Why even argue this? It's for PS4 and Xbox One new owners only since the consoles have only been out a few weeks.

Am in love with the new DS4, best controller I've used. Also PSN has worked really well for me, have had nothing to complain.

The new Lego game is really good, I'm enjoying it a lot. Resogun is also great.

I have no complaints really, the UI is already fast and streaming your games is easy and thing's will just get better from here.

The only console I've got is the PS4 and here's my experience so far:

I bought AC4 on sale at Amazon, upgraded it to the PS4 version, downloaded, and installed then fired it up and played it for awhile.

I did all of this while 4 states away from my PS4 via my phone/Vita.

I have been to the top of the Next Gen mountain and it was good.

PS4:

+ Love the new controller.
+ UI is much more attractive and user friendly.
+ The share button is genius.
+ Installs are quick and painless.
+ Trophy system with rarity % is very cool.
+ More goodies in online store (like F2P games).
- Packed-in headset is horrible.
- First party games are disappointing.
- PSN has been sort of unreliable since launch.

Xbox One:
+ Super quiet console.
+ Much stronger exclusive titles.
+ Snap feature is very cool.
+ Xbox Live has been very stable.
- Controller is a step back, bumpers are horrible.
- UI is cluttered and confusing. Watching tutorial videos is a must.
- Achievement system isn't as attractive.
- Friend feed is poorly designed and does not show your own activity.
- Friends active on Xbox 360 looks funky mixed in with the rest.

Overall I'm enjoying the PS4 much more.

PS4's been good so far. No issues with the hardware whatsoever. Really liking the UI quite a bit. There is room for improvement (friends list filtering options, for one) but as a starting point I am quite pleased.

Game-wise, there's a lot that I haven't gotten around to yet but Resogun is indeed awesome and I really enjoyed Knack, which I recently finished.

PS4
Day 1, all I had to do was unplug all of the various cables from the back of my PS3 and plug them all into the PS4. Probably the easiest new gen set up I've ever done. I think it took about 30 minutes to get everything configured, downloaded and installed, and then I was playing Killzone Shadow Fall. I'm a big Killzone fan who doesn't bother with MP, and I was totally satisfied. Played through the campaign twice over the launch weekend and then I started AC4 on Monday. Just finished it last night, in fact. I had no intention of ever playing it, thanks to AC3, but it was pretty good. It was clearly a PS3 game tarted up a bit, and I didn't fall in love with it as I did with AC2, and the story took forever to become remotely interesting. But I had a good time with it. The Dualshock 4 isn't as radically different as I assumed it would be from looking at it. It feels like a DS with a few minor differences. I love how fast the PS4 does everything.

XBone
For the first time, I am seriously questioning my practice of automatically grabbing new gen consoles at launch (which has been my standard practice since the 16-bit era.) I've never regretted it until now, not even with the WiiU. I had no enthusiasm whatsoever as I unpacked the Xbone and set it up... which was a pain in the ass. I didn't know until I took it out of the box that it cannot stand vertically, it has to lay flat and therefore has a humongous footprint on the shelf. I didn't really have any room for it, so I had to make do and improvise, I ended up putting it up top next to the TV but I have no intention of leaving it there. Once it was set up I logged into XBL and configured everything. Then I put in Ryse. It said it was installing, but it said "0%" for at least 10 minutes, and I was starting to think something was wrong. I checked on it every few minutes, but it always said 0%. Eventually I decided to just forget about it for a while and see what happens. About an hour later I checked and Ryse was finally installed. I played it for a few minutes but just couldn't get into it. I had no real intention of getting into it anyway, because I was already playing AC4 and I only play new release at a time. But now I'm done with AC4, and I have no intention of going back to Ryse any time soon. I haven't really touched the Xbone since then. Not sure when I will. I have a feeling this gen is going to be the opposite of last gen: When a game is cross platform, I'll get the PS4 version. The only Xbone games I'll bother with are exclusives.

