Holy crap Wii U had the worst performance this gen for a full year and not in decline. No I'm not counting MS's hardware I thought PS3 2007 would have been worse after the nice weeks in December.

Hmm, I wonder if Vita will be up or down YoY this year.

Did GungHo expect PazuDora Z: Puzzle & Dragons Z to become a million seller? I feel like this game came out of nowhere and became a big success.

I'd be surprised if they didn't, there was a lot of marketing behind it, shit is EVERYWHERE even (especially?) now, a couple of weeks after launch.

Well considering it's the 3DS version for the biggest mobile game in Japan, I imagine they were expecting a fair bit.

This will encourage more remakes instead of sequels. I'm not sure which is worse.

Get ready for FF7, FF8, and FF9 on iOS in any case.

So where do people expect GungHo to go from here on 3DS? I would have to imagine they're now interested in putting more games on 3DS and I don't mean just more Puzzles & Dragons.

Good numbers all round. Zelda did well, sold through its shipment.

Wii U dropped a bit, which is sad, but still has a decent number. Nice boost for the Vita.

Super Mario 3D World is showing decent legs, too, on par with NSMBU and Wii Party U's sales and they are bundles.

Maybe, maybe not. Just because an enormous title does well doesn't mean they will put much of anything else on the system.

There is also the individual release of FF X and X-2 on VITA. X sold 22k while we don't have any number for X-2 but it is likely below 10k.

Well, you'd think if a 3DS game does uber well, they'd follow up with more games on 3DS. :P

Also, do we know if a developer worked on this or was this done 100% by GungHo themselves? You;d think at least an external dev would help out.

Man, Wii U did pretty good considering its absolutely abysmal software drought in Japan. There were only 30 retail games released for it over the entire year - most of which were Western developed multi-platform releases. What a shocking first year. Here's hoping 2014 picks up.

Overall I think the Wii U had a better than expected December.

It wasn't astronomical, but it showed they still have a lot of power during the holiday season, even at their worst.

That said, given we're at 70K already, I'm not overly optimistic about their odds between now and at least Mario Kart.

I remain curious to see what kind of actions they will take, presumably with the first being announced (or at least hinted at) in January given the upcoming fiscal call.

Even if we ignore the standalone Vita copies of FFX and FFX-2, it seems it beat out Lightning Returns.

Famitsu:
LR: 301,181
FFX/X-2 Combo Packs: 317,283

It's sort of disappointing to see that the 3ds didn't sell more hardware considering that this year is argueably the best one the system has had. You'd expect higher numbers with games like Pokemon, MH4, and Zelda to move some hardware. Great year for the Vita all things considered. Hope the Wii U keeps selling.

So, the remaster did well, right? Now we can ask SE for FFXII Zodiac jod system HD remaster so we can get it in 2015.

If we just ignore those DS games, Japan has great taste in Zelda games ^_^

I recently went to my friends house to check out his wii. I was generally impressed. It was larger than I expected though.

Still weird that Final Fantasy IV for DS was considered disappointing for them.

To note you're mixing Media Create and Famitsu here.

LR is a bit higher in Famitsu, but still lower than FFX/X-2.
