Chibi Robo producer goes solo, working on LOL DS!!!
#1
Kenichi Nishi, the producer of Chibi Robo, left Skip recently to setup his own company, Route24, and on his blog he announced the name of the game he's working on. LOL DS!
LOL on the Dreamcast was one of my favourite games ever, but it looks like the relationship is in name only. LOL on the DC stood for Lack Of Love, but Nishi notes that LOL also stands for laughing out loud, and he's looking at making a party game that's fun for 4-8 people. I dunno, sometimes the stuff he posts is to be taken with a pinch of salt, and I can't imagine him working on a non-adventure game, but there you go. It sounds like he'll also be working on Rev in the future from his replies to comments. |

Wow I was just having a conversation the other day wondering if this guy had lost his job. I mean after he left his boring ass job at Squaresoft he's made Moon, LOL, and more recently Chibi Robo and Giftpia. But after Giftpia vanished off overseas release charts it looked like his quirky niche game design carrer had come to an end! Looks like he's still alive! (Hey would this be the THIRD company he's been in since leaving Square? Lovedelic, Skip, now Route24?!) Good to see he's still alive.
Edit: Hey wait, if I recall he DID announce on his blog that he was working on a DS game way back when he was STILL at Skip, only to have Skip lately clarify that he was talking out of his ass or something (lol damage control!) because they said there were no plans for a DS game at that time. |

For those wondering, Kenichi Nishi is a crazy guy. He worked on "Field Data" on Chrono Trigger, whatever that means, and then left Squaresoft to form/join (not sure...) Lovedelic. There he directed Moon for the PS1, a quirky anti-RPG where the boy sucked into his TV-game vaguely resembling Dragon Quest must save the world through communication and stop the "hero" from killing all monsters to extinction just to level up. He then directed LOL (Lack of Love) for a DC, another quirky adventure where you were a terraforming robot on an alien planet and it's up to you to decide how to best "adapt" the planet for the colonization of your masters. He then left Lovedelic (or it closed down) and at Skip made Chibi Robo and Giftpia for Nintendo. Then he fell off the face of the Earth only to reappear again now!

Chibi Robo bombed hard here. Under 30k. I don't expect his other stuff to make it. :(

Hm. Well, even if he's still making games for the DS and Revolution, I'm sad to see Nichi leaving Skip. I think they had assembled a really great team there, and it's disappointing to see it ending after only two games (only one of which came to America).
I do hope Nintendo manages to keep him fully on board. The guy's just too talented to let him slip away. |

I wanted Chibi Robo Origins for the DS, but this will do.
![]() Edit: Actually I still want Chibi Robo Origins for the DS as well. Plz Skip! I think the original point-and-click concept that they were for Bandai would work wonderfully on the DS. For those of you who forgot what the game was originally like when Bandai unveiled it in 2003: http://media.cube.ign.com/media/550/550539/vids_13.html http://cubemovies.ign.com/cube/video...o_052303_4.mov Last edited by jj984jj : 04-25-2006 at 09:01 PM. |