Having had both as long as possible, I have to say that a VERY much prefer the PlayStation 4, which is the exact opposite as last generation (I only played the PS3 for the major exclusives), when I played nearly everything on the 360.

On the PlayStation 4, I've really enjoyed how quick and snappy everything is. Updates are fast, the UI is easy to navigate and laid out in a logical fashion, the games look amazing, the DS4 has been dramatically improved, and the online experience has been great.

On the other hand, I've been pretty upset with the Xbox One. It's quite slow and cumbersome in comparison. Updates/installs take an eternity (1 hour and 12 minutes for NBA2k12 is NOT acceptable), the interface is a mess, Kinect is my newfound nemesis with it's piece of crap voice recognition (60% accuracy on a good day), and I don't like the bumpers on the new controller. Heck, even navigating around the dashboard is done at a low framerate and it lags. How do you screw that up so bad?!

Also, VOICE CHAT ON THE XBOX ONE IS BUGGIER THAN A RAINFOREST. Half the time people in your party forget to enable voice chat, the other half struggle to get it to pipe through their headset instead of Kinect, so it sounds like an echo chamber. Nothing is more fun than 5 minutes of "is my voice coming through the headset mic, or still the Kinect?" tests before starting up your game. Real cool.

And to steal from my own my rant on the Xbox One UI...

I don’t like the Kinect at this point. Sure, maybe I’ll get better as time goes on, but as it is now, using Kinect is embarrassing, even when you’re sitting alone in your gaming room. If you really want to feel stupid, show your wife how “cool” the Kinect is and watch as she laughs at your “kind of neat if it worked well” $500 console.

Resorting to controller is almost preferable to using Kinect. Almost. The way that everything is “organized” on the Xbox One is beyond stupid. Random tiles flip around in place and there’s no cohesion to the style nor experience from one page to the next. I get that you can pin your favorites in place, but any time you veer from your favorites, you better fire up Google Maps, because THE SEARCH IS ON.

tl;dr: I'm really happy with the PS4 so far, but I'm really irked by the Xbox One at nearly every turn. Microsoft goofed, and they better rally and turn things around before they become nothing more than a media box this generation with a random exclusive worth playing once or twice a year.

Loving the XB1, especially the instant switching and voice controls.

My wife especially loves the voice controls, as a stay at home mom of a 2 month old nursing infant and a 2 year old toddler, not having to worry about where the remote is to put on sesame street, turn volume down, etc has been very convenient for her.

One thing I would love to see implemented is a first party OTA tuner for cable cutters..... there are currently solutions, but they are not very sexy.

Loving all the games I picked up (BF4, DR3, NFS, Zoo Tycoon, Ryse), especially Ryse, great fun and the combat system is incredibly rewarding when done right.

For any gaffers that have a toddlers, Zoo Tycoon is the ultimate family game, watching your kids face light up when he sees a monkey "playing: peekaboo with him is priceless.

I am getting REALLY interested in AC4, I never followed the AC series, but I did get into the unique MP aspects of Brotherhood (that was the only AC game I purchased, although I only ever really played the MP portion). I am loving what I am seeing from the boat exploration and naval battle sequences...... As an AC newbie, will I be lost in what's going on?

So, out of the new recently released consoles for me as of this writing:

PS4
- No real complaints on my end about the system. Its exactly what I was hoping for in a "next gen system"...I love the DS4, I love the OS, the UI, I love the little aesthetic lights...its just fantastic.
- As someone who does not game on PC, the 1080p has been a nice improvement in resolution and some of the games have absolutely blown me away (Killzone), and even if others have not (Ghosts) they are still pretty too look at.
- I can't wait for NHL 15

XBone
- I haven't opened it yet since I bought it for my sister for Xmas and will crack it open when I see her (we live in different cities)
- My impressions of the controller and games at the demo event were not good, I was not impressed with graphics of the games or the controller itself. Not to my liking.
- I am hopeful these impressions will change with viewing on a better HDTV, and more time getting used to controller

Missing an integral app like Youtube seems pretty endemic to stuff just not being ready in time for the launch.

