I absolutely hate that watching this video on my computer managed to turn on my Xbox :( Whatever happened to Kinect knowing who is talking? Ok granted that's probably pretty tough in the standby mode.. but even then, this video had my Xbox trying to do other commands.Watch the frustration live.

because Microsoft are idiots and for some reason think changing stuff that already worked pretty fucking great on the 360 for the worse is what consumers want.I actually prefer the 360 pop-up guide. It's so much simpler. I don't know why Microsoft insists on making everything an app. I hardly look at my achievements anymore, it's just too time consuming and breaks immersion. Also, why isn't there a battery life indicator anymore?
They built the UI to be used with voice commands. It's basically the same problem that people had/have with windows 8 start screen on the desktop. It's built for touch screen input.
In the process, traditional controls suffer.

They could've just gone with the 360 UI and made it a bit more streamlined and quicker. That would've been good enough for most here. It's really baffling they messed this up when they're a software company.Originally Posted by SlickShoesRUCrazy

Metro needs to die.
I think Sony went for Function over Fashion with the PS4, and MS the latter for sure.Aye, both consoles have terrible UI that needs a lot of polish and improvements.
Although at least PS4 has some kind of idea of what it wants to do and look like while finding rhyme or reason in X1 interface is not as easy.
Xbox One is a great Interface it just feels "Top Heavy" the entire time you use is, even in game it can stutter for no-reason and you just know it is the OS that is causing it.
The PS4 is simple and less flashy for sure, but it is quick and it works, also installing is alot faster on the PS4 I mean Ryse took near minutes to play, Killzone took less than?
I think Voice On both is Good, Xbox has far more but I find that aside certain functions (Xbox On, Xbox Turn Off, Xbox Home) everything seems to take 2 attempts to work.
I think they both launched earlier than they should have but that said MS will change this OS completely within the next year and cut back to give more back to the machine, snapping in game is great, but give me the 10% GPU back and loose it (like the PS4 does by just stopping the render to screen).
Xbox One Os = Clunky
Ps4 OS = Light
and as I have both consoles I am unbiased, but these are just MOP
it doesn't have to die. As somebody that uses a windows phone and a surface, and quite happy with them, it has it's place. It's freaking great on the right devices. They could've just gone with the 360 UI and made it a bit more streamlined and quicker. That would've been good enough for most here. It works perfectly fine on the 360 because you have the quick guide menu for key shit that should be built/cohesive in the OS, which the xb1 UI lacks.
the xb1, everything is treated like an app and that's why voice controls are faster then traditional input. Problem is, they are stupid to assume that all people want to use voice controls.
who ever thought your friends list, achievements, creating party and shit like that should be treated like an app instead of built in and unified in the OS is quite disconnected.
You forgot the hideous installs!Originally Posted by madmackem
Theyve went backwards with a few things with this console, the party stuff the sticks and bumpers on the pad, the whole ui is a massive fucking chore to navigate. If i miss an invite tough titty have to ask for a second one, who thought this was a good idea. Its all down to them pushing metro and there push to make everything an app within the machine. Achievements are worse now. just why fuck with things that worked before it doesnt make sense.
Windows 8/8.1 are actually pretty great if you give it a chance. To me it is the same as Windows 7 but with more options (Snapping/Apps etc). I have rarely in my life seen people use the normal start screen in windows (at least not since windows 95 or whatever). They either use their desktop-screen or the search function in the start-bar, which still works the same. But that might not be why you dislike it so much.I'm not baffled. The previous major product release from MS was Windows 8.
I'm sure with time they will be able to fix a lot of the issues. I remember the Music app being absolutely terrible in the beginning on Windows 8. But now it works flawlessly for me if you don't need a shitload of options (with 8.1 they btw added the play-to function with the app). If you do dislike it; just use a regular desktop version of the program you need.
I really hope they mainly focus on issues that give people problems using the Xbox One and then put more manpower into making it all more functional. I'm guessing it is now much easier though, to put different teams on improving different aspects of the console, since a lot of them are now separate apps.
Maybe it would be great if MS gave us the option to add an x-amount of apps to your home screen as tabs on the XB1. So instead of just: PINS - HOME - STORE, you could also add a tab FRIENDS which would behave a little bit different than the standard app, because it needs to be integraded in the homescreen, but has all the most important features. I'm not sure if this is either possible or has already been mentioned, but I feel like this could really make it much more controller friendly, besides the regular use of pins.
So what if I didn't want to use voice? If I have a controller with the system I expect the interface to support it and provide a certain level of usability. If you use voice, it is the easiest , fastest os to ever use on a big screen let alone control my entire tv/game/entertainment room
