Nah, that's Toriyama.

Nomura would just design only outfits and no people to wear them, thus signaling he lost his mind and is unfit for work.

Any idea where he'll go work now?

Or maybe he'll just do contractual work...

Also, you forgot Masaharu Iwata, who scored half of TO/OB scores and Hayato Matsuo (few tracks for OB, loads for OB64)

Sakimoto joined Square along with Matsuno, Yoshida, and Minagawa to work on FFT. He left Square after Vagrant Story to form Basiscape. I don't think Iwata was ever a Square employee. Matsuo definitely wasn't.

Seems fine to me. As projects take longer to develop, there's less time spent on the art side, and more time spent on recreating that art in the game. He probably has a lot of downtime, so its not like he has to be a full time SQEX employee 7 days a week. They can contract him anytime they want, I'm sure.

In the meantime, he can work on other things too. Win, win really. No idea why anyone would be saddened by this. The main thing Yoshida is good at is covers for games, and designing clothing and AF armor. I'm sure he can still do that anytime.

Time for some new artists to get heavy recognition. Yoshida and Nomura had been in the spotlight for several decades.

Losing all the talent from Square Enix not only hurts Square Enix but I bet it'll hurt Sony a lot too...

How many of you started gaming on Playstation strictly because of Squaresoft? I'm not afraid to admit I'm one of them.

Edit: I should add that lately, FFXIV is the only exclusive they've managed to have for awhile but that doesnt change possible future and their previous history.

Yoshida's art wouldn't fit Hino's goofy cornball stories and worlds.

Wow, huge loss for Square. Yoshida's artwork is currently my favorite artwork in the industry, next to the stuff that Bungie's concept artists bring out. I hope they still contract him for future FFXIV: ARR stuff but I hope he finds a good place elsewhere.

Yoshida and Matsuno joins forces with Nintendo and Monolith Soft and announces two new projects that'll be the flagship titles into the Q4 2014 period: a SRPG for the 3DS (a spiritual successor to Tactics Ogre and Ogre Battle) and a new IP, a action JRPG that beckons the spirit of the fan favorite Vagrant Story for Wii U.

Nintendo should give him a nice cozy space at Monolith Soft.

Hell, expand Monolith Soft into two teams and snap up Matsuno while they're at it.

While Squaresoft was a key factor in going Playstation, in general a lot of that 3rd party support Nintendo had during the 8-bit and 16-bit days went Playstation, just Squaresoft was more extreme. Capcom and Konami always dabbled with other platforms, but Nintendo 64 got the same treatment something like Genesis or PC Engine used to get from them. Still, Square Enix sort of went back with the Game Boy Advance and especially DS, and likewise for those two and others like Atlus, so combined with how they've been favoring multiplats outisde of the handheld space it hasn't really mattered as much as it used to.

ALTHOUGH Sony actually has stock in SE last I checked, so yeah it's probably going to affect them if this course really doesn't translate into higher revenue. But then they might actually return to a non-mobile focus if that actually happens, or just self implode and mainly focus on their other businesses in Japan.

Ah that make... huh? Iwata scored half of FFT as well, why would they hire Sakimoto and not him? I guess Matsuo made more money freelancing for anime score, so him I can understand.
Thanks for clearing this up though, much appreciated. :)

Maybe Iwata just wanted to stay freelance? At least until Sakimoto started up Basiscape anyway, then he was more than happy to join his company. Lol!

He might. As he plainly states, he will still be available to work with them anytime he's not previously booked. Uematsu scored another mainline FF game after leaving. Hamauzu did two. Nakano and Hamauzu both just did tracks for a SQEX Christmas album. Nakano and Hamauzu also are both working on FFX HD.

This really isn't anything new, or meltdown worthy. No one can even put together a post explaining why its even bad news with actual reasons, because there are none. He plainly states he'll still work with them. And his very first project after leaving is with SQEX, on Bravely Second.