Also, the main thing I got the console for, the suspend/resume feature not being ready at launch is another sign that if they held off for another 3 months it would allow them to include more of the promised features in the launch UI as well as maybe give some of these developers more time with the final spec hardware to finish up their games.

Then we wouldn't have ACIV and COD: Ghosts launching at non-native resolution and maybe it would have allowed DICE to release BF4 as a 1080p game instead of 900p. DICE even stated they planned to delay the game so in my heart of hearts I believe that the 900p is a time compromise thing and if they had a couple more months and didn't have to worry about beating COD to market, the game we received would have been much better for it.

Not that impressed with the graphics as a whole, due to me being a PC gamer, but it's impressive to see a console pull off that kind of image quality and resolution.

So you wanted SONY to delay the console for six months to fix something they already fixed in a couple of days? Even six months from now there were always going to be issues.

Anyway, regarding the DS4 battery, i have not had a control die on me but reading bout it has made me really paranoid lol, i'm also really paranoid about the sticks disintegrating on my and i find myself constantly looking down at my stick(no pun intended).

I have two controllers so battery is not an issue for me but i still keep one controller conected to the console at all times and now i'm worried the battery will die faster becasue of that.

Edit: so it's not just me noticing the battery life on the controller. I thought it was just because I'm playing more. I have charged it twice in 2 weeks. But I only played like 5 hours total

Eh, you're wrong about that, but ok. The Wii U is graphically "last generation" but it's a current generation console. It's actively supported, and it's the latest platform from a major console manufacturer. It's a current gen console by definition.

If they fixed the missing suspend/resume feature then I stand corrected. If not, then yes they should have delayed the release until all the shit they promised would be available on day one was. Stuff like Gaikai streaming was never given a hard date of availability but the suspend/resume thing was something that was delayed at the last minute. Not to mention bluray playback having to be patched in and DLNA not being available at launch. I also have a feeling MP3 playback was something that got cut in the interest of time as well as to push their shitty music service. But what the hell, I'm having fun with the thing and a lot of the missing features like DLNA and certain apps can be accessed on my HTPC so suspend/resume is really the only missing thing that chaps my ass.

I had a bumpy start with my PS4... Had 1 or 2 issues. But since them I've been wowed. The games look great, the Dualshock 4 is god tier to me. Remote play works brilliantly (I wanted it mainly for the times my GF wants to watch some dodgy TV... EastEnders for example). And it has Resogun. Glorious Resogun. My first PS3, PSP & Vita games were Super Stardust, so it felt right to play its spiritual successor on PS4. I'm actually loving it more than SS. Fantastic.
Even cross-gen games are wowing me! Battlefield & FIFA look great. The thought of what games will look like a couple of years down the line has me extremely excited.

All in all I couldn't be happier.

Loving the XBone experience. The concept of it being always on is interesting. Apps like Netflix or Hulu+ for example or even the last game you were playing is just there instead of switching to another device. The best way to describe it would be like changing tv channels. Its that seamless of experience. Wish more PS4 fans would check it out before dismissing because its pretty cool.

So far my PS4 is amazing.

- OS is super Snappy

- UI is simple which is love.

- Killzone SF, Knack, BF4, Resogun are beautiful and fun.

- Multi tasking works like a dream.

- the DS4 is simply the best controller i have ever used. (apart from the battery life) perfect.

- the only thing i would like is the bit-rate improved on streaming.

I don't know, i'm still not comfortable leaving my PS4 on standby, i don't know how i'd feel about having it on all the time the TV is on, my main TV and gaming area is my living room, the way i designed my house we spend 80% of our time around that area and the TV is on for hours every day. I'd be afraid of my consle crapping out on me.

