I loved it. Watched it 6times and plan on watching it again soon.
Amazing performances by almost all the kids. Brought me back to a child like wonder of looking at things.
It was a very enjoyable film that didn't quite measure up to the quality of the films it was inspired by like E.T, so in GAF's eyes it was a colossal failure and JJ is a hack.
You'll get a bunch of people trying to pass off lens flares and mystery box critiques as genuine criticisms.

OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD!
Loved it, haven't seen it a second time though.
Starts strong but ends on a bit if a whimper. A good throwback to them kinda movies. Make sure you watch the post credits part that contains the actual movie.
I didn't like the ending or how I was supposed to feel sorry for the monster, but the rest was great and the kids were all brilliant.
Anything with Coach Taylor Kyle Chandler has to be gold.

It was alright I guess
I guess it helped I went into the movie with 0 knowledge beforehand. Thought it was just going to be a monster movie.
I was riveted and shocked from the first few minutes.

I think I went in knowing / expecting too much. I was pretty unimpressed
It was pretty cool movie. Saw it in Imax. I don't get the hate for it.
Sure, I like it.
Not really, felt like a bad impression of an 80's Spielberg movie.
It was fine. Probably Abrams best movie. Great performances from the kids. Giacchino does a damn fine Williams impression, too bad they trust him for Ep.7. Its very pretty. Last 30 minutes are bad, as it dovetails into a protracted chase sequence, and the last 5 minutes are hoaky as hell, the kind of thing squeezed in because other, better movies did it. The reveal of the monster is kinda, "yeah...ok then, there it is".
It's a pastiche of other, better movies, and it doesn't use the pastiche to say anything new or personal like QT does. But it was good enough, for what it was.

First part was good, the second part was really bad and stupid. Perhaps went in with too high expectations, though.
The stuff with the kids was great. I can't even remember the monster.
I think it starts as a nostalgic homage to 80s kid's movies and ends as an actual 80s kid's movie, which provides a dissonance that throws a lot of people off.
Never seen it. I take it that I should go watch this movie?
I fell asleep before seeing the creature.
I recently watched it again from where I left off; yeah, it was average to me, will likely never watch it again.

I remember really rolling my eyes when I was watching this in the cinema.
So I don't think I liked it

Yep, thought it was awesome.
I enjoyed it and even liked the design of the creature a lot.
Yeah it was alright. JJ Abrams!
I liked the first half quite a bit. After that, it derails. Giacchino's score is probably the best part of the whole thing.
It was a fun little ride. Aside from the influences it was drawing, it at times felt like it didn't quite know what kind of film it wanted to be. But it was good enough for me to have seen it twice in the theaters which I normally don't do.
Pretty boring.
I recall being disappointed, but honestly I can't remember a thing about the movie now. I guess it was entirely forgettable for me.
I liked it. But I love movies like Super 8 and The Mist, Cloverfield and whatnot. I wish I knew more movies like that to buy honestly, but I dont know if there's a genre name for them or not.
Cloverfield was so damn good. Too bad he couldnt deliver with Super 8.
I loved it. Saw it blind with my family on vacation and we thought it was quite good.
It was charming, but not excellent.
I didn't hate it but it wasn't very memorable.
I didnt dislike it. It was ok, not bad, ok.
Was so excited for this film, Spielberg is my favourite director and could see his influence all over the film, really like JJ too. Missed at the cinema unfortunately but got Blu ray not long after.. It was good, not as good as I hoped though kinda lost its way as it progressed. I loved the kids, the town, filmmaking aspect though, plus the soundtrack is sooo good.
I rewatched some of it again, and checked out the directors commentary which was pretty good so i'm warmed to it more.. All the making of material is very, very good though; i've actually watched those more than the film itself! Although I tend to rewatch all the extras more than the films so nothing different here.

Here's the actual movie, for those that missed it (mild spoilers):

I liked it. The kids were good, the action was interesting, the creature was confusing in a good way.
I wish more directors would try and recapture these 'Amblin' sort of movies.

Yeah, it was pretty good.
I liked it, yeah. I was a little bothered that they (ending spoilers) never come back to the kid that hurt his leg. Normally that kind of thing doesn't bother me, but given that they're kids, I felt we needed some closure on it.
I don't dislike Super 8, I was just really disappointed because it was so close to being really good. The script is just a mess. Them getting the alien on film is set up only to not matter. The alien plays out like the shark in Jaws but then we're supposed to feel bad for it like in ET. The fucking ending is the kid who seemed to be adjusting well enough with the death of his mom after the opening minutes suddenly remembering (because the script says so) that he still hasn't let go of his mom and that "bad things happen." And somehow the kids emotional through line of losing his mother ties in with an alien being held captive and tortured by the government? Because it doesn't.
I wanted to see the coming of age movie about kids making a movie, not the bad alien invasion movie it ended up as.
Is the guy who designed the alien working on Episode 7? I feel like he's going to turn in another one of his Cloverfield rough sketches and get it approved again like he did with Star Trek and Super 8.

It was a decent movie, not bad or good but decent. Good enough for a one time watch.
Child actors are shit, with the expection of the Culkins.
Didn't care.
Great movie for kids/young teens. I thought it was pretty good, too.
Better than average. I did like the alien design, especially the eyes.
Main villain was a complete letdown and the morality story was muddled at best.

Great performances from the young ones. Meh film. JJ's worst.
