Yea, I could see that happening. Instead of a boat or a bird, Link gets a spaceship. There is absolutely nothing inbetween each planet, and each planet is approximately 10 minutes apart from each other.

No. Absolutely, no. Next thing would be a cyberpunk re-imagining of the Lord of the Rings and a soft-porn Kirby game. Leave some things alone.

I absolutely think it could work. A lot of those elements crept into Twilight Princess.

I loved the aesthetic of the Twili. It was sort of Tron-like.

Then you've got the cool spinner gear gizmo and the clawshot that definitely have steampunk aesthetics.

So yeah, I'd be down.

I think the current setting is fine and with the added power of the Wii U it could be even better. More diverse forests, deserts, towns could be possible now. I hope anyways. And there is nothing really stopping them from having a more modern area as a major region in a new Hyrule. Twilight Princess had the whole Sky Temple and Dark World fortress, Skyward Sword also had some technologically advanced areas so I believe steam punk is more likely than cyber-punk at this point.

Wasn't there a fake trailer showing concept art of Zelda in the future, months after the Wii launched? Remember thinking it was cool at the time.

EDIT: Found it

If done right, would love to see a far-off into the future Zelda game - It's certainly possible to create the right sci-fi aesthetic for while still maintaining the core mechanics of the game that makes the series so popular.

The way I could see it working is that all the magic could be seen as advanced technology (like in the MCU), the sages were a precursor race to modern/future Hylians, Hyrule is a colonised planet, Epona is a spacecraft and so on.

Don't know how that would fit into the timeline though, that might fuck with it a bit.

I want a horror zelda game.

OOT always scared me when i was little, the forest / the skeletons / music specially. I want that experience back in zelda. The games just became too soft in my opinion.

An idea of mine is to have a futuristic setting with a typical fantasy setting as the alternate universe that you go to. Sort of like Lorule and Hyrule.

I think it could definitely work and Nintendo could make it work.

Yup, I mentioned it earlier. It appeared as an April Fools joke years ago. Having Epona as a motorbike was full of instant win! I'd love Nintendo to make this happen!!!

Is VGX big enough for a Zelda reveal?

On the subject though, yeah I would love a cyberpunk-ish Zelda game, but Nintendo need to go through with it, make it dark... I feel they can't do that, it will never happen.

On Topic: A sci-fi Zelda... perhaps in the vein of Shadowrun, in that Zelda is a normal boy living in our very day and age and one day the old magicks awake. There's a corporation-overlord bearing the Triforce of Power, a goth hacker with the triforce of Wisdom and you begin as a down-on-his-luck ex-cop with the Triforce of Courage.

Kind of like a Deus Ex meets Shadowrun meets Zelda.

Yes it could work. In fact, it's my secret desire for the Zelda franchise. I love the fantasy world and aesthetic that Zelda has had thus far but I'd like to see a drastic shake up like this, at least for one game. There's no reason it has to be confined into this one setting type just because LoZ/LTTP/OOT did it.

To give them credit, Wind Waker had a bit of a different world from the norm, as did Spirit Tracks with the trains. And Skyward Sword had the potential to have a different world with the sky, it just didn't live up to it.

So I know they are prepared to try new things every now and then. Going Sci-Fi (either Space or Cyberpunk) definitely seems like something they would never experiment with regarding Zelda though. I really think it could be amazing.

In fact, I'd even take a Zelda that straddles both. Travel between time to a fantasy esque traditional Zelda world and the future Cyberpunk world. I'd take that too if they don't want to go all the way.

Maybe one day.

I'd at least take a Zelda came where you can play as either Link or Zelda. At the very least co-op has been hinted at for the next one, so that could maybe happen.

I definitely want to see something different than Zelda getting captured and/or being largely away from the plot for the majority of the game until the end when she comes in with Light Arrows.

I don't see why Zelda would need to be attached to a cyberpunk Nintendo game. Sure, it would be nice to see some technological advancement in Hyrule... But, like the timeline, I think a certain amount of ambiguity is better than jumping forward thousands of years.

IMO alot of skyward sword was sci fi, in regard to the laranyu desert and some other parts. i wouldnt mind a zelda with sci fi leanings like that. and it'd make sense in the timeline - technology in hyrule can't always be static

but as for straight up steampunk/sci fi, hell no

I'd like to see Link, Zelda, etc. magically transported to present day Earth and see how would the humans react. Of course It would still have dungeons with puzzles and it wouldn't be set in a metropolis (I don't want people believing it to be a GTA clone) but in a semi rural town)

There was concept art from LTTP of Zelda in a scifi/futuristic outfit, I'm not sure if I can post it (it's from Hyrule Historia) but search for "Scifi Zelda" on Google it's the first image that comes up.

Also:

- Link sprite was designed by Takashi Tezuka. Like Mario, they wanted a character that would be recognizable from his sword and shield so they thought of a long hat and long ears and went into the direction of an elf. At the time, when you said long ears you thought of Peter Pan and as he's a Disney fan, they drew inspiration from it.
Link's name come from the fact that originally, the fragments of the Triforce were supposed to be electronic chips. The game was to be set in both the past and the future and as the main character would travel between both and be the link between them, they called him Link.

As well as a quote from Aonuma:

“If we don’t change that, we can’t make something new. We’re slightly approaching The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds with that mindset, and also the next Zelda title, which we intend to continue changing. However, this brings us to the topic, ‘Exactly what is The Legend of Zelda about?”
“Something that is ‘traditional’ is in a sense often something that copies previous works, so if you continue doing that, it gradually takes away from its uniqueness. So we’re currently working on making those parts more and more unique.”
“So, by no means, am I tired of it. Rather, the more we change it, the more I get fired up. Having someone think ‘Huh? Is this Zelda?!’ at first, then ‘Oh, it is Zelda,’ is what we’re going for. Something that wouldn’t make it matter whether Link or Princess Zelda appear in it or not. Something where it wouldn’t even matter if Zelda is actually a princess, or not.”

I think it's entirely possible for it to happen, but still unlikely.

There was an interesting and weird rumor about a new Zelda for Wii U, in which you play in both a fantasy world as well as a current real world. One on the gamepad, one on the TV.

It'd be interesting to see them pull off a present day Zelda somehow, but the idea above is pretty dumb.

Cyberpunk I'm not interested in. A futuristic Zelda, yeah give me a new IP instead that plays similarly but different enough to be it's own series for a few games.

I have a genuinely hard time figuring out why a cyberpunk Zelda in a run-down city with futuristic dungeons would be a bad thing. It's not as if the games couldn't use a breath of fresh air.

I once had a weird dream about this concept. Link went into some vortex/wormhole and as soon as he came out on the other side a neon arrow comes flying at him. He manages to dodge it and sees a familiar presence come out of the shadow. It's Link but with a CyberPunk look, his clothes is silver and has a Robocop type mask on his face

Yeah that's it.

Honestly I'd prefer just to use the same core gameplay or something similar (more open ended please) but in a different settings. There's just too much baggage with Zelda as it is, plus you could be a bit bolder with gameplay while retaining the core aspects of it.

I wouldn't mind a sci-fi mixed with fantasy Zelda game as long as it's an alternative world like in the link to the past. Well, as long as Link's main weapon doesn't turn in to a gun.

Meh it would be interesting to see a cyber-punk take on the story, Zink is the Decker, ganon is the evil CEO of some corporation, Zelda is the cracked out hooker with a heart of gold. Tri-force is the new designer drug on the market.