About that Share button, i find myself using it A LOT, more than i ever expected, i've already tweeted like 4 pics and uploaded like 4 videos to my facebook account in the three days i've had the console. Such an awesome feature, i will probably get the PS Camera today lol. I uploaded a clip of my son and i playing Knack, i was watching it earlier and focused on his character, it's so amazing to be able to do something like that and that it works so smoothly.

Hey, I don't own stock in Sony. I give zero fucks about their income. I'm just saying what I feel as a consumer who purchased something for a feature I wanted that was not present at launch. If they felt releasing the system without that feature was a valid course of action which they did, that's their choice. Doesn't stop me from being disappointed that it's not there at launch when it was my most highly anticipated feature. Still having fun with the thing and I'm pretty sure Sony is counting that 1 million plus sold cash and saying it was worth it to release now so it really doesn't matter in the big scheme of things.

Random thoughts on my PS4 (which, overall, I'm happy with)

- wish there was a media remote

- my suspicions that I'd prefer the 360 UI to whatever Sony came up with were confirmed

- my suspicions that I'd have trouble adapting to the DualShock4 were unfounded

- being able to watch other peoples livestreams is very cool

- cannot wait for Gaikai. I'd be having 10,000% more fun with this machine if the games that were available on the Vita store were available on PS4

- remote play is great. I NEED a port of XCOM for it.

It's "neat" for a little while, and then you realize that you don't really swap between those activities all that often. You play a game for a couple of hours or you watch a movie. You watch some TV or TV shows, or you stream some crap on Twitch. You don't really jump around all that much unless you're just jumping around like that to show how you can.

It's not bad functionality, you just don't use it all that much. The snap stuff is neat, I do like that, but again, its novelty wears off when you realize that you'd rather just do one activity well instead of two activities with divided attention.

PS4 owner. Very satisfied. I have played Killzone, Battlefield, Resogun, ACIV:Black Flag, and Warframe.

-Pros
  • Games run and look smooth. Full 1080P (besides Battlefield) looks on awesome on a big TV.
  • System runs great and installation time is wonderful compared to Xbox 360/PS3 (and apparently Xbone)
  • Playstation Plus
  • Controller feels great and the triggers are down right awesome.
  • UI is simplistic, fresh, and relaxing.
  • Multitasking is fast and smooth.

Basically a pure gaming console.

-Cons
  • Why can we not customize the UI? Hopefully Sony allows this in an update.
  • While the UI is simplistic and fresh, navigating can be is counterintuitive.
  • Two usb ports for a pure gaming console? What about headphone support and charging? Certainly couldn't be that hard to include two more ports smh.
  • 500GB is not enough imo. I would've gladly paid $50 more for a 1TB inside. (Minor gripe)
  • Controller battery life is bad compared to the DS3. Sony, you need to update the DS4 battery now.
  • Disc drive can be noisy when the game is running at first. (It does get quieter after the game finishes installing). Fans are louder than I want it to be as well. (Minor gripe)

These cons don't outweigh the pros considering this is a launch console opinion.

For what the PS4 is worth and the potential it has along with support from Sony, I give the PS4 a solid 8/10.

for an 'ease of use' system using 2012 gfx parts, it's a good platform at $399.

I have serious doubts about its ability to maintain any graphical fidelity into the future (read: 4-8 years down the line). PC games just look significantly better already. BF4 does look decent enough right now though, so I may be quibbling.

But, from an ease of use POV (read: the OS, just plopping in and updating and installing games, etc), it is nice. Also, the controller is fantastic overall.

Planing to get an XBone down the road. But I have a question:
If you're watching TV with it do you still need to power on your cable receiver?
If yes, wouldn't that make the TV feature pretty much useless or at least cost intensive from a power standpoint?

PS4's PDM is really something to admire. Sony really did focused the interface around games. Everything about the game is fluid and very responsive.

