Over the weekend many of us were able to purchase a PS3 digital title and purchase the PS4 digital upgrade at $9.99.
After talking with a PSN Specialist(Upper Mgmt.), not the first person you get on the phone but having the issue escalated because you can never rely on the first person.
Digital upgrades are Title specific so while ACIV and battlefield 4 worked the PS3 Digital version of COD Ghosts is not upgradeable due to it coming from Amazon PSN store.
Activision has put a restriction on their content and it being only upgradeable if bought directly from PS Store and not amazon PSN store.

They do know, but not during the BF sale. Sony, Amazon and Activision all blame each other. I'm stuck holding a game I dont want and Amazon refuses to refund.

Weird. Amazon is usually pretty liberal with their return policy.

Sure they added "this code will not work on the PS4" but we all know that, The fact that the game isn't upgradeable and you are not made aware of this before you purchase it is the problem.
Nowhere does it mention "Activision titles are excluded or may not qualify for digital upgrade promotion"

Amazon should absolutely be refunding you for this. Contact them again. They shouldn't even be selling this or they should sell it for like half off with a much clearer disclaimer. I don't care who's fault it is this is ridiculous.

Why would Activision do this though? Is the cut smaller for them on the Amazon PSN store vs directly buying from the SEN store?

Amazon are not making it clear on this page that the digital upgrade option will not work with this version of the game (the 'does not work on PS3 is the exact same wording for many of their games and is included on both Assassins Creed 4 and Battlefield 4 which both allow the $10 upgrade).
Sony have not highlighted in their store that 'some' digital versions of the game cannot be upgraded it says pretty much that if you buy the digital copy of the game you can upgrade for $10 , it does not say you can only upgrade if you dont buy the digital copy from Amazon
And finally Activision for locking out some copies and not telling people that this is what they are doing (again on the Activision forums and website it says that you can upgrade a digital copy it does not mention they are locking out digital copies purchased from Amazon)
It also says "The next generation of multiplayer." What next gen features are in Ghost? Dogs maybe? I guess they are calling them next Gen, but those have been around since black ops. Which I just want to say is funny because it all marketing.

I have found while Amazon is usually accommodating with most items, digital is a different ballgame. If you want to chat with a rep you cant put digital download or chat becomes a non option. You have to pit your item isn't listed and be general. I talked to a Rep about BF4 that I got as digital. The product description still says it has hallmark multiplayer and yada yada. I told them they should remove that or put a note that the multiplayer is fundamentally broke right now. I dont even think they should sell that broken PoS.
I got an email back within about an hour saying they would refund me and i just bought the PS4 digital version instead - it was only about a $6 saving or so at the time so not a big deal (although i now have a $10 credit on PSN but i'm sure I can find other things to spend that on)You're welcome :) Glad everyone seems to get it sorted now.
Still would have preferred to get the upgrade...
