MW2's legs are [still] amazing. Most (read: I) seemed to assume that it would start stronger than NSMBW but peter off much more quickly, but it's been out for a really long time and is only now showing only the slightest signs of weakness in some countries. It was consistently #1 or #2 in Denmark (for instance) all year until this week.

repeating the obvious, I know, but it's blowing my mind, even if MW1 tracked in a similar way ... don't sequels to big games more often have higher initial sales and at least slightly weaker legs than their predecessors?

With Bad Company 2 and FF13 out this coming week, I doubt Heavy Rain keeps the Number 1 spot.

Glad to see AvP still hanging in there too!

just came frm HMV at Oxford Street London, and
1)Silent hill is in stock but pathetecally placed. you couldn't even find if you are trying to buy it. The retailers just stuffed back of the back so its hard to spot it let alone to mark it as ''new release''

2) The Wii is stocked and may not move as heavily as before but its moving better than the other 2 consoles. its slow seeason at the moment, and the games are not selling as high as they were. Hence Heavy Rain being No. 1.

and about Heavy rain. the Reatilers are pushing it very very hard. even harder than Uncharted, Killzon 2 and obviously the 2 Motorstorm game which actually surpriesd me.

HMV got the packges everywhere after you get into the shop. gamestation (more than 1 gamestation) got a large banner in thier window saying ''Hevay Rain, the next big title for PS3'' and GAME have actually planted Heavy Rain posters everywhere.

maybe thats the best way to advertise your game. not on TV or Ad walls, but make deals with retailers.

oh, and FF XIII will bevery very big title when it hits. its just everywhere.

Also, i think even SCEE forgot that game existed, let alone it had released. I didn't even know the game was out and i went to plenty game retailers.

and Forza 3 will still sell. biggest game on the 360 after the ME2 in retailers.

We know that Mass Effect 2 (360) sold 90k and 360 + PC versions together were between 90k and 111k (sandwiched between Wii Sports Resort and Wii Fit Plus). Since Heavy Rain beat AvP's second week (down 38%), the absolute minimum for Heavy Rain is:

56k

Anyways it's good to see Heavy Rain doing well. Hopefully there isn't a huge drop off next week and stays in the top 10.

Heavy Rain at number one is a massive surprise. I guess Jack Tretton was not lying about Heavy Rain pre-sales. It also explains why EURO got prefferential treatment for Heavy Rain. Looks like EURO will be Heavy Rains strongest territory.

I think the UK and France will be two of Heavy Rain's best territories, the US will be a much harder sell as it's not your typical game. Well Deserved #1

Anyway, with FF XIII out next week WKC only has this week to gain some sales before being completely overwhelmed. It hasn't started well, a shame as the game is a real charmer.

Wow Drakensang 2 dropped pretty fast from #1 in the pc charts.

And great to see Heavy Rain 2x in the charts, from anectdotal evidence it looks as if it was undershipped in germany.

‘Battlefield: Bad Company 2’ explodes into the All Formats Chart at No1 this week, honouring EA with the accolade of being the fastest selling game of the year so far.

‘Battlefield: Bad Company 2’ has an excellent performance, outselling the launch week of the original ‘Bad Company’ by almost 3 to 1. It also records the best ever launch for any game released this early in the year. 53% of sales went to the Xbox 360 version with 31% for PS3 and 16% for PC, topping each individual chart. Last week’s No1 ‘Heavy Rain’ slips to No4 with sales down 69% and with ‘Aliens Vs Predator’ (-61%) falling one place to No3, ‘Just Dance’ (-15%) finds itself back at No2. Sales of ‘Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing’ (+28%) speed up in their second week, propelling it from No8 to No5, ahead of ‘Wii Fit Plus’ (-5%), which drops 2 places to No6. The usual suspects fill the remaining positions in the Top 10 with ‘Modern Warfare 2’ (-11%) and ‘Wii Sports Resort’ (-15%) both down 2 places to No’s 7 and 8 respectively.

‘FIFA 10’ (-13%) has never been out of the Top 10 since its release and it does not look like it wants this to change, gaining one place this week, up from No10 to No9. ‘New Super Mario Bros. Wii’ (-41%) manages to hold onto a Top 10 finish, despite falling 3 places to No10. The launch of the PC version of ‘Assassin’s Creed II’ (+73%) sees it jump from No31 to No14, while there is a new entry at No23 for Square-Enix’s PC strategy title ‘Supreme Commander 2’.

AvP has been getting some fairly serious sustained TV ad support - great for Rebellion that it's doing so well, but it must be one of Sega's bigger ad campaigns in a while.

Last week's sales for Heavy Rain and AvP all formats must've been really close, since dipping 69% took it below AvP, which dropped 61%.
