Anyways, come on guys it is just someone speaking their mind, which is what GAF is for. He isn't anyone who has a crystal ball about the future of Nintendo, same goes for Jason Rubin. Unless he has insider knowledge or deep understanding of Nintendo's business then his post is worth just as much as every other person who posts here. (And he even admitted that he was saying crazy talk)
I was thinking the same thing. I have a Wii, loved the Galaxy games and would play 3D World if I owned a Wii U but, on the whole, I don't think the general UK public do give a shit about Mario now that the Wii buzz is well and truly dead.If he's talking about the UK, he's really not wrong.
I'm talking about the UK, to be clear.Originally Posted by chris121580
Super Mario 3D World is better than any launch game for either console. I bought the PS4 and have spent more time on my Wii U since I bought Mario than on my PS4. There was nothing stupid about their idea to launch the game alongside those consoles. It's been sold out pretty much every store I've gone to. I'll be interested to see the numbers
Anyway, great games don't automatically sell well, even Mario ones. You need to give it the room to breath and shine and stand out, which you can't do when as you're releasing it all the public can see is "NEW PLAYSTATION OUT NOW". Especially in Britain, which Sony ruled with an iron fist for a good decade.
I think the major problem is install base. I think if the console wasn't selling like crap, releasing opposite the PS4 (or the Xbone) would have been a-OK, but that's not the case.
You missed some games. Namely the best game of the year not named Dota 2.I give a shit. Mario 3D World was an absolute delight to play co-op in.
As for Little Deviants, uh..... :\
Gotta say though, up until 3D World arrived, my Wii U had been turned off for about 10 months straight. But Between Mario 3D World and Wind Waker HD, I've been playing my Wii U more the last few weeks than my XB1 or PS4.
For a lot of gamers it seems they want to be on the winning team more then anything else. quality be damned.Well, he may not be wrong, but if this industry really doesn't give a shit about Mario, then the whole console scene can die in a fire by next Christmas for all I care. I'm not sure why people are becoming increasingly spiteful towards Nintendo as their sales performance worsens; there isn't some ratio between sales and quality that validates all the hatred being spewed their direction.
Ah ok, sorry...I didn't realize you were referring to the UK. That makes more senseOriginally Posted by Hot Coldman

It's quoting a random GAF post and making news out of it, even though they could have picked any post. You don't need to work in the industry to be knowledgable about the industry, in fact I think that there are dozens of people on the net more educated in certain areas than people working in the industry
The whole OP doesn't state anything new, it's basically the same news we had for a few hours now and I think the entire post isn't ideal for a fruitful discussion
Him being the dev behind a bomba game is a priceless coincidence though, that I must admit
Yeah the spite pisses me off and I just don't get it. There's always so much hate toward Nintendo when they're doing badly. As the single standing remnant of the beginning of the gaming industry, you'd think everyone would always root for them, but people can't wait to turn on them and hope to piss on their grave. It's really bizarre.Well, he may not be wrong, but if this industry really doesn't give a shit about Mario, then the whole console scene can die in a fire by next Christmas for all I care. That's true. But to count the system out on a whole before it reaches it's enivable sales sweet spot is shortsighted at best, foolhardy at worst. Those games have had long legs usually because the consoles they are on sell at an equally steady rate. Recent figures seem to suggest the Wii-U is only consistent in selling badly.
Super Mario 3D Land, Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Zelda, none of these are going to do great numbers if the console doesn't shift a hell of a lot more units. To have been overtaken in LTD by two consoles that have barely been out 3 weeks is embarassing.
I know I make a lot of jokes about WiiU fire sales, but let's get serious for a minute, the WiiU hasn't hit 250 dollars yet (outside of sales). It hasn't hit the point where it becomes an impulse buy for people on the fence. Talking about them throwing in the towel before that point is just silly.
But yes, it's up to Nintendo to get people to understand what the WiiU actually is before any of that stuff sells 10 million. But they still have time to do that, or at the very least, make it a system that's appealing to gamers who have 5:1 attach rates or higher. I highly doubt they'll win this generation, but I don't see them bowing out for some time either. Their IP's are system sellers, they just need to, you know, prepare more than 1 in a year.
I think 2015 is the year that Nintendo is forced to make a WiiU full on pokemon game. I don't think they can let the fire of that property just push the 3DS anymore.
To be fair, only 2 of those have actually been announced.Originally Posted by Japanmanx3

I wouldn't get excited about a new Star Fox game until they announce who's developing.
It sells just fine on 3DS, so people obviously do still care about it. The system is the problem. Nintendo never gave anyone a reason to buy it over PS3/360 last year.People can keep using it as a crouch, but, this guy's previous work has nothing to do with whether or not what he's saying is accurate.
If people still gave as much of a shit about Mario as they used to, it would have sold as well as it used to. It's sad, but, hard to ignore that the interest isn't as big as it used to be.
opinions are fun.You missed some games. Namely the best game of the year not named Dota 2.
Not as much as they're making now even with a failing console. Those licensing fees, man.
Anyway, I hope this guys right! I will probably never buy a WIIU, but I would love to play the new Mario... I could only imagine how many millions of dollars Nintendo would gain if they released Mario on all consoles.
Like I said before, what does the game he formally made have anything to do with the statements he made about Nintendo? This is getting out of control now. Ad hominem all up in this piece.Originally Posted by Linkin Park

Kart and smash did nothing for the Gamecube. Its not gonna magicaly make the wiiU a best seller.Until Mario Kart and Smash aren't released, no one should predict anything. Heck, Nintendo might even turn it around like they did with the 3DS. Everyone needs to just calm down and see how things unfold rather than say "Nintendoomed"
I know this will never happen but man i would be happy :P
