you people have stuff like this? :P

I had NiGHTS for Saturn in the big box factory sealed, sold it for $70 a while back.

I also have a copy of Windows 3.1 sealed with a giant sticker on it that says NEW, but that's hardly relevant.

Nope. The closest I have is a sealed collector's edition of Kingdom Hearts: Dream, Drop, Distance because Amazon sent my order twice by mistake. New copies of it are going from $130 on Amazon right now.
As for my other copy I opened it and the crystal case is on my 3DS right now.

I have tons of sealed games

The real question is "how rare are they?"

I mean I have a sealed Terranigma, a sealed Illusion of Time and a sealed Secrets of Evermore

Ocarina of Time/Master Quest WW preorder disc, though some searching a couple of years back seemed to indicate that it wasn't worth all that much.

Sometimes I don't open a game if I don't know when I will play it -- if it's immediately backlogged.

Although this has bit me in the ass.
I got a copy of DQ8 for PS2 from Best Buy at one point when it was on sale. About a year and a half later, I finally opened it up to play it. And somehow, someone had removed the disc and put it back on the shelf looking sealed. That sucked.

But normally it works out. I bought some SMT games for PS2 (Devil Summoner 1 and 2 maybe) which I never got around to playing and realized I probably wouldn't for a long time and didn't have the interest level for them. So they got sold for over $100 each. I was happy with that considering I paid about $15 for them.

TL;DR: Yes, I keep games sealed until I decide to play them, in most cases.

I've never been good at collecting. I would rather get use out of something and enjoy it then keep it wrapped up for potential future investment. That's just me though. I've had really rare Vinyl before that were sealed, and I ended up taking them out and spinning them. I don't regret it.

I have a sealed copy of Paper Mario for N64, though I don't know if it's actually rare or worth anything.

I also have sealed copies of FFX-2 and Suikoden Tactics. Both of those I found really cheap, like in the 10$ range, and never got around to playing.

I have Halo 2 Limited edition steelbook still in shrink wrap, MA15+ Australian version. I never had an Xbox until I got a 360 in 2008, but I just borrowed Halo 2 from my brother and kept mine sealed. It isn't especially rare I think, but it looks amazing and feels so chunky and perfect. Most steelbook cases rust.

Speaking of which, how do you guys keep your steelbook cases from rusting? My Bioshock is actually eroding some of the paint!!! Do we have a thread on how to maintain this stuff, like re-wrapping it? Cheers.

Oh yeah, I had the Pokémon games from gen 2 onwards in perfect condition, but some little shit crushed them. Also had Oracle of Seasons and Ages. Same fucking thing. Pisses me off.

Videogames are such a volatile market. You can't even trust an Atlus release to guarantee a rise in price anymore.

The fun thing about having rare games is when a company like GamesQuestDirect prints new copies, officially, often with no clear distinction the copy is a second print run.

Then it gets hilarious when you try to sell your backlog on a place like Half.com, and they intentionally undercut your price on a game to sell their reprinted stock. So you're getting into a pricing battle against someone who can legitimately make their own copies at production/licensing cost.

Don't know if they still do it.

Sadly I sold off my older sealed Snes games a long time ago when I needed money. I had FF3, Secret of Mana and Chrono Trigger all sealed. I got good money for them and was desperate to pay bills so had no choice really :(

Only thing I have now is Ni No Kuni Wizards edition sealed. And the not so rare at all GTA IV that came with the safety deposit box - still sealed as well.

I have a factory sealed mint condition copy of Tetris up for sale right now on Amazon for the going rate if that counts. Its not tengen but its a pretty rare deal to get a factory sealed mint Tetris of any kind.

From the yellowing on the hanger's adhesive area to the particular style of shrinkwrapping and its wrinkling, all the way to the lack of any hinge fade or whitening its 100% mint sealed and authenticated.

I own a factory sealed review copy of Dragon Warrior 7. Sadly the only thing that indicates its a review copy is the hole punched though the UPC. Plus, one of the discs came lose, which can't be good for value.

If you ever get a PS2 again, Raidou 2 was reprinted so you can play it guilt-free!

(but you should probably keep the LE sealed)

Otherwise I eventually open all of my games. I do have a sealed copy of FF7, though I don't think that's rare. Oh and Earthworm Jim 2 on the Saturn.

I got rid of most of my collection but I did have all of these sealed.

Dead Space LE Xbox (the one that was only available from EA's website)
Splinter Cell Chaos Theory LE Xbox
Futurama Xbox
MGS3 Subsistance LE PS3

I got rid of them as I stopped collecting games a few years ago.
