Am I the only one ashamed of the existence of DoA Xtreme 3?

I mean, the appeal is pretty obvious. If you like mostly naked cartoon girls that you can control then you'll like DOAX3.

Well I mean I guess I just don't understand the appeal of ecchi in general TBH. Like is it for people who want to be sort of horny but not really? I don't really understand it.

DOAX: "I'm softcore entertainment".

This discussion: "is this softcore entertainment?"

Why yes, it is the thing that would offend people with a right wing prudism or left wing progressivism. Are we banning it from the earth or what are you asking?

"Don't be immature getting upset at what others like"
"Well this isn't anything new, it's also prevalent elsewhere (other mediums)"
"Don't take it so seriously"

I haven't seen anybody respond to the main assertion - how sexist this game is. Most people are using proxy arguments to maybe suggest that "yeah it's sexist but it doesn't matter because ______", which is an alarming train of thought. Says a lot about our community that this is the most common reaction.

Surprise.

Porn is sexist.

I don't mean to blow your mind or anything.

It's pretty blatant exploitation of fictional women. Porn in all it's forms does this, exploits to satiate the appetite of others. It's fan service, nothing more.

At the end of the day it's their property, they can do whatever they want with it. Just ignore if you don't like it.

Ehhh, what? Going by that reasoning, we could just do whatever the fuck we want with video game characters without respect to gender, race, whatever, of any kind.

And we can. In fact, that's what we already do. Like, shooting them in the face for example, Or slicing them open with swords. Or punching them to death. All pretty popular gamegenres in which we do things that we wouldn't to a real person, because they're videogame characters.

MUnited83

For you.
Everyone should be ashamed at that rooster. Game doesn't even include MIla ffs

Clearly you never heard of Senran Kagura.

Eh, Senran Kagura has a actual plot, with actual character development and good writing. The characters in SK have a lot of more depth than any of the characters in Xtreme 3.

Yea, I don't understand the appeal, but I don't understand the appeal of a lot of sexual fetishes.

What would you have people do? Would you have the government ban everything that offends you? People know what this game is and are capable of choosing whether or not to consume it. No one should be able to choose for them.

I feel the urge of hitting his devs on their faces and yell at them "what the hell do you think you are doing?"

Personally I'd be more ashamed of wanting to physically strike someone over something like a video game.

Theres a great deal of games I personally dont enjoy or have no interest in, but id never want to take any of them away from someone that does because thats spiteful

OK, I'll respond. I don't think this game is sexist at all. I fail to see how making something for titillation is in anyway demeaning or harmful to anyone. Also, saying "we should know better" is another way of saying "I'm right and you're ignorant for not agreeing with me."

Females in bikini's doing things! The outrage! *rolls eyes* Enjoy it for what it is or don't. Choice is a beautiful thing no?

It's about as sexist as every other piece of porn made exclusively for men. Unless you want to argue that that shouldn't exist I'm not sure what else there is to say.

Really hoping they make a version with men at one point, so that we can have that arguement die (the one you're quoting) unless we feel bad about having man junk dangle too (which will and should happen) ... I'm an equal opportunist.

It's not that big of a deal and anyone who wants to ignore it can easily ignore it, especially if you live outside of Japan.

There are movies, books, and this thing called the internet where every conceivable genre or interest, whether it personally interests (or offends) you or not, is available for your pleasure (or not).

I know right. Darn Japanese and their ecchi stuff.

Thank god we have the western media that knows whats up with sports and tasteful treatment of Women.

Hint: if you can't accept that sex is a part of life, and that even if it's not for you, titillating games/ videos/ photos are legit and can even be an art form, I'm not sure who is immature here.
Note that, no, I'm not saying that DOAX is an art masterpiece btw, though some might hehe

I would absolutely be in favor of that. There should be porn for everybody

I've honestly yet to see anything from DOAX3 that is more sexist than anything in God of War.

In fact, I'd argue that the God of War games are more sexist than any of the DOAX games as it doesn't advertise itself as a softcore porn game.

I'm not ashamed cause i'm not gonna play or even check online stuff about that kind of game, instead i was ashamed with MGSV, a great game which, as a lover of that saga, i enjoyed a lot, but i remember a few times when my friends and parents payed me a visit seeing Quiet doing whatever she was doing in the helicopter, that made me really ashamed of "our" media.
When instead it's about a game which is only focused on "boobs" then it's fine to me, i mean we have those kind of contents in movies, books and every other media too, a cinema lover isn't ashamed cause there are porno or poor comedy movies too

Why not? Sure, it might not be fit for sale and therefore not be carried by storefronts or distribution platforms, but artists should be allowed to make any content they want with fictional characters.

Whether I personally like it or not is irrelevant, really.