You start downloading it from the store, and the update (when there's one) starts automatically at the same time. Then it installs everything on it's own, when it's ready. It's a huge leap from XMB. Updates and intalls are terrible on the PS3.

And the option to start playing while it downloads is very nice. Sometimes you get just a little bit of gameplay, but it's better than nothing. For example, in FIFA 14, when it reaches about 2GB you can start playing a friendly final match some league that I don't remember (Barcelona x Real Madrid).

So far, so good. But there's room for a lot of improvement. I'm expecting the possibility to organize games in albums, just like the PS3 (it's important when you have 100+ games), and also some download management tools.

I really liked the PS4 for about two weeks. It works, it's fast, and the games look nice. But now the games have dried up until March or whatever, so I've put the thing back in the box and gone back to my PS3 because there's no backwards compatibility, which, by the way, is still bullshit.

But, from an ease of use POV (read: the OS, just plopping in and updating and installing games, etc), it is nice. Also, the controller is fantastic overall.

I sort of feel the same way but at the same time think we are going to get some surprises once developers, especially Sony's internal teams get a hang of the hardware. Playing ACIV on my PC on a slightly overclocked GTX 680 with nearly everything maxed out and 2X TXAA provides such an improvement over the PS4 version that I was shocked. And the image quality in BF4 on PS4 is not as great as the image quality and performance of BF3 on my rig and I'm sure BF4 would perform pretty similarly.

But for $399 and the ease of use compared to some of the issues I ran into like the ACIVBF.exe is not responding error I was getting on ACIV before turning off cloud save syncing in UPlay I'm ok with games not looking as great as my PC that cost a decent amount more money. Plus I'll be getting most multiplatform titles on PC outside of a few multiplayer games to play with my console folks so I'll mostly be getting stuff from Sony's internal team who will provide some pretty damn impressive games once they really get into the guts of the system.

I have been to the top of the Next Gen mountain and it was good.

Damn, that is outright remarkable!

Yes you do need your cable/sat receiver on. "Xbox On" turns on everything. As far a power is concerned, its variable depending on what the xbone is doing just like the PS4 would be. TV pass through or streaming netflix is probable using very little power while launching a game will draw more power. I just believe more folks need to check it out. All my family member I've shown it to over the holiday where blown away. From the walking in the room and it greets you by name to calling out tv channels by voice. Its defiantly a showstopper for those not up on the technology and gadget stuff.

I love my PS4 so far, but I cannot believe how many features it's missing. How can it not have a download history? That one feature being missing has caused me quite the headache this weekend.

I have a facebook chat room with 6 friends I had made through playing video games 10 or so years ago. Most were excited for the new gen stuff, arguing for months over what system everyone should get so that the team would still be playing together. The PS4 was finally decided upon. All the while, I am telling them not to get anything because both suck, especially at launch. I just tell them all to take that money and upgrade their computers. Of course, the hype gets to them and they don't listen. 2 weeks later, the name of the chat has been changed to fuck next gen gaming and everyone is just playing DOTA again all day. Also, Ryse is terrible. That is my experience.

I like my new console a lot, but I think I'm still in the honeymoon phase. At the moment it looks like a very promising investment, especially the graphics are better than expected.

It's been 50/50 good and disappointing, it just seems very rushed at this point with so many unsupported features and peripherals.
If I had to do it over again I would wait.

Xbox One was a good console in the week I owned it, Particuarly liked the snap feature, Playing Fifa whilst watching football in the corner was cool, Liked when Kinect worked with my voice but wasn't 100% and led to embarrassment repeating things.

Ryse was good, But as for next gen feeling im someone that hasn't played a Battlefield game and when I played 32v 32 conquest and got 33 kills in a level where a building collapsed with me standing on the opposite path watching it then quickly saying " xbox record that " then id say that was pretty much next gen for me.

