£719.99 for a PS4 bundle.

This is what you get for your money:

PS4, PS Vita (WiFi and 3G Enabled), Extra Dual Shock 4 controller, Killzone Shadow Fall, NBA 2014, Just Dance 2014 & £25 Playstation Network Card

Notice they raised the price from £629.99 for the bundle to £719.99 and it includes two games that no one wants (NBA 2014, Just Dance).

Fuck forcing people to buy shit games in order to get the console and while I love the Vita myself, including it to shift dead stock (3G unit) is not fair on the consumer.

Horrible company.

No problem with them, free but slow shipping.
You can grab some good deals too, especially 2 for 25.

Price isn't that bad. Someone will want those games. They're a business and need to shift stock. People are buying it. The previous price was actually really low.

Any of those.

Companies bundle products to rise above razor thin profit margins. Shocking. I can't believe that they're forcing you to purchase from them, though, that just seems outrageous.

They're a business using basic economic principles. Sometimes they have great deals, this time they're looking to make some money from high demand and low supply. Nobody has to bite. I don't think it makes them a horrible company.

They are one of few places that has stock and are putting it into a bundle for £720, and they raised the price from £630 to £720, which is clearly profiteering. Zavvi should leave that stuff to the likes of CEX.

I actually find them much more reliable than other shops, I buy a lot from them and the only time my package got lost it was instantly refunded.

Also they had an error on the shop around two months ago and I bought GTAV+Killer is Dead for ~30€ thinking they would cancel the order, but they didnt so I feel like I have a little debt with them >.>

People are paying 700-800 Euro here on EBAY for the Console / the Killzone Bundle!

if you really want one then that's still a bargain for around 790 Euro I guess?

BTW: I love thehut, they are actually the same crew afaik and I'm glad I get cheap UK imports from them without shipping fees within the EU borders, which is quite amazing! -Cause I tend to have to pay 3-10 Euro for shipping from german retailers and they're just around the corner...

Pretty shitty alright. One of the chains of stores here in Ireland tried to force people who had preordered an Xbox One to buy another game before the store would hand over their pre order, even if they had already paid in full and whether they had ordered a game with the console beforehand.

They were found out of course and reported to the National Consumer Agency and had to issue a statement that they wouldn't repeat the practice for PS4, despite staff indicating beforehand that such a policy was planned.

Listen, I don't doubt it's a shitty practice, but I do take issue with this idea of consumers being "forced" to buy from them. Yes low stock is an issue everywhere but if you were planning to buy a PS4 then unless you've been living under a rock you'd have known that stock would be incredibly scarce around launch date due to record pre-orders. If you feel the price is outrageous one of the great benefits of a capitalist system is choice and competition. Save your money and wait to buy from vendors who won't enforce similar practices. If you can't be patient then like most hotly demanded items be prepared to pay a premium to scalpers. You may not like it, but there is always a choice not to buy.

Horrible site. Purchased MGS HD collection LE from them a few years back. Packed it in a paper thin box and came in looking like a car gone through a trash compactor. I requested for a refund, and to this day they haven't done shit for me. I even asked for a phone number to call them at, and they can't even get that correct either.

I would be HAPPY to show off some screenshots of my stressful conversation with their service rep if needed. Fucking hate this company.

So you thought they were a non-profit company?

I mean really. What are you complaining about? They are one of the few that got stock. And there is quite some demand. So they raise prices. How dare they do that.
Just wait until demand is going down (after x-mas) and voila, prices will go down too.

EDIT: Out of like hundreds of orders, exactly one got "lost". Lost in quotes, because it actually showed up. And right before that, they shipped the same item another time. So actually no problems at all. And their shipping is way way faster now. Most of the time it's a week at most.

I remember when I got my Wii near launch I had pre-ordered just the system at a local shop in Glasgow. I was on a waiting list for a few weeks. When it finally came in they tried to force me to buy one of the shitty launch games nobody wanted with it, even though that wasn't what I signed up for. That's bad business.

Thankfully I convinced them to let me take TP and an extra Remote, which I wanted anyway.

For what it's worth, they're not the only company to do it. GAME, Sainsburys, ShopTo... they're all holding back PS4 stock to sell as bundles to maximise profit. It's shitty for customers, but it makes them more money. From their business perspective, you can't blame them really.

I actually got a standard PS4 from Zavvi and it was delivered on the day (albeit at 7:00pm via Yodel.... urgh)

This is one of the things some retail establishments do when they have a game system they can't keep on the shelves. Since the margins on hardware are sometimes small, and in a supply-constrained situation people are more likely to just grab the system and bolt, they refuse to sell the system to you unless you also buy software with it.

Same thing happened when the Wii came out. The store I got the Wii from wouldn't let me buy without getting a game with it, and I worked there.

It totally sucks, but it's not unheard of.

They're a terrible company when things go wrong, they just so happened to be cheap for a good while so became a pretty big company. They're not actually as cheap as they used to be now though so it's hard to justify using them when there are better companies out there who sell for the same price or cheaper.

Just pray and hope that you don't have to deal with their customer service, most of whom don't seem to understand plain English (or purposely acting dense). When you're asking for one thing, they'll give you a completely different answer.

Also, their price is more expensive than Amazon UK so if possible, it's recommended to wait until they have their firesale.

What? You may not want NBA and JD but loads of people do, so it's hardly fair to say that they're forcing people to buy shit games. It's cheaper to buy everything separately, but if this bundle draws some desperate people away from buying PS4s on ebay for £500+ then it's not a massive deal.

Yes, you can choose not to buy it but it seems like they're not stocking non-bundle "copies" of the system which is crap. Places were doing that in the US too where their $700 bundle is in stock if you want a PS4 but no "normal" units are in stock at all, it's bullshit.

If people want to blow £700 on a newly released console from an online store that can be hit or miss, they'll have only themselves to blame.

The difference is that they are putting in very undesirable games, the bundles from Game and others seem to include titles that people might like (BF, NFS, FIFA etc...) or can trade quite easily, this is NBA (Basketball is hardly the most popular sport in the UK) and Just Dance. They are clearing out stock and overcharging people for it. Sony should step it up and tell the Hut Group to sort it out.

That's really the issue. If they included games that people wanted and charged a high price I would sort of understand, but I don't see someone who buys a Killzone bundle also wanting to get JD.

Lucky you. I do and it's nerve-wrecking everytime I receive one packaged in their flimsy tiny cardboard box. And then there's the likelihood that the package never arrived at all, like my Castlevania steelbook. I dread having to deal with their customer service for this.

Like I said it's a shitty practice. The only issue I had with the OP is the idea that consumers are being forced to buy from Zavvi. This isn't some communist system where there is only one shop that sells PS4's. Yes stock is low, but there's a reason that Zavvi still have any stock at all and that's because of this outrageously expensive bundle. Otherwise they'd be sold out like everywhere. OP is right to call out this as a shitty practice and right to vote with his wallet and his mouth. The only issue I had were the semantics which suggested that consumers were being forced into this. We aren't.

I agree that using the word forced was overegging it a bit, apologies. Just wanted to call them out publicly tbh.

When it comes to CEX and others, yes I'm not a fan, but they pay over market price for units and they do risk their own money, so if Sony do suddenly put in a big shipment and availability rises to decent levels, CEX lose out big time. My issue is that for Zavvi, ripping people off is a risk-free option because in the same scenario they can just sell these units at the normal price.
