http://www.vg247.com/2013/12/04/call...ys-activision/Speaking among the pages of this month’s GameInformer, Activision’s head of publishing was asked if the Call of Duty brand was in danger of perishing under gamer fatigue.
He replied, “No,” and added, “We’ve been pretty transparent all year that we think, because of the challenges of the console transition year, that that was likely in the short-term. I think it would be a mistake to conflate the challenges of the console transition year with any indications about the health of the franchise.”
The magazine then asked Hirsberg if annualising the brand has perhaps caused diminishing returns to this pointm and it was suggested that this is a popular view among critics. He replied, “Well no, obviously not – and obviously I don’t agree with the critics there. I know that Call of Duty’s a polarising franchise with some of the critics, and it’s clear to me that not all the critics like our strategy of making a game every year, but thankfully our fans do.
“It’s also clear to me that the critical response doesn’t always mirror the fans’ appreciation of a game. We actually do read the critics’ comments and take them into consideration during our creative process, but we just can’t measure ourselves by that yardstick alone.
Critics were far too kind to the multiplayer.
Why are there 5 doors leading into every room?
But I quite like the game overall (the story was crap though).
I appreciate that Treyarch tried new things with Black Ops 2, even if it didn't totally work and the MP was overloaded with killstreaks. Hope they can do something special with the series when their turn comes again.Exactly. The series lost all creative credibility many games ago.
Ghosts feels like a step back in a way that doesn't feel too hot.
I've always got to say though: I love Extinction!
Well, I sure as hell won't be buying their overpriced, highway-robbery map packs.Your money tells them otherwise :p
I'm all about Battlefield 4, already have Premium on that, just waiting for them to patch that game more, then Titanfall, next year.
My money is going to EA. They're making the games that I want to play, despite their business practices.
Single-player was crap up until the end- I genuinely like the idea of the ending and I hope you get to play as an evil guy in the next game. That would change up things a *lot*.
Maps suck, weapons do too much damage/nerfed HP, spawns suck, weapon unlock discourages experimentation, leveling up takes longer than usual. Just a mess
Ghosts is even worse than Modern Warfare 2, one hell of a feat but they managed.
Seems simple enough.
I spent an entire YEAR playing Blops 2 on PC, and there was no real hacking. Any that popped up were dealt with pretty fast, this after years of playing til maybe April before stopping due to rampant hack use.
Yeah, I've stopped playing ALREADY because of it. Terrible unfun kill-streaks, bad lag(hell, REMOVING the ability to see ping!), and just an inferior game system in almost every way to your previous game in the series. Great job Activision.
I'm one of the biggest Call of Duty fans there are. I've been with the series since the very first one on PC and I consider 4 to be one of the best games ever made. I've bought and played them all.Not a fan if you shit on the game.
Ghosts is an embarrassment to the name of Infinity Ward.
Bring on Titanfall.
Fucking shame that I have to put up with shitty maps that reward campers.
And i enjoyed Black Ops 2.
The game simple has nothing remarkable to it and the worst map design i've seen yet in a Modern Warfare + Cod game.
Though i will say i have not spent very much time and perhaps the maps'll grow on me when i spend more time with them.
Battlefield Premium is not highway robbery, it's actually a great deal.
It is a shame the game was launched in a broken state, but the game is totally legit once they fix all the bugs/crashes. Puts Ghosts to absolute shame in the gameplay/map department. And every other way, too.
I was looking to trade it in as well, but yikes -- it's down to $26 already on Amazon trade in for the XB1 version.I traded this game in after a week. The worst multiplayer since CoD4 by far.
Maps suck, weapons do too much damage/nerfed HP, spawns suck, weapon unlock discourages experimentation, leveling up takes longer than usual. Just a mess
It's only a matter of time.
He's blaming the franchise fatigue on the console transition? How does that make sense?“...because of the challenges of the console transition year, that that was likely in the short-term. I think it would be a mistake to conflate the challenges of the console transition year with any indications about the health of the franchise.”
You should have the same number of people, or more, buying your game on PS360 or PS4/One if there is no fatigue.
Exactly. The series lost all creative credibility many games ago.
Maybe, but this is the first entry in the series that's actually *unfun* to play, even with friends. That's a major point...
BTW, one other major point: I don't remember a CoD on PC ever being on sale on Steam this close to release...
LOL this so much. I use love Domination in Modern Warfare, LOVE IT. Now I fucking hate domination because every time I try to capture a flag I have to worry about that left corner, the right corner, the 1st floor window from that building next to me, the 2nd floor window in that building next to me, the roof on the other side, the alley inbetween those two buildings. WHY THE FUCK DO I HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT BEING SHOT FROM 20 DIFFERENT ANGLES NO MATTER WHERE I AM ON THE MAP????Originally Posted by CronoShot
The maps are awful.

My god will they ever go back to the simpler map designs of the first Modern Warfare. Back when you can actually see the guy that killed you most of the time instead of this crap where you're always being shot from behind or sideways because their are 10 different paths to get to every location. Yeah I get that not everybody wants this design, but my post is all about what I want. I watch that back. Give me the choke points any day over worrying about trying to keep a eye on 5 different doors while trying to capture a flag.
And man, I really really miss shipment. So much chaos, but so much fun lol.
I know, I bought premium just the other day. I just thought it was funny.Battlefield Premium is not highway robbery, it's actually a great deal.
