What a pleasant little action platformer.
I will admit, I walked into this thing not expecting much. It was a PS Plus freebee so not much room for complaints in the first place, but I've been left pleasantly surprised. The visuals are nice, the soundtrack is cool if not a little repetitive after awhile, the setting is fresh and hasn't really been explored all that much, the combat mechanics are solid and the self awareness really plays to the games favor. Hints and nods to Super Mario, Super Meatboy and others are a nice touch. It hits all the right notes with teaching through gameplay and not cutscenes as well which is good.
The comedy can be a little hit and miss though. It's like the writers are trying too hard. Their source material isn't that strong in the first place (there's only so much you can do with Luchador Mexico) but they only make it worse with the hamfistedness of it. I'm thinking I'm a little over halfway through and it has been a fun ride.

My favorite Vita game.
If it was exclusive, I'd even call it a system seller.

The writing is thankfully unobtrusive as the extensive use of Internet humor is a weak point for me, although the Metroidvania is there and it's rather well done.
A neat and tidy little game that I am unlikely to ever revisit, the world could use more of these

Been playing it too, it is fantastic
Terrific game. Incredible OST. Jaguar Javier battle on Hard is one of the best boss battles of the last decade. Platinuming Gucamelee! was the most enjoying Platinum I ever did.
Fantastic game but the 10 second ending and the alternate ending where shit.
Best Metroidvania this gen and is up there with Shadow Complex. Better than what Nintendo and Konami have done this gen that's for sure.

European PS+ strikes again. I'm super jelly
Excellent game. Just started it again on my new account. Some proper twiddly bits later on.
Looking forward to whatever Drinkbox do next.
Like Velocity Ultra it ramps up quite nicely.

Mischief Makers meets Metroid.
Best game. But yeah lame internet jokes that will no doubt rot.

Great game. I love the "Meme(s)" used in the game.
Fantastic game. Never found the joke references obtrusive or annoying, so I've pretty much got nothing but good things to say.
Can't wait to see what Drinkbox come up with next.

Excellent game. Definitely in my top 5 games of the year.
The grappling system was super fun and I'm hoping there's a Guacamelee 2 in the future.
Should i play this game single player or co-op?
Fantastic little game. Everything is just really tightly designed and exhibits a high degree of polish. Would welcome a sequel with warm, fuzzy, open arms.
It's a great game but the memes got old quick. Also it felt like the game was padded out at times. Like when you fight hordes and hordes of dudes.
Yeah me too, played it in one sitting whilst watching all the football on Saturday. Really cool combat and the platforming puzzles get pretty tough toward the end. Great PS+ title
Started this today as well. Lot of fun.
Picked up the Gold version on Steam a few weeks ago and been having a blast. I mostly went in blind but had a good feeling about it just from a few screenshots and the overwhelming praise it was receiving. I play it on my Xbox 360 wired controller and it works so smoothly. Very tight controls and everything just feels so polished (art design/sound design/mechanics), quite challenging without being overwhelmingly frustrating too.
Anyone that likes sidescrolling games should give this a go. There were a couple of bosses that made me want to rip my chest hair, but the game is really good. The platforming is challenging in the right way, and the skills you get to traverse the world add to the eperience.
I recently went to my friends house to check out his wii. I was generally impressed. It was larger than I expected though.

I love the game but my vision is pretty poor. Reading the small texts puts quite a strain to my eyes. And it's not only this game, quite a few vita games does this as well. I wish there was some sort of option for increasing the text sizes, cos this is the only reason keeping me from really enjoying this game.
I love that "¿O rlmente? Si Rly" -poster :D
A bit too short a game for my liking, but overall a really pleasant experience.

Loved it if a bit short and you could find all secrets on your first visit without much backtracking. One of the best games I played on PS3 at the moment.
I agree. My vision isn't the best and small text is a problem in many games. GTAV is the latest example for me.Originally Posted by Zee_truly evil

Is it 2 sets of trophies? Also, my Vita save does it transfer to PS3?
Or do they act like 2 different games?

I enjoyed the game a lot, but it's not without flaws: its metroid-like structure is utterly straightforward, there's no real "sense of discovery", you have color coded barriers that clearly need a particular power up to brake, and behind the barriers you usually get money or items to improve your health and stamina, there's almost no real secret (but the QR code one was hilarious). In short, as an adventure game Guacamelee is shallow.
As a brawler it's good but, don't know why, to me these brawlers get ripetitive as you proceed: luckily there's enough enemy variety and the boss fights are good. I would have liked more depth though.
Also, it's funny as hell.

Playing it right now on my PS3, best game I got the past 3 months from PS+ IMO
How deep are the metroidvania mechanics? In terms of xp and leveling like in castlevania, or skill upgrades only?
In my top 5 of the year for sure. Love everything about it.
Skill upgrades. You'll see a path that is blocked by a red brick. When you get the uppercut skill that gives you the uppercut? You can open it.How deep are the metroidvania mechanics? In terms of xp and leveling like in castlevania, or skill upgrades only?
I actually just finished it tonight care of PS+. It did get repetitive but it managed to hold that off a lot better than a game like Dust.
It wasn't amazing, but I was surprised by how much was in it and it was just good honest fun from start to finish.
I have downloaded this on PS+ for free this month and it is amazing! I am only a couple of hours in but it has me hooked. Absolutely love it. The difficulty curve is pretty steep but that's only a good thing and I can't wait to get back on it tonight. It's really making my VITA feel like it's delivering for me.
Shared trophy list, saves are CrossSave, so you just synch/upload to the server. Is it 2 sets of trophies? Also, my Vita save does it transfer to PS3?

On the subject of the game, one of the best games I've played this year. The fighting mechanics are so polished, it was a joy to play some of the challenge rooms.
I have lots of money ready for a sequel, will buy for high price!!!
The meme references were a bit cringey, but the videogame references were great

One of my top 10 games of the year. So much fun, such tight controls (I played on PS3). Looks gorgeous too.
Such a cool little game, got it with the EUPS+ and played it exclusively for the last days.
Fun combat, lots of style and a gorgeous setting took me completely in.
I don't know if I'll try the hard mode, but I had lots of fun getting the orbs on normal mode.

Some of those were replaced with game references with the Gold Edition, I think. Never ran into the "Me Gusta" lemon poster for instance, but I did see nods to Majora's Mask or the Mario Brothers in its stead.Originally Posted by Jacobbles
This is actually the only part of the game that I actively dislike.
EDIT: welp, beaten
One of the best this year - Don't care one way or the other for the memes but the game is amazing.
Such a pretty little gem, i really really adored it.
And all the references were just AMAZING, you can see the passion and the cleverness these guys clearly possess. <3
