I just got back from a two hour walk, and I feel very refreshed. A cup of warm tea besides me...mhmm
It started three years ago for me when I got a job downtown. After leaving the subway, I had to take a streetcar to get to work. It involved being stuffed up between a few dozen people for 20 minutes. After two weeks I could not take it any more and decided to leave home earlier, so I could just walk after leaving the subway. The first time I did it, I instantly felt better and more refreshed. Didn't have that morning haze which made me a zombie for the first few hours.
I started going on more and more walks, and here I am. I try to have a daily walk whenever I can.
I also find this a good replacement for people who want to stay healthy, but just don't enjoy the intensity of cardio and whatnot.
Any other gaffers here who enjoy going for long walks?

Very much so.
One of the reasons I prefer living in cities.

Love long walks. Spend several hours a week walking, and it keeps me slim to boot!
It's an amazing way to keep fit. Before I moved to the US I used to walk an hour to work and an hour home from work. You really don't know how good it is until you can't do it anymore.
It definitely does get rid of that morning Zombie!

I like walking up to rooftops/the tops of parking garages and eating pizza there.
i love walking, i will always take the dog out voluntarily because i like to get out as much as he does.
Too many dogs not on leashes around my house so I can't walk too far.
Love it, until that day you get robbed.
I love it when I'm not on a time schedule, just walking for fun. It's very theraputic.
I enjoy a good walk.
Also, one of my very favorite things to do is get stoned and go out for a walk around the neighborhood at night smoking a cigarette. Although that kind of conflicts with my whole "quit smoking" thing now.

Are you from Toronto, OP? One of the great walking cities of North America. So many interesting little communities and neighbourhoods. I used to live there, but now I live in Japan, which is mostly terrible for walking. I miss Toronto for that.
Yup, I usually do 15-30 minute walks, depending on how I'm feeling. It's been a little rougher lately because it's so goddamn cold out but I do it anyway. Just got back from one right now, in fact.
I live in NYC so.....
and my job involves walking anyway.

Late night walking is the best.
It's my podcasting time. I've learned so much interesting shit on my walks.
During the summer time I use to go on walks with my family every other day at night. It felt great going on our 3 mile walks :)...
I love taking walks on a daily basis, and especially love when we get a great light snow going with the temp being at 0C. Taking a walk at night while having a cigarette and some mulled wine is a divine experience.
Yes. I go to the loop every other week to stroll around downtown
I walk everywhere when I'm in Toronto. Only using the subway/street cars when necessary.
Apart from that, I enjoy looking at the scenery and wish I could take pictures of everything.

Living in walking distance to work is the best thing ever. I used to walk 20 minutes to work and back, fuck cars.
I used to walk an hour a day, I've got to get back into it because it was always the highlight of my day. Get away from everything and listen to some music or podcasts... I miss it.
I love taking walks unless its super hot and humid out.
I don't mind going for a walk, if I'm going to do something. Not really into it, if it's just me going walking for the sake of it. Plus, nice spots to go to here are pretty limited. Think I would more often if I lived in a seaside town.
Yep. You can discover awesome things. I found what I call "Inception neghborhood" in my neighborhood in DC. It's literally two blocks of houses within the main blocks of houses... Super secluded and very cool.
Also, walking is how you find the spirit world.

I would walk everywhere when I lived in LA. Everything was at a walking distance there. When I moved to the IE, you basically need a car to go everywhere since everything is so far away while walking. Sometimes I'll go to my local 7-Eleven by walking, but the streets here are hardly lit up so it's quite dangerous to be walking at night.
I enjoy listening to podcasts, and walking seems like something productive to do while listening to them.
I do too, and the 'independence' aspect, but that would fly out the window for me if I suddenly felt like I was in mortal peril. Maybe it's different for you, but I don't think I can honestly consider it an attitude of risk taking if I'm not really considering the risk.I do it all the time at night, in the big city. But I think that part of me enjoys the risk taking.
I go on walks, usually late at night when I'm stressed out. Like the night before a big paper or test. I'll throw on some music and just walk around outside at like 3am. I've got a spot by this old church that I go and just sit and meditate. It's probably the best thing I can do for stress relief.
Absolutely.
I do a 30 minute walk every day during lunch while listening to my favorite podcast. Keeps me refreshed and ready for the rest of the day.

I walk to and from work takes about 30-40 minutes. If anyone offers a ride I usually decline.
I love night walks and night bike rides. Unfortunately I can't walk around my neighborhood or nearby ones :( Either they think: I'm up to no good, I'm a prostitute or I'll get mugged.
Walking around downtown Indy is one of my favorite activities
Yep, there isn't much more refreshing than a nice walk. Close second is a cup of cold water after mowing the grass on a hot summer day.
I enjoy it a lot. Especially as a student who gets tired of studying in an apartment for long periods.
There's always something interesting to see on walks in a big urban setting.

I walk to and from work. Takes 30 minutes. I do enjoy it but I'd need better shoes to enjoy more walking.
Well, I'm not really walking around an unsafe part of the city. It's all residential houses and stuff so I never feel like I'm in direct danger. My mom would still freak out if she knew. ;)Originally Posted by umop_3pisdn

Oh yes dude, this is great stuff. Gonna do it now actually.I enjoy a good walk.

i walk one mile every night. dem closed gate rural neighborhoods.
I bought my car new in 2007. It has 13k miles on it. I've been either bussing or walking to work for almost 6 years. So much nicer than commuting by car.
I do really enjoy the morning walk, get's the blood flowing and wakes you up nicely.

I hate it, simply because I'm impatient.
It takes too long to get from A to B. Maybe if I had a shit load of free time.

The high today was 9 degrees Fahrenheit. So no, not right now at least.
My favourite thing is to go to a big city and just walk around, trying to discover cool things. Might get me in trouble one day, but until then it's just fun!
That's probably my favorite thing to do in the summer, but as of this post it's -13 degrees F here so not right now lol.
I walk to and from work every day. I used to work overnight, which meant I was sometimes able to see the sun rise each morning. It was the only joy I had when it came to work.
Now I like to walk to the bar, have a few beers, then wander around this suburban landscape while the weather is nice (not too cold, but cold enough).
