There will still be lots of great games not designed by MBAs employed by giant corporations. Heck, I have three fantastic newish games on the go right now.

edit: and many multiplayer games seem to be resistant to the non-purely-cosmetic types of microtransactions, so there are those as well.

While I'm leaning towards believing them, taking into account the gtplanet feedback about the economy being the same, isn't this the standard response towards microtransactions?

No.

Some games I won't pick up, others I might pick up cheap down the line and others I'll avoid like the plague. Thats just me though, and its on a case by case basis.

What's really important is that people know these things exist before they buy the game. It may matter a lot or a little or not at all.

When I look at GT6 and Forza 5 I see the same disease but with Forza having a much more advanced stage of development. They both have the bad kind of microtransactions, but one has evolved its structure to encourage more expenditures at higher prices. GT6 is just getting started.

I am so glad I decided to skip this game. If this is the future model then I could careless when GT7 comes out. I am sorry but this whole making grind intoleratble to get people to spend more money makes me sick. I don't care if the grind is the same as GT5. That grind was to much and I just gave up on it. I won't support any game that has this model of making a extremely long grind so they can sell in game money.

Are they just begging for hackers to get that DLC free by releasing this game on the PS3?

Yup as far as MT goes its a good model.

But nothing to say GT7 will keep this model, I am willing to bet it doesn't tbh. (guess we will be waiting a long time to see how that pans out)

Also it could be that they implemented this feature late in development which is why it doesn't have much impact on the game. (assuming the first impressions are to be believed)

I'm assuming you spend in-game credits to get the DLC cars, but you still don't have to spend real money on them. As for the brand/game being damaged, that's pretty subjective. I was merely commenting on the actual game content itself, which is unchanged.

GT5 had so much free DLC! It was kind of crazy. All those extra cars and features in free spec updates.

If anything PD has been extremely generous to its fans. That is why actual GT fans don't care about MT.

GT5 had a thread titled "We love DLC" and it wasn't even ironic ;P

Hell yes, I bought most of what GT5 put out too. Loved the new tracks.

Actual GT fans, what are you babbling about? GT fans like myself have enjoyed the series for years, what were concerned with is charging for silly things like in game currency by making the progress slow and tedious for those who don't want to pay. Some free to play games do this as do many IOS games. We are also worried about what may lie ahead for micro transactions.

Then surely we can expect all Forza players to hit a wall, cave in and start paying to progress sometime soon?

I understand that considering what happened with DLC in the last generation some might me wary over the widespread of microtransactions but we need to be able to understand that there are different models of DLC as there are and will be even more different models of MT. Wow, so much misinformation in this thread. AFAIK they made it even EASIER to earn credits in the game. Absolutely nothing is being locked away from the player/made harder to earn. Also, unlike Forza 5 there is nowhere in game where you can directly buy credits/asked to buy credits. It's an option for lazy people, nothing that has changed the game in any way shape or form. Believe me if they were making you pay money for a specific car or changed the economy in any way shape or form for the worse I'd cancel my pre-order, as it is they haven't changed anything. They just added an option for lazy people. There are NO microtransactions in Gran Turismo 6. It is merely an option on the PS store to buy credits for use within the game.

I'm not. I'm against microtransactions for access to the basic game content on disk, and for advancement.

Give me new content and we can talk ;P

I've bought car DLC and track DLC and visual customizations and expansions. I'm all for that stuff. Hell, give me more Splinter Cell Conviction missions too while we're at it.

People are saying its the same or its easier, but aren't there new costs too, like with all the new upgrades? Do you pay to repair damage? I guess we'll be able to get more details soon enough once people start snapping screens.

Or is there a real comparison out there thats more than gut feelings?

This is like Stockholm Syndrome the thread. It's amazing how the gaming industry has trained it's customers into chumps and lose perspective by changing thing slowly on a slippery slope. I see no difference between the housewife playing skinnerboxes on facebook and iphone to core gamers who support this shit.

Ah well atleast we have indie games, hopefully they'll remain a oasis from this shit.

Can't talk for everyone but I don't support and I won't be supporting this the same way as I never supported season passes, online passes or day one DLC, this by not buying them. As long as video game companies keep giving me the option to play the game without resorting to their MT scheme I'll keep buying and enjoying their games. As soon as MT start creeping over the game design giving competitive advantages for MT buying users over non-buying users, then I'll react accordingly.

There are a number of people on the gtplanet forums who got ahold of the game early who have gotten into specifics, as well as several others on there (and a couple journalists) who have just quickly addressed it, but everyone who has been hands-on with the game has said that you earn credits through play at about the same speed as in Gt5, if not quicker. That's current GT5, which doles out credits more liberally than launch Gt5 did.

I haven't seen anyone really drill down deep into the numbers yet across dozens of hours of play. Also, there is a 1.01 patch that will be out tomorrow, and maybe the economy will be altered in that patch.

While the early signs I've seen have been encouraging, for me, there is still too much left unknown or unconfirmed to make a solid judgment just yet.

Why do they have to be so expensive?

I don't care if they sell points or whatever as long as it doesn't change the game mechanics, but £100+ for a car!! Make it a couple of pounds per car or a £20 unlock for all cars.

These prices look like an over-zealous GAFer who believes "cheating" ruins the precious integrity of game playing rather than a business plan to continue a revenue stream after the initial sale.

Down, R2, R1, L1, O, L2

To unlock 5 additional characters, press UP, Triangle, DOWN, X, LEFT, L1, RIGHT, R1 at the title screen. If entered correctly, the title should read: "Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Battle 27"! "

Now they offer you cheats for real money. Why not just throw in a cheat option that gives you a list with cheats you can enable without having to go through a paywall?

This will only get exploited over time more and more, there is nothing fun when your friend that is rich has everything day 1 unlocked because he just bought for a insane amount of money every point he needed directly, while you sit there with a paywall driving around in a turd of a car while your mate just runs circles around you.

But instead you can look at this nice message you get "only 2 more weeks to grind that car, have fun !"

micro-transaction, dlc to online passes, once you get rid of one, it appears in another form. The one thing that will not change is the $60 entry price.

Yeah but that's a free to play game. Good luck not destroying your brand and sinking your entire company by implementing microtranscations in your $60 game.

You're actually agreeing with me then, because you are treating them equally - hence my point. I am not demonizing all microtransactions, nor am I giving them all my blessing. But IMO these are two very similar practices (IE, saving time by 'buying' progression) and should be addressed as such. Not showing any favoritism one way or the other.

Sorry, but I disagree with you there - I still think these are essentially two sides of the same coin (no pun intended). Justifying one as being 'better' because one game 'integrates' its microtransactions while the other may take 1 or 2 extra button presses to purchase is trivial distinction at best - they are both designed with the same goal in mind, pay to progress. Now, whether or not you feel that is good or bad, I suppose, is up to each player. In my eyes, it's wrong, no matter what the game, because it devalues the experience. But I'm still playing forza (and progressing without spending an additional cent), and I'm still playing GT.
