All we got so far are Fire Emblem Awakening on 3DS and Disgaea 3 (or 4?) on Vita. You'd think we'd see more by now.

The PSP especially was a hotbed of Strategy RPGs, and you'd think the Vita hardware would be perfectly suited for them with its touch screens, but there are like maybe three strategy games period on the platform. A game that would make me seriously consider a Vita purchase would be Valkyra Chronicles 4. Think about it: the hardware would allow for graphics close to VC1, you got two analog sticks again, and the touch screen would allow for greater tactical control and menu navigation (imagine flipping through VC1's book interface with your thumb).

And I really want the 3DS to eventually get Final Fantasy Tactics A3(D?) or some other similar SRPG. Imagine using the 3D effect to get the illusion of looking into a vivarium that looks like a fantasy chessboard.

You can't even really account for the focus on mobile eating up the prospects for more SRPGs because there haven't really been any new ones from the traditional developers on mobile. There are probably a lot of cheap ones out there but the only full ones I've seen are the FFTactics and XCOM ports.

SRPGs really aren't that big of a genre to begin with, even on home consoles.

Vita has D3 atm and D4 is on its way. I also believe that the upcoming Neptunia game about Noire is an SRPG

If you haven't played it yet, you could try some Tactics Ogre: LUCT for the PSP(Available on Vita)

There's also Project X Zone (but, yeah...) and Devil Survivor Overclocked for the 3ds. Also Devil Survivor 2 Break Record, although that has been delayed to next year and still doesn't have a confirmed western release.

Yep, it's my favorite 3DS game from its first year. It clearly started life as a DS game, and there are some hard-freezes occasionally, but other than that it's a solid tactical RPG as you would expect from Julian Gollop.

Praying for FFTA 3. They could even do one of those tacky system-game name connection things with FFTA3DS.

3DS also has Project X Zone and the Devil Survivor games.

I'd really like to see Valkyria, FFT or Ogre make their way to the system at some point.

edit: Department Heaven too!

Give it a few more years. DS and PSP didn't cultivate such awesome libraries within their first 2-3 years either.

But yeah, it kind of feels like something's missing. New Advance Wars and Final Fantasy Tactics games please.

If you have a 3DS and like these kinds of games (especially if you liked XCOM) then you need to own Ghost Recon Shadow Wars.

It's also just a matter of time before the next Advance Wars gets announced and we just had Fire Emblem and Project X Zone.

I would love a game similar to Jeanne D'arc too. I'm not sure if level 5 has the talent to put out good games anymore though.

There some others like Devil Survivor Overclocked and PxZ. But yeah, there's not too much SRPG action on the 3DS overall.

I really hope that we get a new FFT game or maybe a new Advance Wars.

The Vita has some of the best ones because of the PSP, for 3DS, Project X Zone and Fire Emblem A. Also Devil Survivor.

Seriously though, I'd barely classify PXZ as a SRPG. There's next to no strategy involved on the battlefield. No strategic use of terrain, in depth movement, field abilities, nada.

It was cool that they presented it in that fashion, though.

If that's the case you should definitely enjoy Devil Survivor. Especially if you have some familiarity with the SMT universe. Although the game served as my gateway drug.

I can't not recommend Project X Zone. I know it has its limits and all, but it's charming, fun, colorful, has a solid gameplay, awesome and huge pixels, all the characters you loved when you were young and the ost is pretty rad.

I'm playing Dual Strike and I can see why. The series got way too gimmicky and bloated with so much needless stuff by the time Days of Ruin came around, at which point i'd assume people had enough of Advance Wars even though DoR is a more balanced game.

You referring to this:

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2 - Nintendo DS

Overclocked for 3DS was just an enhanced version of the first one that was already released on DS.

They are doing an enhanced port of Devil Survivor 2 to the 3DS as well, so I imagine that is what he was talking about.

Strangely Days of Ruin wasn't even released in Japan until this year, and that was only as a Platinum Club Nintendo reward.

I want more SRPGs too. I think I played basically all of the ones on the platforms I own by now.
