If yes then let me try to be a little more sympathetic. I've been there before bro, I'm sure many of us have. Well, maybe not in person but I'm sure many of us have experienced that online. You just get so mind fucked that you forget to do simple things like anti air jump ins and punished blocked point blank sweeps that are -14 on block(OMG -14 lol).
Don't worry, I know you would body that guy in a FT10 if you had time to settle down and was was consulted. But you didn't so thanks for the entertainment buddy lolz. Well, if that actually was you.
Lol yeah, tournament jitters are tough, and stream jitters are even worse. Hope he wasn't too hard on himself after.Originally Posted by Rice-Eater

RIP in peace Huw.
Being serious though, sounds like you had a meh experience overall. Don't sweat it too much.
But offline, bro? Pressure of being on stream must've gotten to him.
I think we are spoiled by "good" play and not get enough wild and overwhelmed play.
That's classic, you try to play your game like you are playing against a "normal" adversary, but you can't play like that against random. We've all been through this, only not on stream, not with more than 5k people watching and not for 3 straight matchesOriginally Posted by MiniBossBattle
Its nice to see the level of play I use on stream. Seriously, stuff like that can throw you off. Ghandi has amazing brain-melting tactics and just randomed Huw with offense then jump back and fireballs.

Thats how I play Yang. No one expects the triple overhead.Originally Posted by Horseress

It worked. Then he threw him once after all the wakeup DP. Also, if your opponent lets you sweep without punish, why stop? Also, that jump-in double MP was amazing. Is it really a "tacitc" to just mash jab/DP if you clearly don't know any better? It's not like we saw Ghandi adjust when FSP finally started punishing him.
Who let the beast out?
Uh, clearly you missed the throw he mixed into his wake-up gameIs it really a "tacitc" to just mash jab/DP if you clearly don't know any better? It's not like we saw Ghandi adjust when FSP finally started punishing him.
He must've read Justin Wong's advice column about "What to do when you've been downloaded"

That's right, until the very end of the last match, he only did srk and hadouken motions, because he was saving the throw for the end! dem mind games man #mindblowingOriginally Posted by ViewtifulJC

Wow...this Ryu is... You must've really been mindfucked HUW. D= The commentators are killing me though.Originally Posted by Parallax Scroll

Executing things is more important than knowing things. Ryu player executed things but didn't know, Rufus player knew things but didn't execute, and the few things he did execute were mitigated by things like getting hit by j.rh cr.rh a million times and not punishing the sweep once he finally started blocking. Both players came off really poor in that set, just in different ways.Originally Posted by Kimosabae

-Knew Combos: Showcased basic BnBs for his character implying an understanding of the necessity of maximizing damage opportunities. Another fundamental aspect of high level play.
- Sparingly Used Reversals: Understands the danger of being predictable with reversals. Used them sparingly. In this case, FSP took unneeded pressure and left damage on the table because Ghandi did not display this fundamental understanding.
Could FADC > Ultra: Knew how to land his character's Ultra. A fundamental necessity at high level play.
Should I go on? Why are people trying so hard?
Most of the damage from that set came from stray hits, which Ghandi dominated in, but Huw started to make up for it a bit by finally baiting DPs, but that's the only time got a large amount of damage at once after the first game besides from the FADC ultra. Ghandi also dominated the air. He wasn't completely random either. There was definitely some baits and thinking going on, just in a very crudely intuitive "I don't know how to fucking play this game very well and IDGAF" kind of way.
Anyway I could go on but I feel kind of bad for Huw here, lol. I think we've all lost to that sort of play at some point or another, but most of us were lucky enough to not do it when it's being streamed to thousands of people.

Shoutouts to NeoGaf!
Daigod buffed shoryukens, also he did something that i hadnt seen before: Standing Roundhouse to catch neutral and back jumps after pressure.
DAIGOD
He isn't going to get one with that shit, no worries.Originally Posted by Lost Fragment

Besides, if I gave HUW a tag, I'd have to give everyone else in this thread a tag for being free themselves and not actually showing up on stream or at events.