Is sexual objectification problematic when the sole purpose of that game is titillation? Is every piece of porn societally problematic?

I think it depends. Good question. In the case of pornography, for example, there is a serious cultural problem with addiction and of course those who are addicted to pornography are going to have their understanding of sexual experiences problematically colored. I don't know that sex-positive pornography in general is problematic but I think it should generally exist on the fringe of an industry. Some of you have given the example of erotic literature or pornographic films, but those are on the extreme fringe of their respective industries and are not mainstreamed. The reason Feminist Frequency exists for example is that mainstream games have a lot of problematic depictions and messages about women (and minorities, and other groups) that mainstream film and literature have been able to evolve past. You know? But there are also still examples unquestionably in the mainstream that are problematic. It's just that you don't see an equivalent of DOAX3 being released in theaters. I guess the equivalent since IIRC DOAX3 isn't coming overseas would be like if indie theaters were showing Senran Kagura. That would be the best example of how this wouldn't fly or be as mainstream in cinema, comparatively speaking.

Don't really feel shame because I myself don't play it and every type of media has a creepy side to it so it existing doesn't really cause an issue.

Are you also ashamed of most porn, a ton of movies and tv, music, magazines and books? Some people want to play this, let them. It doesn't hurt anyone.

I'm not ashamed about it but actually really surprised that virtual dolls or pixels have such an impact on quite a few people's sexual drive.

That's tame compared to some of the stuff out there.

If a drawn snake-woman can do it, a 3D model of a human is fairly normal.

Porn doesn't discredit movies and TV series, nor does smutty fiction discredit all books and so on.

Get over it.

I would agree with this as far as media in general.

It's a game that broadcasts exactly what it is and doesn't hide anything. I honestly have more problems with games that try to tell legitimate stories and shove fanservice in there (e.g. MGS5)

As far as the game itself, I would agree 120% with this. You know exactly what you're getting with this game, and they've been very honest about that.

I think this game has every right to exist, and there's no need to feel shame about it at all. The only opinion I have about the game personally is that I'm not interested in a game with that level of fanservice. Other people are, which is cool, and more power to them. I think no better or worse of them for their interest in this style of game.

Not every game needs to be made for every person. I thought Onechanbara Z2 Chaos (that has girls in bikinis wielding swords fighting zombies, or at least that's what I got from the trailers) was too much for me, so I didn't buy it, and then I moved on.

The best thing that anyone in the OP's boat can do is not obsess over stuff that's clearly not made for them (and/or not try to make other people feel bad about enjoying it), but instead find and encourage the creation of stuff that they are interested in (usually by buying it and telling your friends about it).

Get over yourself sweetheart. Not everything is created with your delicate sensibilities in mind, and that's okay. The beautiful thing about fiction is that it's easily ignored. No need to feel any shame about a piece of software you have no plans to buy anyway.

I am ashamed that people are ashamed of DoAX.

Yeah pretty much. The devs wanted to create something dumb but appealing to a certain demographic and they succeeded. It's not a game for you, or me for that matter, but it doesn't have to be.

It's a stupid game, surrounded by many other stupid games. It does not represent the media. There is nothing to get angry about. No-one is looking at this as a mainstream release defining the medium and representing it to the outside world. It is not "worthy game", a blockbuster, a genre changer or anything more than it is. Its just a bit of fun... every media has "some fun".

I fully understand that "fun" is not the same as "harmless" but this is not pushing a whole generation of kids into objectifying women. It is an expensive niche for people who know what they are getting and is a damn sight less harmful than other media for it's lack of pervasiveness. If you want to get angry about anything get angry about advertising, etc. You know the people who's job it is to shape people's opinions. Not games.

Getting angry about something trivial as this reeks of intolerance. Getting angry about small things that do not matter is pretty much how every "-ism" came into existence. Just be careful.

Don't get angry, just don't buy it. Job done!

Telling other people not to buy it... well you have no right. Trying to make other people feel embarrassed for liking it... well you have no right. Starting a forum thread to spout your personal version of fire and brimstone about the subject does make you look a little strange :)

The video game industry is big enough allow games like this. You don't like it? Ignore it, but let others who like it enjoy it. Who are you to dictate what others can and cannot like. You say you are embarrassed, but I feel more embarrassed for you OP to allow such miniscule things anger you so much.

It's one of those games that I just...don't look into. No interest in virtual volleyball, let alone the ridiculous way it's presented.

While I don't like the content at all, at least it's being honest I suppose. I can just not buy it, or any other kind of "ecchi" game like Senran Kagura or w/e.

I have more of an issue when it's shoe horned into more serious games Like MGSV and has the gaul to try and explain it through absolutely ridiculous plot points. I have no choice to sit through that shit if I want to play the game.
