I'll have to chime in as an Iranian myself and say we beat South Korea in our Quali pool and got first place. And we even beat them home and away, so we're definitely a better team than them and not really comparable to freaking Honduras and Costa Rica like the OP suggests :|

As an Australian, perhaps the on the big stage our performances will improve, but we have had our ass handed to us in two friendly games again Brazil and France in very recent times. So, I fear that we won't have a great campaign.
That being said, we could get smashed in two of our pool games, but ultimately the campaign will be successful (not just in my eyes) if we somehow got paired up with England and we managed to beat them.

Brazil is my favorite for the World Cup. The only position you could argue they lack strength is center forward and perhaps in goal. They also have the advantage of playing in front of a home crowd.
I don't think Spain will prevail, some of the key players are getting on in years (Xavi, Xabi Alonso.) One could also question the hunger they have after two European Championships and one World Cup.
