I mean, think about it, friends. From the high prices, to the need of luxurios broadband and stable connections to play XBL, to the standard wireless controllers which turn on your console. The amazing interfaces and mindblowing games. Sure, to some, it's a chunk of change, but compared to the "Wal-Mart" of gaming (Sony) where good deals can be found through the loads of riff-raff the MS brand of consoles (XBOX & X360) are positively high class, highbrow gaming experiences.

Friend invites sent in a split-second instead of picking up a landline and asking your PS2 owner friend to unplug his AOL connection to wire up his PS2 dialup.

Whaddya' think?

From what you are saying, I gather that PS3 will launch at $199, and that PSP price tomorrow will drop to $99

Sounds fair?

But seriously, what I'm trying to say, is - most people are worried that PS3 could be too pricey for it's own good, and that in comparision to it, Xbox 360 will look like a pocket change console, not the other way around.

The Xbox and the Xbox 360 would be the Nordstroms of gaming if Microsoft took back your console and replaced it for free regardless of how long you've owned it.

Playstation consoles are the Kmart of gaming.

Nintendo consoles are the Goodwill - sometimes you find something cool, but the vast majority of content is revolting.

If Nordstroms has a lot of empty shelves and a bunch of pissed off consumers that can't buy thier goods ... then yes, that is a good analogy.

The 360 still going to sell 5 million by Jan 1st, gauranteed Lonestar?

Prices are lower than previous gen(in most parts of the world)
COD2 and DOA4 lag like bitches, good connection or not
Tard pack doesn't have wireless
Games are pretty standard. Some are very good but there is no real change from current gen(okay, Live Arcade games are awesome;))
The Walmart aspect has it's advantages. Less high standards can result in more original games(less cost, less to lose, more originality). Devs also have to abide to many standards, which can take valuable devtime from other aspects of the game.

To summarise: High brow to an extend at the expense of diversity.

Nordstroms is a high end department store chain that came from Seattle. They're famous for taking back shoes and replacing them, regardless of how long you've owned them and how trashed they are.

Would it be really ironic that I'm currently typing this out of the old Nordstrom's corporate headquarters building?

MS and sony both produce expensive hardware.

Nintendo makes everything as cheap as possible they wait with technologies untill it becomes dirty cheap and they can make a huge profit out of it: wireless controllers, touch screens , color lcd screens etc.

MS has a great subscription service while sony has a very bad online support.
Nintendo is doing great with the Wifi connection , Free but a bit to limited.

The ranking would be like this

MS < the most expensive high class hard/software
Sony < expensive hard/software
Nintendo < Cheap stuff , its a miracle that Nintendo hardware is very durable.

Nordstrom is known for their impeccable customer service, generous exchange/return policy and wide selection.

I'd call the 360 the Best Buy of systems, it's trying SO HARD to be cool but it's actually just there to sell you accessories, subscriptions to optional services and warrantees.

XBox is another console. A different console, but another console. 360 is just new and shiny.

I don't know what you're talking about, but I wouldn't call the Xbox experience "high brow" at all.

MS created a great console so everyone could kick back and join the community. That's pretty much it.

So does that make PS2 == Fry's? Larger range of products, better bargains, but doesn't even try in the service department?

DOA4 only lags on a good connection if the other person playing has a bad connection...

though in 3-4 player tag it lags even with 4 people with good connections...

Exactly, I wanted to go to Nordy's the other day but it was undershipped so I had to go to the rack. I thought the selection was horrible and all the good clothes could be found in other dept. stores. Occassionally it would freeze and I was stuck paying 12 bucks a month to pay to other customers. That's a fair analogy.

There are shortages then there's the xbox 360 launch. We're in February and a 360 on a shelf is a rare sight.

Considering that the xbox lasted three years, shortages lasting three months cannot be overlooked. It's what, almost 1/10 of the product life cycle?

It seems like this article was written before christmas. We're 1 1/2 months into the new year. I don't recall the ps2 being the dificult to find at the same time. Also how many ps2's were shipped versus xbox 360? Im not saying there wasn't a shortage cause clearly there was a ps2 shortage, but i dont think it was as bad as the 360.

Sony shipped just over a million to NA between the end of October and the beginning of 2001. From the hardware thread it seems like Microsoft is around 850-900,000 by the end of Jan.

edit: I don't really get the Fry's analogy, as a store's customer service isn't the same as a console's online play scheme.

That might have worked if you could send the XBOX back to MS and have it fixed for free. You know like you can with Sony. You lose.
