It's hard to explain without going into too much detail. It exudes charm, has great gameplay, it's very deep, and has some excellent music. Seriously the music is amazing.

Viva Pinata is one of rares best games. It's absolutely incredible and just draws you in the more you play it. You're constantly collecting and discovering new pinatas, seeds, and decorations. And there's tons of secrets. You have to play it if you own a 360. No excuses.

I'm on the opposite side of you having gamed on the 360/Wii this last gen but I'm considering getting a PS3 in the future for 1st party games only. Have ton of games for it both retail and digital so I don't know where to point you at. Definitely check out the following:

Deadly Premonition -360 is better than the PS3 version but PC version rules all because Durante fixed it.
Gears of War series- Chainsawing a grub never gets old. I think I liked the first one the best in terms of story but the second one for Horde (third one is also solid for Horde and Beast mode). Spent way too many hours playing Horde. Never was a fan of the MP.
Infinite Undiscovery- Criminally underrated, sorry haters. The sense of exploration is underwhelming and there's awkwardly silent cutscenes, but it's a solid action RPG with a charming main character who's hilarious. Two words: Dinner dance.
Blue Dragon-Final Fantasy 5 spiritual successor. If you can ignore the toilet humor enemies, it's a good game.
State of Decay-Good open world zombie apocalypse game. Definitely recommend it.
Iron Brigade- If you don't have it for Steam, it's a damn good mecha MP game with charming visuals.
Fallout 3
Fallout: New Vegas-These two games run much better on 360.
Phantom Breaker: Battlegrounds
Condemned: Criminal Origins- Definitely one of the best 1st person horror games I played. Ignore the sequel.
Banjo Kazooie
Banjo Tooie-Note for these games: they've only been on sale once and never again. If you want to pay full price for then be my guest, but I would say to wait for the Christmas sale since it might be discounted.
Splinter Cell: Conviction-The co-op is story is fantastic. The SP campaign is all right. I enjoyed it.
Happy Wars- Free to play action MP game with cutesy visuals. It has weekly events. I haven't played it in a while but can easily ignore the microtransactions stuff and have fun. I enjoyed it a lot.

For other games, check out my profile. My GT is Johan El Fuerte. There's too many games to list that would require explaining.

Well get Gold and Gears of War is free right now.

But yeah you missed out on free Crackdown, but it's worth the $5-$10 it'll cost you. Crackdown is one of the most fun games you'll ever play.

Blue Dragon. I don't like Fable, but for some reason people do.....the anniversary comes out soon as well (the only good one IMO). Fable 2 was good actually, but it wasn't for me.

Oh, and Forza if you like racing games. You can skip 2&3 and just go for 4 and Horizon especially.

- Perfect list. And I agree about Fable, no idea what loved about it,

Perfect Dark XBLA is probably the best game on the system. So that.

Tales of Vesperia is pretty good as well.

Ill never understand peoples love for Crackdown. That game gets insanely boring after an hour or so.

edit: I forgot you should get Fable 2. Such an insane improvement over the first game. Buy it.

I found the first 10 or so hours to be a bit of a slog but once I got passed that and the world opened up a bit more it was a lot more fun. It's a good game but if you like JRPGs definitely get Lost Odyssey first. Also if you're REALLY into JRPGs then you can consider The Last Remnant and Infinite Undiscovery. They won't blow you away or anything but I thought they were still pretty good games.

Some other games to consider would be:

Bastion
Fez
Battleblock Theater
Fable 2 and 3
Dust: An Elysian Tail
Crackdown
Super Meat Boy
Splosion Man/Ms. Splosion Man

Several of those have PC versions but they're great games so I listed them anyway. That's the best list I can come up with off the top of my head as it seems like you have the big guns covered in Halo and Gears.

Huh? First hour? You're barely powered up in the first hour. The game gets better the LONGER you play as you gain more power.

I'll echo what everyone else has said. The Halos (3 and ODST are my favourites), Alan Wake and American Nightmare, Gears series, Crackdown, Viva Pinata, Kameo, Banjo, PGR 4, Forza, Geometry Wars, Iron Brigade and Shadow Complex.

Fable's never really been my thing. I always went with Bioware for my xbox rpgs. Speaking of which, check out Mass Effect (The platinum hits version comes with an awesome bonus disc) and Jade Empire, both of which are available on the XBL store. Grabbed by yhe ghoulies is another one you should check out, it's really under rated.

Shmups it is the genre where the 360 by far outweighs other genres for exclusives.

Any regional 360

Deathsmiles (must buy)
Dodonpachi Resurrection (PAL version works on NA 360s)
Mushihimisama Futari (must buy)
Esp Galuda 2
Eschatos (must buy)
Akia Katana
Radient Silvergun (has a special Ikaruga mode if you have Ikaruaga on XBLA too)
Trouble Witches Neo
Guwange
Strania (level design by same person who did Ikaruga / Silvergun etc)
Space Invaders Infinity
Galaga DX

and many more.

Also Buy

Nin2Jump
Trials HD
Guardian Heroes
REZ HD
Alien Hominid HD
Dishwasher Vampire Smile
Bayonetta
Ninja Gaiden Black
Jet Set Radio Future
Panzer Dragoon Orta (if you have a NA 360)
WarTech: Senko No Ronde
Virtual On OT HD
Dayatona HD
Forza 3 or 4.
Skyrim and any other game that run like crap on the PS3

Also Forza Horizon, Forza 4
Fable 2 and if you can get for cheap 3 (I enjoyed it but a seriously hit or miss game)