I'm getting the ps4 tomorrow so if you could all get off the servers off psn then id be gratefull then I'll share my next gen feelings with that :D.

watched someone play a car game in hmv today, might have been forza, it had arrows on the ground I guess showing the best route to drive.

looked like a 360 game but was real smooth like 60fps. my two cents. hope you enjoyed my in depth review

I really like the PS4 so far. I've been playing Resogun and AC4, both great games. Knack was ok. It was not worth a purchase though, but it was a decent rental.

I just wish Sony would improve the PSN interface though. There is no demo section, no game videos section either. The menus are also very redundant. I don't need 10 ways to reach an item, just give me one efficient way to do it.

I like the idea that I can be playing online KZ within about 2 mins from standby. It actually makes me more likely to play

Overall speed to the system is brilliant

PS4
- Very close to perfection.
- I love how the store is built in and just how fast and snappy everything is. Go to the home screen while in a App or game and there is no visible lag and jump right back in instantly.
- Controller is the new standard to live up to. Pretty much perfect in every way.
- It feels like a power games machine that happens to do some extra media functions. It's exactly what I want in a game system.

XB1
- Kinect doesn't always work
- Clunky and laggy interface
- Controller is improved but I hate the clicky d-pad and bumpers
- Feels like games are a secondary ability while pushing TV, multimedia and other functions

I'm not trying to be a Sony fanboy here but I have very little positive to say about the XB1 so far. It's plenty capable but Sony just seems to have nailed it.

Code:

PS4:
	- Interface is really fast.
	- PSN Store is just as fast (guess the old design was a strain on the PS3 hardware).
	- Controller is top-notch.
	- Killzone
		- Gorgeous.
		- Mercenary was a better game.
	- Resogun
		- Gorgeous.
		- Save the last humans.
	- NFS Rivals
		- Fun as hell.

Wii U is staying busy. (Well, relatively busy- most of my consoles gather dust while the PC sees all the action) Can't comment on the UI and features too much since all I tend to do on it is just click play on whatever title I'm playing at the moment, be it SM3DW, W101, Rayman or Pikmin for the time being.

Launch day PS4 is in a box in my closet, awaiting the decision to either keep it or ship it back to Amazon. I preordered it within seconds of the preorder going live on Amazon in case I wanted one by launch, but there just isn't much here to convince me to keep it. I feel obligated to play the games of the zeitgeist as I always do just to refine my thoughts on the medium, even if I expect to hate them, but that's a decent chunk o change and time to do so. I'll try to play Resogun at a friend's house before deciding as I'm pretty sure I'll end up getting one before a price drop anyways for Destiny or something. (If they really are going to insist on keeping Destiny console exclusive)

I haven't purchased an XB1, but kind of wish the tables were turned between it and the PS4 as it does have launch titles I'm somewhat interested in. (Namely KI and Zoo Tycoon, of all things)

Only picked up the PS4 so far, no one I know has the Xbox 1, but for the PS4 I'm really enjoying it. Like always near the end of a console generation I really lean into PC gaming and this one was no different. I had been heavily playing my PC the past few years but now I've been using my PS4 a ton.

Coming from PC gaming I really enjoy the digital installs allowing me to play within 10-15 minutes, and I also love the speed of switching between things. Really like being able to double tap the PS button to switch back and forth between last used apps. The controller is a big improvement even though I already liked the DS3. But it was an eye opener to go back to the DS3 (showing a friend Last of Us) and seeing how much nicer the DS4 is.

I also really enjoy the 3.5mm audio port on the controller, I picked up a 4 position to 2x 3 position adapter to I can use my PC gaming headset on PS4 and it works perfect. When I'm playing multi I pump all audio through the headset and I can hear people fine and don't have to worry that my sound will bleed over.

Games look really nice, I've already beat 4 games (BF4, Ghosts, Knack, and Killzone). I really enjoyed Knack, played it a ton. Killzone was ok, but the multiplayer has been a lot of fun. Working on BF4 multi right now, I haven't had too many crashes, also have it for PC so I'm already used to it.
