When you buy Aghanins Scepter, Valve personally comes to your house and delivers you the fifth blue controller
And the creator of Rez comes and makes them all vibrate...

Using hero skills could perhaps be done with a controller in most cases, but the speed and precision required to (for instance) last hit creeps would be problematic. I think the main issue is that -just like RTS- dota requires so much jumping around the map to see how other lanes are doing that mapping camera movement to a stick will never be as fast as clicking on a minimap.
Dota/lol in it's current state would never work well with a controller, unless they redesign major aspects of it to work on a console.

I think you guys are getting to worked up over nothing.
There are reasons for dota likes not being on consoles, way beyond the mere control scheme alone (it is a major player in that though), I think.

Mainly, it is a pc genre. Console guys know nothing about it, the audience is not there at all. In fact, the majority of the moba playerbase comes from countries where the console presence is almost if not zero.
It would be like trying to sell wii fit or just dance to the PC world.

And, it is not like these games are technically demanding at all, you could play them on a laptop if you really wanted.
And everyone has a laptop these days.

And still you can't see why it wouldn't work on a console without plugging M&KB in or changing the game drastically?

Player base adoption is never the issue, if the game is good and has high replayability; players will always catch up to it. (no matter what platform)

Some time ago, not many played Dota (and dota like) games. Right now, even some good FPS/CS players I know personally stopped playing their FPS/CS games and started playing Dota 2.

Cleverly introducing such a game on the consoles, *will* have audience.

I'll even go so far as to tell that Dota 2 released on the consoles, with
.Separation between PC and console community

Will mostly do well, if
.Marketed correctly
.Has the same microtransaction method valve has implemented for Dota 2
(which is: just having microtransaction for cosmetic items and not gameplay elements)

Back to the game controls, I think It can be done (with some elements redesigned). I can already imagine myself playing with a controller, it'd be a game I would play on a console..definitely.

Note: I have been playing Dota on a PC from a long time, since 6.21.

DotA2 wouldn't work, just play Herzog Zwei on Genesis, it's the first MOBA and it's still the best one on consoles anyways.
