Happened two days ago, I'm really bummed because I was right in the middle of 3D World and it was (and I guess still is) shaping up to be my goty. Its crazy because I was planning on taking my Wii U to my gf's place for the night, only we discovered that I had left my gamepad charger at my parents' place during thanksgiving so I took my PS4 to her place instead. Next day the Wii U disappears from my place, could've easily been the PS4 if I had left it instead.
The TV, sound system, Wiimotes, PS3, PS3 controllers and several piles of games were left alone and only the Wii U, necessary cords, gamepad, pro controller and 2k14 for PS4 were taken. Really strange. I filed a police report yesterday (got a copy as well since I'll apparently be needing it in the future) and gave them the serial #. I've been keeping an eye on craigslist as well to see if it turns up.
Anybody have any experience with stolen game systems and do any of them have happy endings? Any other important steps I should take?
Edit: I plan on making some Pawn shop and gamestop visits tomorrow, thanks for the advice and words of kindness guys. I've got a police report and a linked Club Nintendo account, anything else I need to recover my games if I get a new Wii U?
*looks in bag*
"Fuuuuuuu"
Sorry to hear that, man. Fucking scumbags.
I guess let the GS's in your area know about the theft, tell them explicitly which games were taken and if you have the serial number for the U you could really be worse off. Worth a shot. Do it soon.Firstly, I don't want this to turn into a thread full of "Nintendo's account system sucks" (it does) and "ur games r gone 4ever" (they aren't) so please none of that.

Sucks OP but that bit is weird, sure it isn't someone you know? Like a roommate or something.

There's an option to delete all the content along with the NNID. If they did that, account recovery gets a little tricky. Did you at least link your Wii U to your Club Nintendo account?Forgot to mention that I've also done that. Whoever took it must've either reset my password or deleted my ID because I can't log onto miiverse anymore.
I had three GBAs stolen from me, it definitely bites.
I have a Wii U and love it. I'm sorry yours got stolen :(
It is quite strange. I live with 4 other people, 3 of whom are my best friends and the 4th guy is the outlier. He always has different people over and that would be my guess as to what happened. The Wii u plus like one game and a controller would easily fit into a purse or a smallish bag, and I don't think he would knowingly let one of his "friends" take it but he's not the most observant guy. And yes I mentioned this theory to the police and other roommates, we're discussing whether or not to try to kick him out but there isn't exactly a whole lot of evidence.Sucks OP but that bit is weird, sure it isn't someone you know? Yes it is linked.Sadly no happy endings. Police caught the guy that stole my stuff years ago, but never got the stuff. Nintendo will allow you to re-download your games/content. So at least you'll still have those. It does illustrate the need for Nintendo to provide a cloud solution for game saves though. Would suck to lose deep progress into Zelda, Mario etc.

Don't trust in the police to check the local 2nd hand and pawn shops, have a look yourself, never worked for me but still worth a try.
to me this seems extremely suspicious. i would keep an eye on your neighbors or anyone else that may have known you purchased a Wii U/PS4. if this was just any thief, they definitely would've taken more items.
really strange
Call your insurance company, sorry that happened :(
So there isn't any sign of break-in then? If it is true, then it must be an insider doing. Well, sorry for your loss OP :(It is quite strange. its sad to say but in situations like this it is usually someone who knew it was there and had been in the apartment before and knew what they wanted going in
i had my wacom tablet and razor mouse stolen in college and i found out it was someone who had been over for a party
Well there ya go. At least it wasn't a break-in but it doesn't make it any less bad. A "friend" saw it and took it.It is quite strange. hope you get it back OP :)
I thought this too. A professional thief would have taken as much as they could carry. Unless it was a child. Edit: After reading some more itr might be an insider job. He must have been really negligent to have someone walk off with a WiiU, eg let ppl walk around the flat and come and go on their own. You and your 3 friends should all give him a grilling just to see if you get out of him. Doubly so if he does drugs, When I was younger I was always running foul of close childhood mates stealing from me to get their fix.Originally Posted by ibitegirls
Sorry to hear, but good to know no one was harmed.