Hello! I'm FairlySadPanda, AKA FSP. I got bodied by a random online Ryu, who is a proper nice guy from Jersey.Originally Posted by ViewtifulJC

Just to be clear here, I got mindfucked. Ryu is also a bogey matchup for me. But I should have beat that guy, I am extremely angry about it, and that is never happening again.
This forum.
"Daigo has adopted a new playstyle fitting his nickname of the Beast. Its just so amazing after all these years he's still showing us new things. What a (sexy) man, that Daigo Umehara."I think back to Seth Killian speaking poetry about Daigo's playstyle at EVO. Daigo is done with that soft shit.
I want to see you use this as inspiration to step your shit up and body people all across Europe.Originally Posted by Huw_Dawson

Shoutouts to Starnab btw, who I had a laugh with after the Ghandi match. He mirrored the advice of a few other people I talked to. FGs are all about a mindset, and if you don't have a proper mindset you will just get bopped for free by everyone.
FWIW, I made that entire Dreamhack trip on my own. Liverpool to Jönköping by myself. A train, two flights and a coach each way. To a country I've never been before, and flying for the first time in my life. And I slept on a cold floor for three nights and a hotel room for one.
The fact that I'm this bad and I work harder than so many other people to get to FGC events is mind boggling to me.
EDIT: BTW that Daigo DP madness was so much better seeing it in real life. F-Word broke down on commentary. It was glorious to behold.
"That guy could've just blocked"
These statements need some qualification.
Trying to identify low or high level play is ultimately only relevant when a player looks inwards for improvement. At a tournament match, there is a winner and a loser and how they get there really doesn't matter. That said, the circumstances of a win/loss matters quite a lot to a person who is trying to improve as a player and grow their knowledge.
"Why stop if it works"
If something is working, you should keep doing it. There are two exceptions to this. 1) You're trying to learn something so you deviate from your previous success. 2) You're attempting to read your opponent's possible adaptation with your own. In short, screw around in casuals, play serious in tournaments.
"That guy could've just blocked"
Yup, he could've. He chose not to, and that sucks. We can assume he chose not to for a reason, though. Perhaps he felt the throw was coming and it just didn't. Perhaps he attempted a reversal or backdash but messed up the input. He was aware of other options and chose those. Bad reads.
-insert personal agenda-
Wouldn't it be great if there were a game where it was harder to succeed with only "dumb" stuff? A game where there are enough defensive options that choosing not to reversal doesn't necessarily mean becoming the attacker's bitch? A game where your character doesn't shackle you into particular forms of mixups?
Yeah, that'd be great.
I hope they don't take away Sim's faster lk drill in the final build! It may be reverted for now but could still make it back in. Combo told me all the drills were faster in a previous version but that they were all supposed to be reverted, he was surprised that lk drill was still sped up. It was so fun though! It can already be used as a safe jump in many matchups but with it being faster it's even better. With Dhalsim doing more damage and having more range on flame and having better lk drill, he can actually play some pretty annoying offense imo.

That was what was going through my head for most of the match. Online play sees a LOT of wakeup throw attempts at the level I play at.
Yea all drills with speed up would be so good! And I don't even think it would be too good! With so many buffs getting thrown around, did Peter say why Dhalsim's drills were reverted back (and why his u2 now has been reverted too?). What is your honest opinion? Do you think Capcom wants to avoid making Sim strong in this game because so many people hate him, so they would rather have him too weak?Originally Posted by UltraDavid
Scrub busting was always really hard for me, it's definitely a skill to be acquired in the same way beating a top level player is something to be acquired.

Didn't get much Sim play on stream, at least from what I watched. =(Originally Posted by UltraDavid

The buffs in general looked like a serious boon to most characters. I wish we could've seen a wider spread of chars but at least the ones we saw looked great.
