Really hope that wasn't the type of Witcher spoiler I think it may guessed it to be...

Been saving the series until I had a vacation in a year or two and could afford to sit down and enjoy a Game of Thrones, Witcher, Tactics Ogre binge.

Loved that TO was in the OP btw. TO and ME would be my choices. ME story was so-so for me but I grew really attached to the characters and my choices.

What class to roll, what loot to keep, which ones to sell, ability trees, etc.
Anything that's an actual gamble.

As for story, the trial with Abigail in The Witcher 1. It took me by surprise.
Bunch of conversations in MasK of the Betreyer too. But I was already pretty good at NWN2 and into character at that point, so it just roleplayed.

Interesting choice. In the epilogue it is revealed that choosing Harrowmont (your trusted, wise friend) leads Orzammar down a road towards stagnation and extinction. Choosing Behlan, your traitorous brother who is by all accounts a duplicitous douchebag who killed your brother and will try to kill you if you vote against him...he leads Orzammar towards a new era of prosperity and makes significant strides in uplifting the lower castes and welcoming back exiled dwarves. The first time I played my choice was simple. Second time...it was a bit more informed.

I picked Behlan because obviously the caste system needed to go. It was hard to feel good about that choice, however, when Behlan immediately executed Harrowmont as his first act as king. At that point I wanted to get my troops and get the hell out of dodge. I actually have never felt like I made the "right choice" until I read what you said about what happens when you choose Harrowmont. A mark of good storytelling, I would say.

I remember feeling absolutely awful for days on end when I decided I wanted a new pup in Nintendogs...

...because it required me to look at the happy, excited faces on my dogs, and to make a decision about which one is going for good.

After that, I think I was put off the game.

Probably the Geth assimilation quandary in ME2, probably one of the only times a game has really made me think about an ethical choice.

Of course Bioware managed to completely ruin the need for independent thought by putting the paragon option at the top every time.

Not a spoiler, don't worry. It is comparable to choosing the evil/hero path in INfamous, except there is no defining line telling you which one is good or bad. The Witcher is really good at that, it gives you multiple options but it isn't as simple as good vs. bad.

Another hard one is every menu when you can't really tell which option is selected.
There is a question and you can choose "Yes" or "No" but you can't really tell which is selected. A lot of that during PS1 era.

Fire starter, always.

For me it was Nier's Ending D, deciding if I wanted to delete my whole existence AKA my complete save data to save Kainé. That was a meaningful decision.

I find coming up with a name for any game to be the most frustrating - especially if its a username that will be seen online. I have spent hours upon hours on the WoW character, PSN username, and every PC online account creation screen. I cannot stay committed to one name it seems.

Actual in-game? Probably in Chrono Trigger where you have the option to fight or take in "Vegeta". I opted to fight (since I didn't know any better then) and afterwards realized what his intentions were all along. It was my first "I've made a huge mistake" moment. Runner up would be most of The Walking Dead.

Walking Dead episode 3, a character dies and I am told I can save that character.

I proceed to play the first 3 episodes making different decisions to try and save the character. Dies anyway. Got trolled by a friend. Stopped playing for a bit because everything truly goes to shit after and it started with that persons death. That character felt like the only one trying to defuse the situation where every other fucker just wants to get riled up no matter how diplomatic I am unless I say something immoral to appease all the other asshole characters.

:'( Fuck you friend!

BUT a few months ago i played "Inquisitor" (PC) and it manage to give me hard choises, complicated with some twisted report from various characters that feeded me lies in order to use me (and the inquisition) to get rid of their rivals !

The first time I played Demon's Souls, basically every step in the game was the hardest gaming decision: from choosing what stats to level up every time I got a few souls and selecting a way to spending the hard-earned ore, to deciding about killing or not a character that could be hostile or not, knowing that there was no turning back (like the guy on top of the cathedral in Latria 1).

Is it appropriate for Walker to commit suicide after all the horrible crimes he has commited ? It kind of felt 'right' to pull the trigger on myself given the situation. Fantastic game.

Regarding Beyond, I was personally very disappointed to see the final outcome is more or less the same no matter what decisions you make. A huge step down from Heavy Rain, where characters could die depending on what you did, and even if every character that could possibly die did, there was still an ending to the story.

First playthrough is more enjoyable since you don't know what's going to happen, but subsequent playthroughs were quite disappointing when I realized only minor things changed. :/

placing skill points/choosing perks in rpgs is usually where i spend the longest time making a decision. i couldn't give 2 fucks about the appearance, name, voice etc but those starting skill points, goddamn, takes me forever.

also, a new one for me is choosing quest rewards where you have to choose one out of a few options. the star wars and the FFXIV mmo's both have this option and i always 2nd guess myself.

In the first Fable game, when you're in the Arena, after you've beaten everything, Jack of Blades offers you something like 20,000 gold to kill your friend Whisper. Or you can just walk away.

Most obvious choice is The Walking Dead. So many hard decisions throughout.

Especially: Take the food in the boot of the car? That actually hit me. I thought to myself... "Would I actually take that if this was me in real life? Someone may die if I were to take this" I did take it in the end though, after thinking some more...

Also: End of Episode 5... Had Clementine shoot Lee... :(

I would say it was God of War when you have to sacrifice the soldier in order to continue, but it wasn't really a choice. It was definitely the first time a video game ever gave me moral pause. I both love and hate the game for it.

But for me, it would have to be choosing to sacrifice Cheripha in Covenant of the Plume. She was sweet and didn't deserve it, but...I wanted to experience all possible story paths.

Dying from a rock paper scissors battle was such bullshit. I would assume that if Sega were to bring back Alex Kidd that would be the first thing to go.

The genophage cure in Mass Effect 3. I loved how all through the setup and the mission itself I was pondering what to do. While the mission itself wasn't great, at least it reflected really well my own inner conflict. I also liked that, when I played it again later and went full asshole (poor M..), that option still made a lot of sense too (and perhaps had greater emotional payoff).

ME3 gets a lot of justified derision, but its choices are some of the best ever.
Well ME3 and TWD.
