It's a shame, because a lot of interesting games on the DS are bombing while the non-game fad is doing so well. Why spend the money on an interesting concept like Contact when you can just make some "appeal to everyone" non-game. I said it once before, you guys on cheering on the JP equivalent of The Sims and it's expansions. Tell me honestly, which would you prefer? Games like Contact and Secret of Mana selling well or what's happening now? If you would prefer the 1st, then why are you cheering on BT? or it doesn't matter as long as it's Nintendo?

Brain Training is not taking away sales from those games at all

Contact and Secret of Mana = Same old shit in new clothing, that real gamers got tired of

Brain Training = Sold to mon, dad, grandpa, grandma, and non-gaming girls.

Don't hate on Brain Training just because Nintendo knows how to make a profit off non-gamers

I must say that Marheaven RPG looks quite interesting, i wish we'd get those kind of games over here for the DS :(.
Appart from Tao's Adventure, Lost Magic and Contact , we aren't getting any other underground japanese games.

The story of the Ds software picture is actually that of software people expecting to do poorly selling well. Tamagotchi, Brain Training, Nintendogs come to mind.

That said, I wouldn't classify games like Seiken Densetsu (which will bow at at a decent 200+k) Contact or Xenosaga not doing big numbers as bombs or 'disappointments'. As Seiken Densetsu will both finish their sales run well about the DS avg 3rd party sales of 66k units and well above the PSP average of 55k units and Xenosaga too might break those averages.

Certainly, here on GAF, certain genres and games get more attention than others. The Dracula (Castlevania) games, niche otaku software like Xenosaga also come into play. Both have their fanbase, and the fanbase wll be served quite well by the DS releases both they were never very big in Japan. Perhaps they have a larger audience overseas.

Alright, I'm done. FFXII lost, Animal Crossing won. I'm not even gonna bother waiting another week since I somehow find it unlikely FFXII will jump up and sell 400k units next week. This proved that more people in Japan would like to live in their own little towns than play another FF, which I've concluded is probably the right choice after playing through FFXII. Maybe if it was the best game ever I'd want to cheer it on past 2 million, but the point of the matter is even though I really like FFXII and FF, I think FF selling that many units is just as sickening as Animal Crossing and other games when games that are just as good like Devil Summoner sell a mere 70k in comparison. If the world went as I wished, I'd steal a milliion of FFXII's sales away and hand them to the good guys fighting the little fight under the 100k mark.

But anyhow, bet lost so I'm outta here for a month. I'll go see if flying around in my GP03 Dendrobium is more fun than arguing about sales. Who knows, maybe it is! If so maybe I'll linger off for a while longer and stick to enjoying games and not arguing about them :)

Look to duckroll for awesome Okami impressions, Blimblim for N3, Jonnyram for Mother3 and probably some wierd guy you never expected for DQ Yangus. I think they all kick ass and have the house covered so I'm good to go.

According to the worldwide software sales thread, X-2 did a little over 2.3 million in Japan. It doesn't seem likely (?) that FFXII is going to crawl over that mark.

It will probably (hopefully) do better than X-2 in Europe and North America, which saw pretty huge dropoffs on X-2 from X (sales were basically cut in half).

It's increadible how some of the baiters, DS detractors, or whatever you want to call them fall on their own swords.

FFXII vs. Animal Crossing is a competition created inside Bepbo's head, and perhaps a handful of fellow DS detractors who thought it was a sure thing to bet against AC just so they can crow about something on these DS dominated sales threads.

They create a kaffufle over their own expectations, fail to understand the market they are talking about (bunching every DS slightly off-beat DS game under the sun as 'non-games' being a good example of this) then when they don't meet their own expectations and are mocked by other posters, pretend to act wounded and indignant.

FFXII is a good game in its own right. Not great, but good. AC is also a very good game. Neither are in competition. Get over it.
