Let's clear things up. I get VERY fast speeds when downloading from PSN store. That is not my problem. Simply my problem is with getting decent download speeds with the PS4 play as you download feature ie you download part of the game and it then allows you to play the game whilst it downloads the rest in the background. That is when the speeds grind to a crawl.

----------------
There are a few of us in the PS4 thread getting incredibly slow speeds with play as you download feature thing that PS4 has. We can get the initial download pretty much as fast as our internet will allow us to. The next part is abysmal. I was downloading NBA 2K14 and the first 2GB went very quick, but then the next 40GB which downloaded in the background took just over 24hours. If it even used half my bandwidth I would have been done in a few hours, but no it didn't. Blacklight came out today in EU, the first 4GB was done in <10min, the next 1GB which downloads after booting the game took 30mins..

Just want to see if this is a common issue, or just limited to a few of us Europeans.

Also would like if Sony would just give us the option of downloading the whole thing directly through the PSN store and bypassing this gimmick.

tldr: downloads slow with games that complete download after booting them, eg Killzone play as you download feature.

This thing http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/20...games-anywhere <Though it's doing the complete opposite of what the article is saying. It is making downloading a lot longer for me.

For comparison, this is me downloading War Thunder direct from the store. Pretty quick, so my speeds from the store are fast.

When did you downloaded NBA? Because If it was near launch the servers were slower back then.

NBA seems to be super slow for everyone. Always hear complaints about it.

Not just limited to NBA for a few of us. http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost...ostcount=16704 <KZ on 120mbs connection going really slow for him. Plus my Blacklight was going pretty slow too.

I downloaded DC universe, fifa demo, small brains demo, and the trine demo last night and they downloaded and installed very quickly while I was playing KZ and COD. love it that they all can download at the same time. 18mbs here

Wifi or Wired? Wifi has been about 4x slower than wired in my experience.

Those are all direct PSN store downloads right?

The problem I am having is with the games that don't download the whole thing from the PSN store, but you have to boot the game up and then resume the download. Like how with Killzone you download something like 8GB and then start playing the game whilst the rest downloads. Anything straight from the PSN store maxes out my connection and I can get games within minutes.

As above, my problem isn't my speed or my connection in any way, I am wired and have 75 down. Problem is games that complete the download after booting it up.

Lets do this scientifically.

Post your
ISP
Download/Upload Speeds
Copper or fiber/ Wifi or wired
City
Country

And your general experience with PSN downloads and well as any specific abnormalities

The store downloads very, very fast. I got NBA 2k14 yesterday and the initial store download was rapid, got the 20+ GB in under an hour.

Then the in-game download started and it had to take overnight. Got to 40% in 3 hours. Killzone was a similar story, but you don't really notice the in-game as you can just crack on with the campaign.

I'm on 120mbit internet with a wired connection to the router.

My problem is not my internet. My problem is with the play as you download feature, otherwise speeds on PSN are perfect.

Anyway updated the OP a little, hopefully makes it easier to understand what my problem is. Hasney above is having similar issues.

PSN download speeds were pretty fast for me, even if they're not as fast as my actual download speeds. Last time I checked my network connections on the PS4, I was averaging 25down/8up. For comparison, my actual speeds are ~30down/25up.

I've noticed the same thing.

It makes me think that the initial download is coming from the store, and the play as you download becomes some kind of P2P torrent thing so they can save money on bandwidth.

Pretty shady if you ask me.

There are more of us, woo. Even P2P hasn't gone this slow in what feels like for years.

Updated the OP explaining the problem very easily now..

I think NBA 2K14 is just a freaking huge game, and you need a good connection with PSN (not just a good connection) for it to download fast. Also your ISP may be throttling you after extended periods of downloading.

is this just a euro thing? US speeds have basically capped my 30Mb line no problem for the past 3 weeks.

and yes, NBA2K14 is 47GB on my drive I think.

Yeah, but the initial download is 29GB and that only took an hour.

On the plus side, it looks like the in-game downloads carry on without an initial boot. People were saying Blacklight had an in-game download, but since I downloaded it while I was at work, I didn't notice it.
