Tales Of Vesperia seems to have some legs

Somehow i'm disappointed by U2 sales, given how much it sold on its First day

So when is Nintendo announcing Tomodachi Collection for the US. I think this game should completely replace Animal Forest. Ultimately, I think it has more appeal to the casual market than a bunch of weirdo animals digging up vegetables.

Good for Love Plus. It's not often you see anything besides a Nintendo title (or MH) increase weekly sales after being out for a little while.

So fucking close. :lol
There drops from last week were almost identical too. Less than a 100 unit difference. At least numbers are slightly more interesting now that the Wii hasn't been slaughtering the competition.

Unfortunately, at this rate, it looks like the Wii is still going to win the year. It would've been nice to see otherwise!

Oh. Also, 360 was the only console to trend upward against last weeks numbers. :lol

The data was posted in last week's thread, yesterday. For the SJ numbers, it sounds like it didn't get a second shipment (at least not yet), limiting sales and forcing up prices on Amazon.

Already commented on the disappointing Strange Journey sales in last week's thread -- well, I guess I should clarify. It's not that the sales themselves are disappointing, as the game basically sold through all available copies. It's the lack of a timely second shipment that's disappointing. I can't imagine how or why this happened, but it really has hurt the game's ability to be sold. I guess the only silver lining here is that I doubt Atlus will see the game's ultimate sales as being indicative of fan disinterest in or discontent over what they did with the game.

Inazuma Eleven 2's sales are incredible, though. I see that Media Create registered a drop for it from last week -- Famitsu's second week sales were lower than MC's, and so were the third week sales, so they registered essentially a 0% drop, but both trackers indicate roughly the same number of copies sold in that two week timespan. Regardless, it's really impressive; the game's a huge success, and it's all the more impressive following on the heels of what Level-5 has managed to do with the Layton franchise.

I said before that I didn't think Ninokuni would hit a million copies, but as time goes on, I'm actually starting to think that it just might do that after all. But at the rate IE2 is selling, I'm wondering if it might shuffle past Akihiro Hino's 800k hopes and beat Ninokuni to a million.

So I decided to look up the last time a new IP RPG hit platinum status, and outside of Kingdom Hearts (which is more like a licensed collaboration than a traditional new IP), the last time was Parasite Eve in 1998... though PE was also based on preexisting works outside of video games. The last time before that was Arc the Lad and Chrono Trigger in 1995. This is a genre which appeals to a segment of the population that's very reliant on what's already established and safe, and we're looking at it in an era in which even most series in that genre are seeing declines from their previous highs. Yet Level-5 might manage to create the first genuinely new million seller in over a decade. Or maybe two. It really is impressive.

I expected PS3 to slip a little more. Is the Japanese market finally turning HD?!!
Let's talk again when the vast majority of systems sold aren't sub-SD.

Why does the 360 always sell about 3000? Never more, never less.
Looks to me like it's done a lot of shuffling between 3K and 9K this year.

How nice is this. The week after I set up that page to auto-parse the Famitsu page into Garaph terms, they go and make big flubs. Like this week's listing for COD4 PS3 says it was ranked #23 last week, so my script says... #23 last week, that's Monster Hunter 3! Looks like the discrepancy begins with what they claim as being #19 last week really being #18 last week. Either that or they retroactively changed something in last week's data and didn't update the page with last week's data. Things get correct eventually, though; what they claim was #25 last week actually was #25 last week.

Oh my, PS3 to beat Wii this year?

It's possible, but I still think its unlikely. Wii did about 450K last December with Animal Crossing. I think its going to do very very well with NSMB Wii.

Is Beatmania IIDX 16 the last "notable" PS2 title?
Or is there some game that will sell 50k+ in a week that I just don't know about?

FFXIII might push it over, no?

It's going to be all about NSMB versus FFXIII.

*disclaimer- I have been wrong about the PS3 for the last 2 months, take my opinion with a grain of salt*

It's possible, but I think its unlikely.

One, FF13 hits the 17th. That gives it about 2 weeks on the 2009 charts. NSMB Wii hits 12/3, virtually the entire month.

Second, and this is really why I think it is unlikely- the Wii is traditionally strong in December leaving aside any killer app or system mover. For perspective, last year Wii did about 415K from Dec. 1st through Dec. 28th. It had 2 weeks over 100K. And this was with a horrible lineup. The biggest game to release that month was Taiko Wii. Animal Crossing was the middle of November. Now, for this year add in NSMB Wii on Dec. 3 and add in a much healthier overall lineup for the month (Tales of Graces, Samurai Warriors 3, Pikachu's Mediocre MiniGame Adventure), and a lower price, and I think we can safely project that Wii will do at least 500K (and I think that is being conservative).

So that means the PS3 would have to to absolutely unprecedented numbers to get higher than the Wii. Remember, the first 2 weeks are pretty empty..last year PS3 did about 30K for the first 2 weeks of Dec. Let's double that, and we have 120K sold leading up to FF13. Now, I think FF13 is going to be huge..but to get above 500K which is what I think it would need to do, hardware sales would have to probably do 200K for the last 2 weeks of the year, which would be 50K higher than any week in PS3 history (which was the PS3 slim launch).

Long story short, given Wii's holiday strength and pretty solid lineup, I think its unlikely.

Sony Japan...better marketing for Uncharted 2 now please. I want people from the far east to experience this awesome game as well so only word of mouth may not be enough. Market the hell outta that baby. :D
