We reached out to EA to ask it about that, and a spokesperson for the company provided the following comment:

“First, we want to thank the fans out there that are playing and supporting us with Battlefield 4. We know we still have a ways to go with fixing the game – it is absolutely our No. 1 priority. The team at DICE is working non-stop to update the game. Since Battlefield 4 China Rising expansion pack was already in the final stages of development by the time issues began with Battlefield 4, we decided to fulfill our promise to deliver it this week, but we’re not moving onto future projects or expansions until we sort out all the issues with Battlefield 4. We know many of our players are frustrated, and we feel their pain. We will not stop until this is right.”

Honestly, this just means Star Wars Battlefront is going to be an even bigger turd. They can't tell me part of their contract with Disney is a set-in-stone release date tied into their film schedule.

As much as it shouldn't have come out the mess that it was, I'm glad they're talking about it.

I just hate when this happens with good games. If it was a shitty game with technical problems you can easily just drop it. But when the core gameplay of BF4 is so good, it makes you even more mad when it doesn't work the way it should.

I'll see how these next expansions and patches play out over the next year before I decide whether to get BF5.

Considering the issues aren't art related... I'm going to venture a guess and say the art team, the design team, and the concept (at least for Battlefront) have nothing to do with this and have already moved on to DLC or something else.

Artists maybe... if they need to re-author some of the art to make it cheaper to run (if that indeed is the cause of some of the issues)

DICE wanted to delay the game, EA refused so they could beat CoD: Ghosts. I'd say DICE is as pissed off their most popular series got fucked over with just as much as the fans.

RIP Mirror's Edge 2. I can't believe Dice/EA actually shipped BF4 in its current state, was rushing to release before COD really destroying the entire brand more than it already has been?

I really hope they won't release Mirror's Edge 2 with all of the issues that Battlefield has right now. Especially if they're going to tack on all sorts of contrived content, widening the margin of error.
